The whole PETA thing can best be described as mindless IMO. Maybe they just wanted to ride the wave of publicity Nintendo created with Super Mario 3D Land, or maybe they really are crazy. I don't know what's going on in their redundant heads, but you can't say that about a video game (key word GAME) that obviously isn't meant to be taken seriously.
