  • how many pueo are left in hawaii?Are there any on oahu?I think i saw a white one up Tantalus.

  • @ashesoneeight - a "white" pueo was probably a barn owl! They are mostly white and tan/orange. Very, very pretty. Underside of wings are white and that is what you see at night. Pueo are mostly diurnal, which means they are "day flying" owls. Often seen in Waimea sitting on a fence post during middle of the day.

    There are still very, very, very RARE pueo on Oahu. Somewhat commonly sighted on Maui and fairly well established on Big Island.

  • a pueo lives by my house out in parker ranch land and comes out and hunts at 6pm every night, I'm so glad another short eared owl can enjoy such freedom!

  • me and my friends was camping in one of their back yards(there was 6 guys 4 girls) and we saw one of thoose scary ass birds. i didnt leave the tent that night.
