It's hard to be away from family when someone dies. At the start of 2007, my aunt died of cancer. However, the job I had, my first job, did not allow bereavement days to it's employees should their aunt or uncle die. Thus, I was unable to go home for the funeral. It was my favorite job, and I got fired from the job about a week later. It was very rough.

It is good you got to see your grandfather before he passed.

Thank god the people she works for are nice and not only did they not care that she wasn't able to work, they wrote her a $150 check to help pay for the trip. The amount of kindness(and at the same time cruelty in your case since they don't allow you to go to A FUNERAL) of people amazes me sometimes.

I understand what you feel about your grandpa but I would never feel relieved. The last time I saw my grandma was in a nursing home and she didn't even know I was there. She just kind of stared of into space. That's the last memory ever with my grandma.

What I want to say about my experiences with dying relatives (a grandpa and uncle both from Cancer) cant be described in under 500 characters, so im just going to say this. Right now you will be feeling absolutlely crap, but remember, you have to celebrate his life and not mourne his death. As bad as you may feel right now YOU WILL GET OVER IT, everybody does and then you can truely see that his death isn't a bad thing (well it is bad but it wont be as bad as you think)
