@Sociocidal Ya, I wasn't sure if the chains would work because at first theymade my wrists sore. After about a month, though, I got used to it. Now my hands and wrists are just really strong. ...like damage resistant.
did you know they have found skeletons from the middle ages of warriors that wore chain mail regular and they all had arthritis when they were 30, i think this is just going to destroy your knees
Do you feel like you still have in on after you take it off, even though you feel lighter? I know i do. i wear mine under my shirt sometimes in the summer to keep me nice and cool.
I'm guilty for being really lazy and not really working but I get what yer sayin because on the rare occasions that I do work out or even move stuff I do feel better, like healthier and less kind of dead I guess.
"When I take this stuff off it fells like there is this huge weight lifted off my shoulders because, you know ...there is!" Can't argue with that logic. By the way, great videos. Just find out about it and spent an entire afternoon getting up to speed. Nice work:)
dear good sir, i admire all of these video's... i too enjoy being uncomfortable, though in the past year i've been more comfortable, but as of late... no more! i find myself falling back into physical discomfort and it's good seeing other uncomfortable people as to know i'm not alone in my discomfort. good job chap! you're now my first youtube comment!
Seriously inspirational video, glad I found it! Next time I feel down about not being able to do enough to get in shape I'll have to load it up and be all RARRRAAAAAR!
Dude I like your theory of comfort, its so true. I used to do carpentry and masonry work when younger. Lots of lifting, hammering, etc. I felt so good. Then I stopped working physically and started feeling so bad and uncomfortable I almost went nuts. I had to start doing sports.
Dude a few years ago I would work to work with weigh round my ankles. I walked akwardly the first 2 or 3 days, then I got used to it. Gotta tell you, I was unbeatable at squash, my legs were so strong I just didn´t get tired... :-))
Watching you, so full of energy and enthusiasm and different and comfortable with that and wow, that's just kinda inspiring to me, Thanks for uploading!
Dude... ever since I watched 'Dragonball Z' as a kid... I always wanted to wear a weighted vest and cuffs around all the time... plus I dig your style... I'm subscribing.
@JMEMantzel Checked your vid and was a good guide, but I turned tail and retreated to ebay. My mail should arrive tomorrow hehe, look forward to trying some of my normal exercise with it on. Cheers for the idea! :D
@JMEMantzel Thats great! The weight vest I have now I can't go any where with it because its too big. Tip you probably already know this since you already have the vest, but its bad to wear weights on your ankle.
There's lots of ways. I can tell you how I did it.
I saved some money... and kept my eye out for cheap land. Bought some land, moved there with a car full of my life and a tent. ....built dome with whatever materials I could find cheap or free.
I totally agree with you about the whole... (what I like to call), 'hardship conditioning'... was brought up on a farm and could work harder than most men at 13.... and I've never been to a 'Lycra Lovelys Preening Parlour' or as they call it 'The Gym' !
That's an awesome video, sir. It's great to meet someone with the courage and independence to have his own philosophy and live it, and see it through. You're an inspiration.
@MetalTala chainmaille is not cheap. The cheapest thing to do is to make it. If you want to buy quality chainmaille that will last you a long time for training purposes (daily use) its gonna run you about 500+ (US) compared to if you make it which only costs about 50-80 for all the materials.
i have two shirts weighing 25lbs and 30 lbs both made from galvanized steel both cost me a total of 60 dollars US to build. my advice is purchase the rings from someone pre-cut like from a website called TheRingLord. you can get stainless steel their for relitilvely cheap prices for a half the work done for you.
I wear chainmail doing yardwork, moving rocks, running, and whenever I can hide it (my work in healthcare not too conducive to showing it) I totally agree on all the advantages and ridiculousness of social conformity, but the world I live in requires a few compromises.
it's a cool lifestyle man and I would do what you do, except that I would go crazy without a girl around. Do you have a wife/girlfriend, if not how do you not go crazy?
depends entirely from person to person. Some people go crazy over getting peanut butter stuck to the roof of their mouthes... its called Arachibutyrophobia. Your problem, tho probably more common, is hardly a good topic for generalization.
So how many times has that chain mail saved your life during robot construction? Inspirational stuff, Jaimie. Words to live by. (No, I'm not gonna start wearing chain mail)
True all that, although i dont believe in striving to be different either but i dont think thats what u were tryin to say :P awesome work on the robot btw, i watched it all in one night ^^ keep up the good work!
Well, I don't think its so much that people don't like your philosophies, cause like, I think most people do. But most of us are the total opposite of your philosophies. So I guess some people would take offence on that basis. I'm a computer programmer and so I'm kinda not horribly strong or anything. But my brain is strong! And I think that is what is the most important to me. But I still think your philosophies are great, and it would be cool if there were more people that think like you
Hey Jamie, big fan of your videos. I'm curious as to what you eat, what normally do u have for freakfast lunch and dinner? and about how many calories per day do you need in order to live like you do? =)
Jaimie likes to eat Cereal ALOT!! Carrots, Popcorn, Spagetti, pepperonis, potatoes & eggs. Those would be the most oftenly eaten things. Calories hmmm, Well, we dont sit around counting them, in fact we don't usually eat things and then look at the calories.
ha ha. Dashaina answered. I probably eat around 5000 calories. up to 10,000 when i really get going, and down to 1500 when I'm in shutdown mode. :-P So.... err... ya.

I make it a point to stand rather than sit if I have the choice, so that when I do sit or lay down, it feels awesome. Plus; it doubles the metabolism, so it's really healthy.
I once didn't sit for a year. :-P I'd lay down to sleep, the pop up and that was it for the day... until i layed down again. My friends thought it was weird when we watched a movie and I'd stand the whole time. :-P
The first time I sat down after that, I got a really bad tummy ache.
actually... I know you're just kmaking a joke and everything ,but... seriously... i'm very low impact. :-) it would take about 100 of me to equal the environmental damage one regular north american makes.
hmmm... you like red faced upsidedown Jaimie???? Well.... I'll see what I can doo. Who knows, maybe the robot will go terribly wrong, and it'll drag me away with my hanging by a foot.
From the perspective of someone living off the grid, like you, most people are silly. And in a way that is true. People are silly, thats why we ruin our planet and eventually turn in it one big desert. OMG nooooooooooooooooooooohh lol
uhh... from the perspective of a guy living off the grid? I grew up in the burbs, went to school in the city, and have lived in many places.... and from every perspective, I thought most people are silly.
that's some good advice allright, I can relate to it all coz I've experienced a lot of those things; but in the end I'm just too lazy to keep up with all that :<
it'd be funny trying to go through an airport terminal, and you have to take off all your chainmail, and the security guard will be all "wtf are you a knight" and you will be all
"yes i am your great great great grandfather and i have traveled forward in time to tell you to do pushups".
I like to wear steel capped shoes and whenever i goto the airport it always reminds me that most people don't (wear steelcaps).

I once didn't sit for a year. :-P I'd lay down to sleep, the pop up and that was it for the day... until i layed down again. My friends thought it was weird when we watched a movie and I'd stand the whole time. :-P
The first time I sat down after that, I got a really bad tummy ache.

Also if people think you're crazy, they won't pick fights with you. So that may be why other than you're in great shape.
But probably because you're in great shape.

I suppose your outlook on life really does work :P
futsalfred2 2 years ago
ha ha. I woulnd't say HUGE... I've been about 30lbs heavier before. Man.... that took too much food, though. ....but I sure could lift a lot!
JMEMantzel 2 years ago
no pain no glory yea..
I would love to live in the woods like you do...but in my line of work i cant do that. Or i have to give up everything hmmm..
kukelz 2 years ago
Did you just create a personal limitation where you have to give something up to get something? Thats just silly
JMEMantzel 2 years ago
Silly is in the eye of the beholder! ;-)
From the perspective of someone living off the grid, like you, most people are silly. And in a way that is true. People are silly, thats why we ruin our planet and eventually turn in it one big desert. OMG nooooooooooooooooooooohh lol
kukelz 2 years ago
uhh... from the perspective of a guy living off the grid? I grew up in the burbs, went to school in the city, and have lived in many places.... and from every perspective, I thought most people are silly.

Jaimie - the Robot Guru!

it'd be funny trying to go through an airport terminal, and you have to take off all your chainmail, and the security guard will be all "wtf are you a knight" and you will be all
"yes i am your great great great grandfather and i have traveled forward in time to tell you to do pushups".
I like to wear steel capped shoes and whenever i goto the airport it always reminds me that most people don't (wear steelcaps).
roidroid 2 years ago
ohoh, maybe you could just tell the security guard them you had an accident and had all your ribs replaced with titanium ribs.
