Its a print. So basically he carved that image into a wood block or linoleum. Then he make any number of prints with it. Look up relief printmaking, or linocut prints.

@mcgabegraff its usually pretty standard paper... you can use whatever you find. usually the lighter and thinner the better so it doesn't fall off the wall. and the paint is print making ink. You'll see he uses a bryer and a linoblock (?) which are standard printmaking stuff. helps make mass things easier without using digital methods.
