Actually, there is a lot of Migrant workers in Ontario, from the Niagra Region wineries to the Tomato farms in Southern Ontario, and other vegetable and fruit farms and orchards in the Province. I don't have exact numbers at the moment, but if I remember right in 2005 it was over 10k. Some of them spend up to 30 years of their life there. I met with some of the migrant worker outreach organizers when at U of T and when working with UNITE HERE!

@buknoy0903 Nope. Feces and other organic material are processed into stable humic substances by microorganisms and fungus to become fertilizer. Then nutrients from humus are absorbed by plants. If you attribute feces to plants because of the natural process of nutrient absorption involved, then the same can be said of your pigs because they are part of that cycle (being omnivores). Next time, try to make intelligent comments, okay? I hope I'm not reaching for the stars here.

I don't have to think of the pig as anything other than a pig, you are being abstract to think of it as anything other than that. The reality is, it's a pig. Of course I feel sorry for the pig, it's suffering was pretty minimal compared to a factory farm / slaughter house. If there was a more humane way to kill it, it would be nice. But in the end, death is what it is. I think concealing things is more about buying meat at the supermarket and not thinking. I am willing to slaughter my food.

Yes, we developed as predators, and evolution has given us incisors, but our ingenuity as humans has helped us go beyond a meat diet. That's our next step in evolution which is to compassionately survive. It is a beautiful thing that is growing inside of us all. We're similar yet different from other animals in the sense that we have this ability to see a different way of living, living a life of harmony with all creatures and with no impositions. I was a vegan before. It's nice to be one again.

However, throwing empathy and ethical issues overboard is a dangerous route to go. People put incredible love and attention into theire pets, so turning emotions of selectively when eating animals who are identical is the same selective function that made consentration camps possible during ww2. We need to nurture empathy, not break it down, because it's not isolated to this.

Actually, there is a lot of Migrant workers in Ontario, from the Niagra Region wineries to the Tomato farms in Southern Ontario, and other vegetable and fruit farms and orchards in the Province. I don't have exact numbers at the moment, but if I remember right in 2005 it was over 10k. Some of them spend up to 30 years of their life there. I met with some of the migrant worker outreach organizers when at U of T and when working with UNITE HERE!
