Callixtinus, eres la ostia. Siento decir un taco, pero es tan díficil encontrar música de este tipo y con tanta variedad y calidad que solo te puedo decir: GRACIAS.
This is just so beautiful...words fail me. I don't need to care about God or any sort of organized religion (I'm a total atheist) or historical context to perceive the absolutely indescribable beauty of this. I sort of wish there were a stylistic movement among contemporary composers to something more like this, or something that at least incorporates similar techniques...
@DevilsInstrument impossible as the very point of this style of music is the worship of a transcendant and mysterious God. without those principles it would be empty and rather meaningless.
@Winaska Why? It is music and I can appreciate it exactly the same way I appreciate other music. I don't need to find some sort of 'higher meaning' to do this. Has the possibility of abstract art crossed your mind?
@DevilsInstrument abstract art is horrifying. If i have to look at a blob of whatever to tell me something that a clear and detailed painting would then id rather have the painting. Chant isnt abstract in any way shape or form, the words are usually from Holy Scripture directly or are clearly written to reflect it. any secular style chant would be pointless because the very style of music itself is part and parcel with the liturgy of the Christian Church.
@Winaska I cannot understand the words and so they have no meaning to me; even if I did understand them, I suspect I would find little to care about. I listen to this piece on a purely musical level and like it very much. I did not mean abstract in the sense of modern abstract visual art, but in the sense that it does not have to narrate something specific to me. If you cannot grasp the concept of listening to a piece of music for music only, as I do, then we have nothing further to say.
@DevilsInstrument Usually it is the case that if you understand what is included in the prayers, you will realise what motivated the medieval friars and monks to sing in such a beautiful way. All of this was done purely out of their service and life to God. I am not sure but this graduale sounds like a part of the Tridentine Mass which is sung when the epistle is read and the celebrant goes to read the gospel. Understanding the context of it makes it more interesting and helps us understand it.
god i wish i could have bin a noble crusader, not in this world, were hardly any noble people life, people that defend those that can't protect themselves. i want the knight templars to come back, ps i'm not an american! so you know
Italy is: Roman Empire and top of the world, country where God put his Church, Point of light in the medieval era, Reinassance: art genius (leonardo, michelangelo ecc.) and many other things... NOT MAFIA, PIZZA OR SPAGHETTI...ignorant people say this..
