This song is one of her more technical songs anyway.
The only song mariah doesn't like that she has ever made is "i don't wanna cry" because she thinks it has no real message but i think its because it has personal meaning to her why she doesn't like to sing it. she just choses to sing her best known songs and she has so many that there are many more famous ones than ones like this.

She never closed her mouth, all she did was close her mouth slightly and not all the way so her note would be more controlled and not so powerful. And to explain the moving of the mic, she doesn't move it all that much away from her mouth during the performance and she could have more microphones on her body. Usually singers have more than one so if one fails, the song could still be heard.
Mariah changed so much I almost forgot how extremely attractive she used to be. I think her career highlight was Music Box. After Fantasy and Daydream she lost it.

she is singing live.. her voice is so strong that putting it close to the mic would make the output go everywhere.. this is to sustain the quality of the sound and not make it seem like she's shouting.. why don't you try to watch power belters sing.. like Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera and others.. they have to move the mic farther when hitting high notes.. and before you say anything nasty about how someone sings.. make sure you are far more better and recognizable than them!

You are not reading me correct! If you move a mic to the left, right, top, bottom of your mouth, there will be a definite change in output! If you close your mouth and the sound remains the same, there is something very ventriliquist about you and I don't think even Mariah and handle such a talent. I have never said that she is not a great singer - she's the best! But that doesn't mean she's saving the world or that she's totally honest about everything that she does - wake up America!

She's not singing live! She's moving the mic all around and there's no change in volume at all - not possible! Right at the end she takes the mic away and closes her mouth, not reverb is that clear and long. She's rerecorded a different version and mimed over it. WATCH IT AGAIN!

She never closed her mouth, all she did was close her mouth slightly and not all the way so her note would be more controlled and not so powerful. And to explain the moving of the mic, she doesn't move it all that much away from her mouth during the performance and she could have more microphones on her body. Usually singers have more than one so if one fails, the song could still be heard.
