  • What an amazing woman! Beauty and talent is a gift! It never goes out of style! This is a beautiful tribute to the amazing Ms Baker!

  • Love Josephine, and really like your tribute and choice of music!

  • Everything about her is just so beautiful... not only her looks but her personality, and she's amazingly talented. I didn't know anything about her until I did a research project on her for school. I really admire everything she did, including her efforts for Civil Rights in America and during WWII.

  • @jemXero I'm so glad you were able to learn about such an extraordinary woman that lived before your time.

  • The first two singers are terrific! Real Music! Who are the last singers, Replace

them with the real stuff. Good Nite Josephine.M.

  • Lindo!! Beautyful!!!! Shocking!!

  • what r the songs in this video i cant find them

  • Attention! Black female video "dancers" of today, this is what real dancing looks like!

  • I didn't know about this woman until I read a short bio of Frida Kahlo where Josephine Baker was rumored to have been her lover, and like Ms. Kahlo, a bisexual.

  • @lilsweetmami18 That's kind of unlikely considering Josephine Baker lived most of her life in France not Mexico! I don't even think she ever went to Mexico...not sure though...

  • A wonderful tribute to one of the great beauties of this world. At least the French recognized her talent...............thank you so much for posting this.

  • I will be a major representing Krewe of Illusions for 2012 Mardi Gras in Lake Charles LA, taking ideas from her most spectacular costumes and building what we call a "backpiece" - filled with tulle, feathers, rhinestones, etc. Wish me well...

  • Thank you... thank you.. thank you... this is a beautiful tribute to my She-ro!

  • This tribute is beautiful and Josephine was a beautiful spirit. Its too bad that her movies are in French so that Americans can come to appreciate her more. I was a fan, now I am a fanatic..LOL

  • anyone knows the first song?

  • This was my absolute favorite clip of Mrs. Baker! She was truely one beautiful woman. She looks like someone took her from this era n threw her n that one!

  • She is a french entertainer not an American one. America rejected her...France embraced her.

  • @JadedJassy21 Just think if America accepted her. But it was there lost.

  • This tribute is soo absolutely wonderful, and the music is just great I didn't know she was this talented or as funny and fun lovin as she seems, thanks for posting this I'll treasure this one... Leo

  • SwahiliFilms asante sana for this beautiful tribute. She sure was one of a kind. I love you, thank you Josephine.

  • la dernière "reine de paris" ,magnifique!

  • Im sorry but she had more personality and beauty than alot of the 1920's film stars.I dont like silent movies unless its comedy.she could be beautiful and ridiculous.Problem wasnt baby wasnt white.france only loved her

  • @HERBLANDZ What a songstress. Problem was she wasn't white in the US however, France appreciated great talent.

  • @empressofthefrench thats what i meant she wasnt white and her love for white men would have ruind her in the U.S cause it didnt do dorothy dandridge any good

  • @HERBLANDZ Yes, DD was a beautiful woman, even married a white man but still discriminated against.

  • I HAD NO IDEA this Woman was in sooo many MOVIES & SHOES!

  • SHE WAS THE HOTTEST & PRETTIEST THING (when she wasn't making faces) AROUND!! LOVELY JOSEPHINE.

  • These are very lovely clips of her.

  • The finest, the bravest, the truest, the real-est african-american spirit of all.

Muse of all modern black artists, whether they realize it or not.

    My idol.

Josephine, eternal foutue bete, always the brilliant savage.

  • wow, she influenced so many of today's celebs!

  • It appears that James Brown and Michael Jackson got their dance steps from Madam Josephine Baker.

  • Keri Hilson!!! Awesome connection! =)

  • She is the most beautiful creature on screen ever! She looks more native american than black though.

  • too bad she was almost white

  • @MrPolobally say what?

  • @MrPolobally I completely disagree.

  • @MrPolobally aagain say what you wanna know the truth about Josephine Baker Complex ?

  • Beautiful!

  • Thank you for this awesome tribute....She was definitely ahead of her time. I shed a tear when I think of how this generation will know how great she was. And how she opened the door for so many. Whenever I think of Josephine Baker I am inspired..This was absolutely wonderful to watch.

  • OMG!! If this ain't the coolest, smoovest, beautiful-est thang ...

  • Thank you SwahilliFilms for posting this video.

  • Très bel hommage. Bravo.

  • Amazing beautiful black woman :) She opened the doors for so many talented African Americans. I love this woman with all my heart. R.I.P. Josephine Baker

  • I love this. I wish film (in general) were this creative and inspirational on a regular basis.

  • 1:01 - Gorgeous.

  • She oozes class. They just don't make them like her anymore :/

  • Great with kids at 3:46. She's not acting here.

  • 5:36 she looks like corinne bailey rae ddid she have any kids? shes amazing!

  • @bottomvibe Why too bad she had to go to Paris and to do her thing? Her destiny is so terrible. In US she suffered the racism and Paris offered to her the glory.A big star in France. Her thing what ever they called it is her legacy to the world.Paris respect her as goddess of new age.She invented love and respect.Josephine is a mega icon.Prefer her voice in background. So lovely voice.

  • beautiful tribute! thank you...

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Just finished watching the movie about her. I definitely had a misconception about her. She is so awesome and beautiful!

  • very pretty....melanie fiona looks so much like her

  • Does anyone tell me y did she pick France and not an other country instead???just curious to know...thanks

  • this is very creepy....why did she always bulge her eyes out like that? *shivers*

  • @Avalita07 Josephine performed mainly on stages. She did a lot of exaggerated moves so that those in the back of the theaters could see her. This was also her style. This was the way she stood out. Josephine Baker was not only a great performer but she was also a major civil rights activist not only in the US but in France too. She extended her services and risked her life to help the French fight against the Nazi Regime. Even going as far as housing refugees and being a spy for France.

  • is it meee, or does she look like Mya? with that said...i would hate to live back then. having to act like a caricature all the tyme just to make "others" comfortable.

  • This is great.

  • Thanks. I did repost to my facebook group Remembering the Decades (TV, Music, Fashion, and Fads). It's an absolutely beautiful tribute. Come join me and post sometime.

  • Josephine trancended the bias's of her time, no one knows the formula nor do they who have it, some people just are able to not be affected by race or gender and the slings and arrows hurled at them just don't dig deep. josephines talent clmbs above all those typical opinions and the gift if there, and even years later is still seen for all its quality and unique talents. Josephine "is" dance, as babe ruth" is" Baseball ..2nd place is far behind.....

  • Superb!

  • terriblement belle et émouvante...

  • This is beautiful! I was just in Paris this spring, and I had the opportunity to go to Josephine's chateau in Sarlat. It was amazing! She was truly fascinating! I am awed by her life. This is one of the best composites I've ever seen, and the music is perfect! Corrine Bailey Rae is a favorite of mine. Thanks for posting!

  • Its great that she became famous an all but I'm embarrassed that she did. She looks like a fool when she is dancing an her make up makes her look lighter than she really is, I am so disgusted!

  • @Daddiesftcarrotbiter , I know some of the faces she made, and some of the dances she did, may seem a little silly by today's standards, but that's what made her stand out. None of the actresses of the day would have dared to present themselves as anything but calm and cool. Josephine let it all hang out! Literally. Lol! And you are correct. The makeup did make her lighter, but it made all actors much lighter in that era. That's just what they did back then.

  • @Daddiesftcarrotbiter You know how tough it was to make it as a Black entertainer (and a woman at that) back then? Blacks' best bet at becoming famous and making money was to make other races (particularly Whites) laugh and try not to look "too black" in the process. Do your research. She was just playing the cards that she was dealt, "fool."

  • @serrribral I think people nowadays make it more of a race issue than it was back then. She had a record audience in France and I think her success has got a lot to do with the fact that she appealed to men and they found her attractive. Pretty much all dancing of the time look "stupid" now, it´s got nothing to do with color.

  • Its great that she became famous an all but I'm embarrassed that she did. She looks like a fool when she is dancing an her make up makes her look lighter than she really is, I am so disgusted!

  • This was one of the best tributes to Josie That I have seen.. I loveeeeee her so much. Thank you fot posting this :)

  • thank God for posting the dances. the greatest dancer ever. there are many wonderful dancers. but heart and soul like that is from God. she adopted 12 children no wonder God blessed her to dance like that.

  • Beautiful!!! Thank you<3

I personally would have prefered that the sound track was Josephine's songs!!! or at least one.... Her voice is the best backing for her own images......

  • God, how I love Josephine baker! Absolutely amazing!

  • I can't believe she got turned down at the beginning of her career to be in a chorus for SHUFFLE ALONG....because she was too dark and too skinny----and being skinny is a staple in entertainment now

  • Oh, she was light years ahead of her time.

Too bad she had to go to Paris to do her thing.

Looks like Michael Jackson stole a move or two.

Looks like she invented the moon walk ... I'm just saying, it looks like it is all ....

    GREAT BACKGROUND MUSIC ....

  • @bottomvibe Michael didn't invent the moonwalk to begin with. Even he admitted that. lol. He just popularized it.

  • @neecee401100 yesss, i agree with u..a lot of great dancers stole a few moves from Charlie Chaplin...

  • @bottomvibe I dont see it.

  • What an amazing tribute to an amazing woman... I'm so impressed with what she created

  • Music by:

    Nancy Wilson - Day Dream

Corinne Bailey Rae - Like A Star

Nina Simone - Aint Got No

  • @SwahilliFilms Day Dream got me going back in time woo wee wow I feel the roaring 20s

  • I don't know who is singing in the beginning but Corrine Bailey Rae sings second then last is nina simone

  • The first voice we heard was either Çassandra Wilson or Nancy Wilson. Then came Corrinne

  • I believe that's Corrine Baily Rae singin that song... I love it. Can't remember the name of it though...

  • starting at 410,who is singing?, and in the beginning

  • who is this singing in the background?

  • wonderful... thank-you...

    such talent ,truly amazing,

  • Wow. Who is singing? I hear Nancy Wilson, a little Billie Holiday in the phrasing. Perfect accompanists too.

  • that was sooo good - i love her - she was such a charismatic beotch

  • well done mate!

  • There's a young woman entertaining today who has this similar spirit. Her name is Mel B, one of the Spice Girls. These (2) ladies spread joy which many entertainers today do not. Thank you for this wonderful post SwahiliFilms

  • sublime..... manifique!!!!!

  • Congratulations! This tribute has been made with love, some great song choices, and lovely editing. I wish Josephine had been able to make more movies, but you have cleverly made the most of the few that she did. The best bit for me is the final montage. Dazzling and wonderful. Well done. Thank you.

  • She looks just like Melanie Fiona.. She messed up by wearing that pale makeup but I know it was part her character and there you always see, some White man in a famous Black woman's face.. Ugh!

  • best tribute

  • this is the best tribute to josephine baker ive seen on here. shes one my idols. and seeing clips from her first film was an added treat for me. this tribute made me love her even more. good job!

  • MARAVILHOSO!!!

    THANKS A LOT BRO!

  • 2:31, I've always had that mental image or something close to it, of how it be when I have children. I truly love this woman. She's a true heroine.
