after owning two prophecies i've really come around at my old age to get a z1. this is a real synth with real dynamics in sound. thats why its so ugly looking, korg didnt give a shit about making it pretty, just about the sound it could make.
The obvious strength is that the Z1 has more voices :)
And the Z1 has additional synthesis algorithms.
The Z1 has a similar sound structure as te Prophecy but it sounds "colder", more hi-def and cleaner, the filters are different and the envelopes behave differently.
I would never own one synth, but this is one to have. As far as Ice cold sounding...that's not a bad thing, who ever said warm and fat was the be all end all. You need both. By the way it's got a build in eq and it will blow the shit out of speakers.
Cool demo. Kudos. I've wanted a Z1 since they first came out. It's insane how little they go for these days. I've seen a couple go for less than a prophecy. Mad. Don't expect it to last for ever though. Shame it looks like a transformers codpiece.
Picked this one up because of these demos. Let's just say Jexus is a very good salesman; I can't come remotely close to these patches (though i haven't played much with multisets yet).
It's my favorite synth to simply play these days. So many controllers and options for expression. I feel more effective patching on the Modular G2, but i think it's mostly because the FX section on the Z1 is painfully limited. As it is i run it through my R3(!) for final effects.
@javiceres I wouldn't really. But none of them are warm, i can tell you that. The R3 is fun to futz about with but not very flexible. Great FX section however. The G2 is a wonderful lab and great sound processor but also sounds dry and hard. Z1 sounds absolutely ice cold if you don't put in the time to make it sound warm. Which takes effort, believe me. It's a physical modelling synth so the analog waveforms are there but not the focus. UI is great but limited knobs = sadface.
Great sounds, really cool vid. I also love the intro to the vid. I dont know if you've thought about it but you should make sample packs from what you do. I would love to use some of these snippits in my tunes. 6 *'s

Am I correct in saying that this keboard is the same as a Polyphonic prophecy? What are its weaknesses to the prophecy and what are the strengths?

Best is to have both, of course.

@albedoshader Thnks for the comparison. I found a z1 on craigs list for $600. I think I'll get it... and I love your videos.

@KaslarProductions: If I had 700 Euros I would buy a Z1 myself without hesitation. But till I got the money my Prophecy and 01/W have to suffice :D
Believe me, you make me jealous, lucky you!

Plese, Would you recomend this synth over a R3 or an alesisi micron/akai miniak regarding sound quality??
Thanks!

Should I get a Yamaha AN1X for 300€ or a Korg Trinity V3 for 475€ ????
javiceres 1 year ago
@javiceres given that the The Trinity has 1 MOSS engine (half power than the Z1) but is also a workstation...

This synth is awesome. I own one and sincerely you can create whatever you like. Very nice video cuts and performance Jexus. Kudos !

Its truly one of the coolest synths around...so deep and vast are the possiblities.
AwakeAudio 3 years ago
Agreed. Deep, thick, fat. Very experimental ! Some people argue this synth is Korg's masterpiece. True that in a way.
mophoty 2 years ago
Yeah I have to agree - Ill never part with mine. I also have an Alesis Andromeda and they complement eachother so well...

on an ass-kicking pace, you are.
thanks in part to you i've been seriously GASing for a z1.
I MISS MY FUCKING PROPHECY!!! D:<
2 questions:
-is the arp better to program than the prophecy or the same? (besides the poly)
patch at 3:30-3:35 is all-time classic
-how long does it take to program vs. prophecy... just a little faster or much faster?? ...can't be slower....
thanks for the demo kind sir
