ok, so u have video card problem, take teh kebrd off, u will se a chip saying ati- point ur hairdryer on it n it will melt the chip back on properly. look up t40 fix
there are actually two versions (maybe more?) of the t40. i notice you have whats called the UK version, where your keyboard looks different than mine (U.S.). im replacing my keyboard and almost bought the UK one by mistake. it would be cool but im not sure its compatible with mine. i wonder how many other versions there are....a japanese one would look cool and no one would mess with your laptop lol. be fun figuring it out.
I have this same one but I have a problem, I log in and everything and my screen glitches up when I move it, So when I use it, I have to keep it strait on the floor, I have a Toshiba with Windows Vista now but I need my other one to run applications, ( Missing Comdlg32.ocx )
Can anyone help? Should I just buy a new one?
Something is wrong at the bottom of the laptop, It's not the screen, Something on the inside is broken, If anyone can help, Thanks.
That is a common problem with many Thinkpads. The connector that goes from the screen to the motherboard might be loose. Find a repair manual (you should be able to find one in PDF form if you Google around) open up the laptop and make sure the connector is plugged in tight.
i think that there is another problem with his laptop.
Toshiba's like to overheat, i could use my sisters toshiba laptop to bake bread and to make pancakes it really gets that hot.
Well, because of this, some of the soldered pins on his graphics adapter may have desoldered from the motherboard so reflowing the motherboard with hot bursts of air may help with his problem.
I own this laptop running PCLinuxOS Great machine but the battery doesnt last long enough but it is an easy fix. overall a great notebook with great potential.

-Temporary solution may be constantly pressing at the top and the bottom of the laptop to hold the GPU in place so that laptop or screen won't freeze.
-Replacing the motherboard will most probably solve this problem.
-plugging all of the connectors to motherboard may help
-buying new laptop will help
-reflowing the laptop may help

Really? I thought it lasted like 5.5 Hours with the 6 cell battery, and 7.5 hours with the 8 cell battery>

I have the factory battery (Whatever it is) and it last for like 45 min tops. An hour if it just stays on the desktop.

Oh, well then your battery is failing. Get a new one. There like $60-100 i think
