Bellissimo! Lo avevo in VHS. Me lo aveva prestato un mio carissimo amico direttore (ora, purtroppo scomparso) Domenico Cieri, e mi aveva affascinato per la tenerezza espressa da tutti e per la incomparabile bravura di Bernstein!
To even hear Lenny think his music won't just go on forever...he was our composer, our artist, our conductor, our "it"...he was all that...and yet more. He left us too frick'n soon and to watch him in action conducting Candide or West Side Story or anything he composed...but it was his moments of just glory between him on the podium and his artists..first violins, singers, actors...it didn't matter...he loved all of them that brought his music to life...he is an amazing miracle that we all miss.
Carreras is not terrible...it's just that he is not suited for playing tony, the jet from the streets. he has an operatic voice and is not in my opinion meant for this.
well, actually, bernstein wrote the lead vocal parts for operatic voice. that's why they have such large ranges, and that's why he chose to use opera singers in his recording!
What a disappointment. Forgive me: nothing substantial. A waste of money to by this Korean? DVD - obviously a copy af the german TV's broadcast, but in a slightly lesser quality than my 20 years old tape.
Yesterday afternoon I made a playlist over MY West Side Story studio takes. I can't wait to see what differences there will be, because my videos together make up all, what was sent on the german TV. Now We shall see, what they have excluded.
thanks for this, its only a shame that it couldnt be watched in proper order as olfux confused us with a number then a number followed by a letter, and sometimes two letters, we didnt know which one to look at first, its was all a little too messy. whatever happened to simple 1 2 3...? thanks for posting anyway.
But notice: The piece' different sections were'nt taped in the right order, but not put in order until the takings were ended!
The reason for MY numbering is, that when I had posted 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8, I thought that this was it. But then I was requested to post the minutes of the takings, that I had skipped in between these numbers - hence this odd numbering! :o) olfux
@amjhutton actually the name of it is not Tonight, The 2nd song in this specific video is called " Balcony Scene " ... " Tonight " is later on in the actual show ( earlier in this recording session )
Thank you for posting, I always wanted to see this recording!! Officer Krupky!

I never get tired of the songs from Westside story! They`re all so wonderfully witty, and the music is just wonderful.
