When I try to parallel process my drums there is no output from the group chanel after i Send the drums to it and it seems to be doing sweat Fuck all.Any ideas how to fix this? Theres nothing on google
When i repeat this procedure, i can't notice a difference whether this switch (i mean the little orange switch that you activate at 0:30) i on or off...
@unclefish The pre-fader switch makes it so the gain you set for the Send won't be affected by the gain you set for the original track. You could turn the unprocessed drum track for example up or down, and it's not going to change how much signal is being sent to the compressor on the processed group.
a problem im having is that my vocals will have peeks like if a say something with a T or something and yes i have a pop filter but its still very loud and harsh on the ears... when i try to compress it the whole track is compressed... do u have any advice?
@isreal95 You put the vocal track through a compressor or limiter. The signal then gets sent via the chain to an eq with everything but say 14k knocked off (same frequency should be boosted too). The compressor will hear only 14k and will knock that frequency off. Do search for sidechain compression. If you're doing it with software you need a comp plug that allows sidechain.
@isreal95 It's really easy and it really does sound good because it's like having a multiband compressor where you can "duck" whatever frequencies you want. You should try it.
@isreal95 Ok in analogue: The signal chain goes like this - vocal signal into compressor (either directly or as an insert on your console), then, at the back of your compressor you should have a "sidechain" "send" and "return". Run a lead from the "send" of the "sidechain" section of the compressor to the "input" of an eq unit. Then run a lead from the "output" of your eq to the "return" of the "sidechain" section of the compressor...... cont.....
@noelectricmonk ...cont... setting for the eq: lower all frequencies below 1-2k. Then boost then boost 14k as far as it will go.
Compressor settings: You need to use it more aggressively than you usually would. So, attack: fastest. Release: 0.05 sec. ratio: 20:1 then play with the threshold to get it to work while testing with the mic.
It's the same idea with a DAW but I have to admit I haven't tried it much. I'll give it a go if you want and get back to you?
1 bar = 2 snares and not 2 snares = 2 bars.

What is this pre-fader switch doing?

@isreal95 Or side chain the comp with an eq and take out some highs

@noelectricmonk yea thats why i dont get it, i dont use analog devices. how would you do this on a DAW?

@isreal95 I'll get back to you. It's important to understand the concept though...

parale mean your clean track and a compressed one, you keep dynamic, you just add new one with the compressed track.
ritonnade 2 years ago
How can you add dynamics by compressing? Compression decreases the dynamic range.

But can also increase the amplitude of lower noises in the sound.
