  • @chong9489 if you cant find dashi you can substitute with soup stock or bouillon powder. its not 100% same taste but it works :)

  • @mushnoodle Ohhh (: Thank you (: i will go find it again !

  • @chong9489

Hmm its best to order it from her website or from other websites if you have no asian supermarkets around you.

  • @UDavidT Thank you,i am asian so I have asian supermarkets here (: however,it's is hard to find bonito dashi ,that's why. Haha, thanks for your advice ! (:

  • i so love this channel:)

  • 揚げ出し豆腐って思ってた以上に簡単なんだ(・∀・)今度是非作ってみますo(^o^)o

  • ありがとうございました!

I used to eat this in some Japanese restaurants in Brazil when I was a kid and I've missed it so much!

I prepared this recipe and it came out exactly as I remember from the restaurants!

  • 茶碗蒸し大好きです。嫌いな人を見たことないですね。外国人にも人気があるのかな?

  • @fundoshi 外国でも茶碗蒸しはとても人気なんですよ!

  • what is bonito dashi? i love the dog by the way.hahaha

  • @TheMusicInMe94

Bonito Dashi ia Japanese Fish Stock. It's very common in cooking Japanese food :)

  • I still don't understand the existence of that dog though...

  • @HIFATS he's the one who is supposed to be talking. XD

  • what i love about this is that she's teaching us to make great food, but she's also making dinner for her and the camera man!

  • why doesnt the dog eat the food?..

  • what happened to the ginkgo seeds..

  • @DerpPurple They where placed in the cup 2:57

  • Came out very smooth and silky soft. Love it! Yum!

  • how much water? I like this receipe that makes a small portion.

  • my favourite food of ALL TIME! chawannnnmusssshhhiiiiiimmmmmmmm!!~

  • if i would like to substitute the granulated dashi with liquid dashi how much would that be? thanks!

  • Japanese sushi restaurant is always have Chawanmushi.

  • then dog sneezes, guy pretends to sneeze as well

  • okey, let's prepare a woman who cook japanese food for you, first.

  • make sure you steam low or your egg will look bubbly like mine. I used spinach and mushrooms only and worked out well. YUM!

  • i thought this was cooking dog o.o

  • kamaboko is so nasty :|

  • @poptya

    why is that?

  • @junkievideo Mostly because I'm not a seafood fan, and it's essentially the most fishy tasting thing on earth.

  • @poptya

but they looks soo pretty.. :(

  • @junkievideo Try runnyrunny999's version; it's more tailored to a Western palate, and doesn't use bonito dashi (which is what would provide the fishy taste you dislike)

  • @TheSeraph74

    thank you! :)

  • well if the the hard-to-find ingredients are usually just additional, so you can still make it even though you don't use them :|

  • I dont even think most of those ingredient are legal in my country xD

  • why is the dog there it doesn't do anything!!!

  • @zacksfunnystuff The dog is working, he's the narrator o.O

  • I made chawanmushi on cooking mama! hehe

  • wish you can cook for me :(

  • Wow - I think this recipe is actually doable even for a beginner cook like me! Can't wait to try it this weekend...

  • what kind of dashi do i use??? chicken, fish, or shrimp???

  • @CuppccaakeCrazy I think bonito dashi is with fish :)

  • Looks delicious! The dog is so cute and well behaved!

  • has francis ever falled from his chair??? too cute!!

  • I LOVE francis' gimme gimme dance at the end!

  • this has got to be the most interesting dish on this show!

  • @DJMattMann no shit sherlock

  • @MrTommyfifaking154 stop takling to yorself

  • I always enjoy the ending.

  • troubled eskimo that seemed like a masculine > 1:40 epic

  • now i realize why i like to watch at ur recipes, you play classical music in background, awsome

  • What is the point ??? Who care how he pronounces ???? He is teaching a recipe of his country !!! Peoples that are critizing speak a better Japanese ????? I doubt !!

  • USUKUTUKOOTITY soy sauce O.o

  • She's so adorable <3 @ the end. "Gomen," xD

  • haha, chopin as a backround. :P

    nice video

  • Could the lady and the dog come cook for me and my family?

  • hello. is it ok if i dont put sake in the ingredient?

  • @ellynnnorasyieda I used vodka and it works. different though.

  • Hehe, when I saw Custard Dish, I assumed this would be some sort of dessert. Now I kind of want custard, but I dont know what to have it with >.< It's a bit sickly all by itself, but I dont have any cake or pie ready.

I like this show, but dont know if I'd like this particular dish ;) Not a fan of eggy things, normally, although I do like marinated soft boiled egg in my homemade Ramen and Chanko.

  • rape me HAHA !

  • @onlymelonthe totally agree with you

  • I really love cooking with dog, but runnyrunny999's videos are far more simple and the ingredients are actually foundable (?) in my country...

  • @onlymelanthe runny has no dog, and no bad fake french accent...

  • @onlymelanthe These ingredients arent that hard to find. you just need to know your languages names for it and/or alternatives. And find the stores that sell them..

  • @onlymelanthe the difference between them is cookingwithdog shows you the more tradition japanese way of cooking, while runnyrunny999 shows you how to cook in an easy way

  • @onlymelanthe I like this channel because they have the cute dog that can speak English lol ...

  • @onlymelanthe Oh yursh,oh so true :DDDDD

btw the word you were looking for was "findable" :3

  • that knife makes clean cuts ;O

  • Would anyone know if you can replace the things you get in japan with thhings in the U.S?

  • @GeekUndercoversBFF check out runnyrunny999 he made it to with western items.

  • NOW I KNOW what those yellow round things are! Never would've guessed they're ginkgo seeds tho!

  • i love the way he says usukuchi soy sauce..=)

  • momma?

  • he sounds like this: "cookinga witha doga " lolol

  • @MrTommyfifaking154 I'm sorry but this comment had me LOL'ing (?) so hard XD I fell on the floor.

  • @MrTommyfifaking154 Wonder what your Japanese sounds like.

  • @WGFood ahahahaahaha lol

  • @MrTommyfifaking154 No he doesn't... His pronunciation is perfect which is more than can be said for your Japanese I'm sure.

  • @MagikGimp ... Yes he does. Un-bunch your panties. You dont have to prove your multi-cultural tolerance by getting butt-hurt over any little comment you think you can get away with acting offended by on behalf of people you dont know.

Yes, the announcer's english is no doubt better than tommy's japanese, but that doesnt change the fact that he speaks with a very thick japanese accent that makes it sound like he's saying "Cooking wid dog-a." There's REAL racism out there if you're looking for it

  • @Etimos You know, I think he'd be offended if someone told him after however many years he bothered to learn English well that he still speaks like one of those J-pop kids who use English just because it's fashionable, don't you? I'll happily laugh at some floppy haired teen idol who's only famous for his floppy hair any day but not at someone who doesn't deserve it.

  • @MagikGimp Anyway, for a dog, it's incredibly impressive. ;)

  • @MagikGimp Yes, for a dog I am very, very impressed, and given the shape of a dogs mouth, I'm surprised he can speak at all. He truly is an accomplished canine.

  • @MrTommyfifaking154 he sounds like: cooking with a doggu

  • @MrTommyfifaking154

no, he sounds like "kuggin wisu dogu" he pronouns it in a japanese way

  • @MrTommyfifaking154 Hahaha that's just how Japanese speak English. Because their letter don't end with consonant (except n).

  • Chawanmushi is one of my favorite dish. I don't have a steamer but I want to make this myself someday. :)

  • OMG I swear I love this channel

  • I don't understand why the dislikes, chawanmushi is delicious and an impressive dish to serve up. Are 13 people fanatical vegans who think eggs = murder?

  • i wonder if it would be alright to not use the sake......

  • @jujube150 Yeah it should be. You can use vinegar instead of that and add some sugar, since sake is a bit sweeter.

  • I'm not trying to be a smart ass in any way but at 1:43 is there a certain reason for not just cutting all the way through it?

  • @bobbarker369 good question, probably because the shitake are too soft to be cut safely or because too much pressure isn't good for the shrooms? other than that no idea.

  • 13 people don't like dogs as hosts... XD

  • 13 people dont have any eggs...

  • @norman201 LOL...

  • that lady is so clumbsy at the end of her videos haha

  • @bsik72 You're also pretty 'clumbsy' with your English >_>

Why don't you make your own show if you could even think to criticize a women who went out of her way to cook these dishes for you? Honestly...

  • @thecharlotteness It was clumsy in an endearing kind of way. Hardly criticism.

  • ur accent is so funny! HAHHAH great video :]

  • where to find 1/2 tsp Granulated Bonito Dashi

    1/2 tsp Sake

1/2 tsp Usukuchi Soy Sauce (saltier and lighter in color than koikuchi)?

I live in singapore :) thanks!

  • @maisiechew you can probably purchase online if you cannot find at your local store.

    Japan-center may ship to you.

  • @maisiechew IMM Daiso for the Dashi and any large NTUC outlets or Cold Storage have Sake and Usukuchi Soy Sauce

  • @maisiechew i'm singaporean too! XD... anyway, i think u can buy bonito flakes and make the dashi urself at Tampinese Giant... altho it's expensive. lets see... for soy sauce, i think u can find it at Giant. and the sake can be replaced by chinese rice wine since there's not much difference(if any).. XD... so, what i'm saying is all the ingredients can be bought at Tampinese Giant Megastore

  • @kokishundo Omg thanks ! idk where to buy those things -.-'' im singaporean too ^^

  • @applelicious1314 haha, it's just tht i go there quite alot, so i take a look at what is available, in case i wanna cook.

  • the chawanmushi looks very tastyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • So many food in it. I eat at normal japanese restaurant , they give just crab meat , mushroom and little noodles in it.

  • 素晴らしいシェフ

    @,@!

  • Thansk for posting.. I really like your video... had made it many times. DELICIOUS

  • Tried it. LOVED IT! XD

  • @Kuromiix33 its instant dashi you get from a store

  • i was in debate about this dish but i just made it about 30 seconds ago and its amazing. The texture of the egg is out of this world! its a very light dish yet full of flavour.

Note to anyone who tries this, make sure you steam it really low heat. mine was too high and the egg started to bubble (finish product didnt look too pretty), when its low you'll get a smooth, neat finish (like on the video)

aah he does say reduce heat to EXTREAM LOW... i obviously over looked that part lol

  • thank you for posting this. I haven't had chawamushi in years, and its even more delicious than I remember.

  • I looove chawan-mushi! I will have to get some little dishes and try to make it myself. Thank you for the recipe!

  • @guyslade Tapioca balls!!! =] nummy num num...

  • @PockyRyu Incorrect. They're ginko nuts.

  • @guyslade

Those were ginko seeds. They come from ginko trees, but only the female ones.

  • thks so much !

  • i wish i can go buy the ingredients right now :D

  • @80smusicfanNO1, well, a man like you should be travelling in exciting places like Haiti or Ethiopia....

  • Hey Francis, why is your right eye swelling?

On earth, what did it happen between you and your master?

    -

    ちょっと フランシスさん、なぜ右目が腫れているのですか?

    一体、主人と何が あったのですか?

  • yum....looks good..im going to try it now

  • Congratulations on your show, the host is so cute (I like how he follows all the action :-))

Chawanmushi was a charade to me, thanks for clarifying it. The direction of the movie also helps, and it's very effective, but I think it would be much better if it was entirely in japanese, with english subtitles.

    Anyways, congratulations! Cheers!

  • 茶碗蒸し chawan-mushi is my fave!!! LOve this show! this lady never fails to make me hungry and motivate me to cook by myself :) Thank you

  • I tried this Chawanmushi recipe last night and it turned out perfectly! Thank you very much for sharing. I love all Cooking With Dog videos!

  • 3:21 francis dog ur hair! XD

  • Sometimes I eat a similar dish, but it's not quite as complicated as the one in this video. You get some eggs and mix them up. Then you can add whatever you like, shrimp, onions, soy sauce, etc. Then, you steam it in a plate and eat it.

  • this dish is amazing

  • We just made Chawanmushi and it was delicious. Thank you Francis Dog! :)

  • I followed this and made it for 6 people as an appetizer. they all loved it. Thank you for sharing Japanese cooking with the world and taking the time to translate it as well

  • it's not a soup, it's actually solid,

it's probably just a side dish, or it could be a good desert too.

  • it's not a soup! it's a side dish that is mainly enjoyed with other side dishes with rice.

  • franices your mouth dosent move...lol great vids

  • i'm gonna try to make this one day, it looks very good, my family is kinda picky when it comes to eggs and how they are cooked, but maybe I can make them like this.

  • frances you have pink bows! <3

  • Poor Francis

  • @preppygurl428

Go to a specialty or gourmet store. You also have plenty of online gourmet and ethnic stores online that sell everything they use is these videos
