  • Wich OS do you usally use??

  • @MeAndLinux

    ArchLinux Always

  • I hate how the programs are below the top of the bar at the top on gnome. how to fix that?

  • Hah you got a speeding ticket

  • I have been Googling everywhere, how do you install "smooth-tasks" for KDE in arch?

  • @nvanadium

hhmmm I am in Mint atm... I will have to look into it when I boot into arch... (if i remember, Lol)

    ANYBODY ELSE CARE TO ANSWER?

    is it not in AUR?

  • @Linux4UnMe Yup. It's in the AUR

  • Is this still in the testing repo, or is it the regular repos now?

  • @russjr08

    nar regular repos now

  • Can you do a guide on installing Arch? including audio codecs and a gui? :)

  • @stev1212

    already done /watch?v=KU1JO5801CY

as for codecs there is a wiki on it ;)

  • "pay speeding fine" xD

  • @wo7ke

    ;)

  • @invnd1987

    yep same :)

  • Installed Gnome 3 today, only to discover that - surprise, surprise! - it doesn't work well with Catalyst 11.4. I won't move to Radeon, so I decided to remove gnome-shell and leave Gnome 3 in fallback mode in case KDE 4 breaks down and I need to repair it. So Gnome 3 is effectively unusable for me now. Same story as with KDE 4.0. Will they ever learn not to release an unfinished product?

  • @Reloaded211

Gnome really need to implement 2d compatibility into gnome-shell like what is being done

with Unity. I've tried unity in 2d and it works. But for now.... I couldn't care much for either project in their current state

  • which software do you use for recording this video? thanks

  • @zrl1986

ffmpeg in the command line. I have a tutorial here

    watch?v=0zkbAjOtW6E

  • but Chakra is qt based,I wont to know if it possible with arch alone ? and one more doubt: is arch linux KDE/Gnome any lighter than the other distro's?

  • @pyarchist

I thought your question originally was if you can run more stable packages instead of bleeding

edge packages..... ? I still don't get what it is exactly you are asking me..... As for your next question You can install a minimal Kde base, and a minimal Gnome base "without gnome-extra"

  • @Linux4UnMe sorry for the ambiguity.

yeah you are right, the first part of the question was if I can run only stable packages on archlinux because I am given to understand that Archlinux is for those who want to be in the bleeding edge.

the second part : ignore it , I blabbered something :P

  • do you like kde more?

  • @Benc1213

    Yerp

  • hey, is it possible to run stable builds on archlinux?

  • @pyarchist

    sure.... that's what CHAKRA do

  • fuse should be in modules not daemons

  • @tomatobros

Crap... I didn't realise my mistake as I don't watch my own videos much.... Thanx for pointing out my error... will fix with an annotation.

  • @Linux4UnMe

Nope u doing great keep it up :) i love ur videos

  • @tomatobros

    cheers man :)

  • @tomatobros

    fixed

  • Why remove KDE at all?

  • @TheRanblingjohnny

    personal preference

  • Something to discuss:

May i suggest you to start the DE's with inittab method and multiple grub entries?

Not that much of a difference i just think it's a better way. (use @ prefix before gdm so it runs in backround also)

    "Display_Manager" section at archwiki

  • How install Gnome 3 to Ubuntu 10.10?

  • @dzeussy

    there is a PPA

  • Wow, I love your KDE desktop, mine sucks...

You can do a "How to customize your desktop" It would be good.

  • OMG, why would you do this??

  • @waynefoutz

    lol. for fun

  • hey could you provide a remastyrs to download? So I can try arch... or does that defeat the purpose...???

  • @Justgoodvids

    defeats the purpose :)

  • @Worfox1

lol. I don't like to mix

  • Nice..... good luck with it

  • @SeanHosie54

I ended up putting 2 arch installations on 2 hard drives.... 1 with kde 1 with gnome. :)

  • can u do a review of this after using it for abit ?

  • @drumitar

yer will do in a week or so of heavy use

  • As previous comments mentioned, you can add Gnome 3, without uninstalling KDE. Should be an option to change user sessions, so you will have a choice of KDE and Gnome. You could have installed Arch in VirtualBox, and put in a Gnome 3 DE. Just incase it did not go to plan.

  • @kiwicanuck1973

I know. But I don't like mixing Gnome and Kde on the same installation for various reasons. and bah to virtualbox. on the metal mateyyyyyyyyy :)

  • Gnome 3 sucks so bad it hurts.

  • @swathepocalypse If you don't like it, don't use it.

  • @BrandurJustinussen Don't worry, I don't.

  • @swathepocalypse

    lol. i hear ya

  • im not a KDE fan i feel like its trying to copy windows im more a Gnome fan which makes u feel like ur still using linux

  • @ElshamyWalid

Kde copy Windows shell? are you serious? Have you read what Kde consists of? Windows Shell is nowhere near as complex as what has Gone into Kde..... Win Vista shell has copied some Kde technologies and definately Osx

  • Don't understand why you wanted to remove KDE. Gnome and KDE can co-exist.

  • @eldersprig

because I don't like Mixing Desktop Environments on 1 installation. It messes certain things up

  • how did you record Gnome 3? ffmpeg?

  • Cool Video - Thanks

  • Why did you installed gnome-shell I know you hate it :P, just gnome and gnome-extra will do.

  • @scorici

because I want to use it for a week or two before I do any sort of indepth review of it

  • Don't forget to pay your speeding fine ;)

  • @MeBeBonkers

    lol yeah :)
