@MyDormantSoul Almost every hip-hop producer samples genius! I agree that producers shouldn't just snatch a loop and put a beat over it (Puffy) but good producers use samples from multiple songs on one track or sample creatively using an MPC/sampler to REALLY make the track unique.

To say fuck sampling just shows you know nothing about the roots of hip-hop or real beat making.

@Bouchon211 No, to say fuck sampling is to say fuck sampling. Hip hop is stagnant right now because they keep sampling jazz and soul and think theyre original. Hip hop can be so many new things, it doesn't have to be one more fucking 70s record after another. Dont insult me by saying I know nothing about the roots of hip-hop, I was raised on hip-hop.

@MyDormantSoul As was I, and old Premo and Pete Rock beats are still my favorite and derived from that formula. I don't even listen to the shit that comes out these days but the only guy in the mainstream who heavily samples soul and funk is 9th Wonder and Kanye. Who even cares what they are sampling if you sample CREATIVELY then the source become something totally new. Basically you shouldn't be trashing this dude as it was done creatively.

@Bouchon211 I had that viewpoint for a long time but then I began to think that all electronic music is basically sampling, when I use a dm or a keyboard someone programmed the sounds in there and theyve probably been used anyway but maybe thats just me. But your point is not totally lost on me trust, and guys who just take a loop or massive chunks and pay for sample clearance are definitely wack. Whereas a guy like Madlib I couldn't identify 75% of his samples even from songs I know.
