  • I noticed in this video even though its a little old, you said you detangle your hair normally a couple of days after you have washed and conditioned. How long have you done your detangling this way? An have you noticed if it's easy to detangle and possibly less knots when you do it this way? And are you currently still detangling after wash days? And you detangle on dry hair with shea butter or castor oil right?

  • @nappology1

I no longer wait a couple days & now do so the next day at the latest post wash & I typically do so using Shea Butter. I avoid more tangling that results from wet hair coiling back on itself by dry detangling & yes it is easier for me this way & I have less knots.

  • you have given me hope i was about to be a bald head again. Seal my hope have you had short hair all you life even as a kid up untill you started using these products or has you hair reached you shoulders before

  • @regalicity

I had shoulder length as a child & as far as products & my current length is concerned, I think that protective styles contributed more so to the length I retain.

  • Your hair is like wool....Just like mine. :)

  • how did you trim your hair when it was short? i don't know how to trim and i don't want to go to a hairdresser. i want to do it myself.

  • @elinheartstristin

I trimmed loose hair in sections by grasping hairstrands between my index finger & middle finger & clipping off the ends straight across. When it got long enough for two strand twists, I trimmed the ends off of my twists - I tried to trim off the same amount all around.

  • Owww! Get Down! Awesome fricking video.

  • do you wash your hair in the braids?

  • @msandrea2u

    yes

  • Lovely Hair! but i have 1 question:

If you blowdried your hair over the years would it cause less shrinkage?

  • @Capriwinterfly7

I think it would temporarily lessen shrinkage , unless you were to blow dry frequently on high heat causing your hair to be heat trained, therefore reducing shrinkage drastically. HTH.

  • i'd love to see u wear ur hair curly all over! but u know that it can cause tangles...i'm just happy to see a type 4 person who isn't heat trained (not that anything is wrong with that) but i makes me feel good to see a person with texture like me

  • Why is shrinkage important to know?

  • how long have you been natural? beautiful hair

  • @temickab

    In this video, 5 years.

  • Your hair length is amazing.

  • i know this isnt relevant but you look like you have a west african background. anyways you have lovely hair.

  • @peacerok well thats because a wide majority of blacks in america as well as the carribian islands around america come from west africa. from tribes such as the igbo, mandika, fulani, ashanti, and yoruba.

there may be other tribes, but these are the only ones of my awareness that we come from.

ANYWAYS, I LOVE YOUR HAIR SERA

  • @arab3515 Thanks: )

  • OMG how'd do you get your hair that long mann...

  • u should do a henna treatment...

  • You hair is amazing: so healthy and loooong! You´re such an inspiration :)

  • wow - this is real thick hair - my texture i think....

what i want to know is as it grew - how did you keep the ends moisturised - was it just coconut oil? or did you use other products? i would love to transition - but failed twice when hair broke off - it was just too dry just couldnt cope! pls let me know what products if any you used to stop breakage...

  • @winiver77

Shea butter has helped me with sealing in & retaining moisture. As far as breakage is concerned, finding the cause of breakage helps more so than a products I've tried in the past that are geared towards stopping breakage. Also, keeping on top of moisturizing your hair helps significantly in reducing & preventing breakage. HTH

  • beautiful woman, beautiful hair. xxx

  • beautiful woman, beautiful hair. xxx

  • wooooow.. I never saw so much shrinkage! So springy! So awesome :)

  • wow, i love love love your hair. its looks just like my texture. i've been natural for 2 years and my hair just seems to stay at the same length - I'm fed up but i'll keep going. i love natural hair and yours is inspiration to me.

  • ur hair is like whoa.........inspirational!

  • wow.. couldn't believe how long your hair becomes when you pull it. thats kinda sad, because it already is sooo long, but won't show it

  • lol@ya shirt stayin dry

  • how are you with split ends. Do you struggle with it? HOw do you manage it? I trim do treatments, moisturize. I trimed but one side of my hair got it worst then the other and I ended up triming one side and 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch shorter then the other side. Oh boy lol!. Just wanted your advice.

  • From time to time I do get split ends, especially during summer & mainly in the front section. All I do is trim them off; wishing there was a miracle product out there that permanently mends split ends so we can all have one less factor to deal with during our hair journey - wouldn't that be something =)

  • @mishsamuels I don't know how it works, but Dr. Miracle's Spot Treatment is supposed to help with preventing split ends. Maybe you could try it? I haven't had any thus far, but I'm making sure to keep my hair moisturized and, on top of that, protected with oil- especially my ends.

  • wow @ 50% shrinkage! We 4B's got it bad. I am transitioning now, and I remember when I would look at girls with less shrinkage and comparing our stretches and I was like WOW their hair grows so much faster than mine. I thought I was only growing 1 inch every 6 months while I saw girls showing off their 3 inches of new growth..and then I flat ironed my hair and I saw that I had 3 inches of growth too! Shrinkage is real!!!!

  • Totally agree with you...shrinkage is somethingelse! ;)

  • and there is nothing wrong with that...4b rocks...lol

  • Your hair is beautiful. Have you ever tried Black Earth Products? They are natural products for natural hair. I think you will really love the conditioner and shampoo. The price is reasonable too. The products are made by a black woman in Atlanta, Taliah Waajid

  • No, not yet, but I have heard about this line from a fellow youtuber; however, I haven't heard too much about them (positive or otherwise). I will look into them a little more though.

Thanks for the suggestion & the compliment! :-)

  • Is you hair 4a? because that's what it looks like. But besides that, I LOVE you hair so much..makes me want to go natural right now lol

  • :) I do have some 4a, but they have loosened a bit with more length...I am predominantly 4b though, I don't have a consistent coil pattern for the most part....

  • Oh my goodness girl your hair is my inspiration! For real. LOL I have been going natural for almost a year now. I wanted to know is this the longest your hair has every been? Do you have history of fast growing hair? And What products do you use. I know you use the Cream of Nature and Ion but is that it? I'm sure you use oils too. But what else you think you used that caused your hair to grow healthy and fast? I will be looking forward to your reply. (^^)

  • WoW your hair is beautiful,,, I must subscribe.... You r my inspiration!!!

  • I've always wondered, I understand when washing your hair in braid that by sqeezing you get the girt out, but with conditioning.. dont you need to slide it down the hair shaft? If it's twisted together like this does the conditioner get to the strands effectively? Just a question.

  • Hi there...to effectively condition my hair I take down each braided section, apply conditioner & then rebraid & leave conditioner in for about 10 minutes then rinse each section out thouroughly. If am using a thick conditioner or doing protein conditionin then I take the braid down one at a time & rinse each section, rebraid & then do a quick final rinsing. Hope this clears up any confusing of this braided wash method that I do.

  • Yes it does. So the entire hair is being covered. Thanks for the explanation.

  • Beautiful length! It is possible!

  • wow..your hair is an inspiration..thanks for the videos

  • you're hair is my hair's IDOL right now LOL

  • My my! How many years of growth is that, if you dont mind me asking?

  • 5 yrs.

  • OMG x 2 ! I get these too! I thought I was the only person on the planet who got these little knots. I don't know what to do.

  • I cannot believe this is only 5 years of growth. Beautiful:) Do you know how fast your hair grows? Do you take any supplements?

  • You seem like such a sweet person. Your hair is beautiful.

  • Thank you! :)

  • Thank you for posting your videos. Your hair texture and shrinkage remind me of my own. Definitely subscribing!

  • sweet lol i have 4 more years to go then hahah, im excited to see my hair be that long even with shrinkage, i would rock a wash and go all week, shoot

  • Your hair is amazing. Do you use any type of protein treatments like Aphogee or egg/mayo treatments. If so, how often?

  • My hair doesn't handle protein treatment all that well (gets extremely crunchy & dry even after I deep condition it), but I try to do them whenever, I feel my hair needs it...so it varies.

  • gurl your hair is beautiful

  • Do you get knots in individual strands???? Like... tiny little knots that occur when a single hair loops onto itself and pull through? I have to cut my hair at the knot point when it does that (just one hair at a time). Do you get these? If so, what do you do to combat them?

  • OMG!!! I get those too!!! I was trying to figure out how to combat them also!! :-) What is your hair type??

  • i looooooove your hair!!!!

  • OMG your like my hair Twin, i can't believe it!...i can't wait to have that length.

  • Even though I've seen this video before, I'm still in awe when you demonstrate the shrinkage versus the true length. Kudos to you for being so successful in nurturing your hair. I try to keep this in mind when I feel the urge to be less patient with my own hair.

  • Sera, do you ever wash and go, or is that just asking for trouble? If you do, is it easier or harder to handle now than when you had shorter hair?

  • I never was a fan of wash n' gos because my hair would shrink so much that detangling would be a pain.

So basically, I would say for me its just asking for trouble especially with my current length.

  • Your hair is gorgeous (sp?)!!

  • Thanks (spelling is ok)!

  • I have never clicked that yellow button on the right so quickly...lol..Your hair is amazing...you are one of my inspirations now!...I love natural 4a/4b hair!

  • LOL, thanks!!

  • That is beautiful!!!

  • Thanks

  • Sera, your hair is sooooo long and gorgeous. i am subscribing right now! Also, I was perusing your fotki...love your hair accessories.

  • Thanks

  • wow great hair! have you thought of getting it cut into a style, maybe layers?

  • ...not really...am trying to get rid of the layers I currently have although they are not that noticeable anymore................

  • I see you are a HATER...why the hell would she cut her hair? You probably dont' have no damn hair yourself, that's why you are talking about cutting it. Go suck one, you little green eyed monster.

  • I wash in braids & condition.

  • where the heck did you get your CON shampoo? isnt that formula discontinued? Thats what i always use but im running out =(

  • ...a local black beauty supply store, they had them on sale too, but each customer could only get 2 at a time so I only bought two.

I thought they were just changing over to a new packaging & not discontinuing - guess I should have asked the owner of the store....

    Hopefully they didn't discontinue them....

  • wow. ur hair soo beautiful. when u went natural 5 years ago did u start off while ur hair was realy short or had a little length to it? do u have any pictures?

  • Oops, i meant, it grows 2 inches longer per year in the BACK, than in the front.

Your hair is super gorgeous (as are you). I love how springy it is. Awesome shrinkage and length. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • How long is your hair? (Have you ever measured it?) In the front it's super long. My hair is the opposite, it grows 2 inches more every year in the front than in the back.

    Thanks for this video SERA!!!!

  • Don't know, I haven't measured in a while... I know its at least 31" though.

  • Omg at 3:51. You are definitely my hair inspiration. It's so inspiring to see someone with my hair texture with this length because most of the Youtube vids are of women with looser naps. I hope I can reach this in 4 years.

  • Girl, you got some real thick and pretty hair on your head...wow! Check out Rustic Beauty's channel. That sistah has a SERIOUS head of hair too!

  • Thanks!

Yeah I have checked Rustic Beauty's channel, her hair is gorgeous!

  • thanks for answering all my questions.

  • You're welcome! :)

  • Lovely hair!

  • thanks for showing this.

  • You're welcome; just trying to help. :)

  • thanks for the video. okay, i see how you do it now. I guess after you wash your hair in braids, you leave it in braids to dry? and then you detangle the next day or 2 days later?

  • ...exactly! You're welcome!

  • Great videos! I would love for my hear to reach your length one day. Thanks for sharing your techniques.

  • You're welcome!

  • woooooooooow

im kind of mad because when i was transitioning I would stalk your fotki album hoping my hair would come out like yours but it didnt lol... I like my hair but YOUR hair is just awesome!

  • Hi Sera,

Thanks for showing your shrinkage!...I wonder if 50% is typical and/or what my hair will do. I have a very short TWA right now. And I haven't been natural since I was 12 (31 now). So I don't remember...I hope I get like 75% shrinkage. Then I could have the best of both worlds!...Do wet twists tend to lengthen or shrink when they dry? ... My gut says shrink, but I'm not sure...

    Thanks again! :-)

  • For me, wet twisting result in shrunken twists.

  • I twisted my dry stretched hair last night and am going to rinse them today because I want them to fatten up. As they dry they will also shrink and because I have greater shrinkage in the front (80%+) than in the back (50-60%) I already know I'm going to get a twist-mullet, lol.

Sera, it's so great to see someone with my hair texture doing natural hair videos. I've been to your Fotki and I especially love your twist and updo styles. I'd love to see an "Updo Basics" video someday. Thanks!

  • I was thinking of putting up an Updo How-to video sometime....

  • very informative, and great hair. Thanks!

  • thanks for sharing your technique..very well appreciated and helpful...keep the vids coming Sera!

  • OMG, I wish my hair was that long. How did u get your hair to grow so long?

  • Lots & lots of patience & time.
