  • I did it the wrong way on Sunday.. my knees are swollen and raw right now :/

  • wow you must be extremely athletic to do that all in one move. good job :)

  • rong way mate!!!

  • your a complete kook

  • are you jumping off your toes ?

  • fggfgfgfgfgfgfg

  • Tobey from surfkooks looks like a fucking psycho

  • @davidXdivad23 ha! I saw you video...you fight like lil girl...that's funny

  • @davidXdivad23 He looks like a kook himself

  • never go to the beach u fucking queer

  • This is a great one... thank you... One should always mention the mistakes as well in instruction videos. Very useful

  • i skate alot...street pools vert everything...i have a real sense of how a board feels under my feet...will it be easier for me to learn to surf than a person that doesnt...????will i learn faster?? just wondering...i thinking of picking it up..been pushing wood for like 7 years...now im 19..

  • @hempds

honestly dude i longboard skateboard, freestyle skateboard, blade, ski, snowboard, so i have a good sense of balance, and i tried surfing it might a help just a bit, but its still fuckin hard, lol

  • nothing better then learning how to surf in magical mexico!

  • ok

  • His front foot is way off centre ... in both instances. That will not help with balance at all.

  • @IncaRoad01 gdsfgg

  • im tryin to learn to surf. anybody got any advice or tips that would be helpful for a beginner?

  • This guy needs a lesson or two .

  • I am suffering from bad habits and trying to overcome them...I think this video was pretty helpful...fortunately for me I am a longboarder so I have room to push off with my toes...I could see how it would be hard for a shorty not to want to go to their knees first...another tip...run the steps through your head as you are paddling into the wave...otherwise you tend to go back to bad habits

  • you can use the rails on a longboard when first starting out, stop being dumbasses.

  • uhm i need some help, i have a shortboard and therefor i cant be using my toes to push up on the board, you know.. so how to, then..?

  • yeah don't put yer hands on the rail cuz if its not waxed once you push off they'll slip right off and you will hit yer face on the board. which hurts pretty bad

  • or just wax your rails.....

  • He's talking about bad habits and the video starts with him grabbing the rails ? This is a definate no no resulting in a very unstable pop up !

  • If you're trying to learn don't watch this kook.

First of all, don't put your hands on the rail. It's much easier to lose balance this way. Instead, put your hands each 1/2 way from each rail to the center of the board. Your hands can either be inverted (facing in, tougher) or facing the front with a slight tilt towards the rail

Also, when pushing yourself up, don't go straight up. Kill two birds with one stone and push your hands "up and out" when lifting. Don't come straight up and stand.

  • Keeping your hands off the rail really focuses your center of gravity. With practice, it becomes natural for some people to put their hands facing inward on the board on the lift. In a way it directs your energy towards the center of the board.

  • @peeej19 what do you mean by up and out? Explain?

  • There is also another way to pop up on a longboard that will position you further back on the board which is good for riding steeper/faster waves where you need to begin a sharp turn immediately after poping up. Watch Joel Tudor vids for demos of this technique.

  • terrible!!! hands should be near the center of the board, not on the rails

  • thats why hes a kook!

  • right foot is way off you missed the x spots

youre knee technique is totally wrong

i have taught over 5000 people to surf using

4 stand up techniques the pop up only 8% of students can do properly..what are you going to do if a 195lb guy that cant pop up do?

i will post a video of those techniques this week for you to see and demonstarte them on land on on the water....

  • so i need some help... im a beginner surfer, i surf newports beginner breaks like the pier on a fiberglass board, whenever i surf i am rly good at the beginning but then my feet start hurting rly bad from like hitting the board when i popup or something.. how do i stop this without having to buy booties?

  • I'm glad that he is not showing a step-up technique (as many surf schools do for beginners), but using your toes to push off the board is a bad habit to start. When you advance to a shortboard, you will not have the board at your toes to push off. If you are in reasonable shape, you should be able to do this properly even from the start.

  • wtf...hes a surf teacher???

    he a fat ass niggaaaaaaaaa

  • I've seen different people suggesting different places to put your hands when you pop up.

Should you grab the rails of the board when you push yourself up, or do it as he does, place your hands on top of the board and the push up?

  • great vid ive been looking into getting a board and trying this out but am a total noob. how much for an moderate board nothing real fancy just a kool decent board?

  • Get a foamie, its easier to learn on and theyre cheaper ... about 150 Aus dollars.

  • thanx man ill definently check that out :)

  • Good job, very well said. I like how you explained in detail and said to not get to the knees cause I see soooo many people out there getting to their knees and say they learned that way in Waikiki... lol yikes...

  • thanks! just the info a rookie like me needs.

  • i'm just learning how to surf myself, im just about 5'8 and i got a 6'6 dual-fin retro fish for my first board. hopefully in some amount of months ill get this pop up correct and catch a wave

  • what is the best board for biginner the short or long one??

  • short

  • longboard is the best for learning, it will be much sturdier and easier to ride so you learn how to stand and stuff first, then as you progress you can get a shorter board and start to learn tricks and stuff, have fun out there

    maholo

  • No I do surf for 22 years now, the Los Angeles area. Soon everywhere north and south will have the same problem. LOL

  • What do you do when its so crowded that surfboards are constantly raining down the wave?

  • you dont go out lol, wait till morning of the next day and get to the break at first light, should get you a few hours of uncrowded surfing

  • merci d'avoir bien expliqué

  • COOL NICE DUDE!

  • thanks mate

  • wow this is perfect

    thanks a buch dude

  • thanks man

  • better teach how to do floaters or cutback or airs some else more difficult ¬¬

  • dude YOU try and do that on a shortboard you got no chance why dont you actually go surfing instead of playing golf you chat shit man

  • thats rly easy and Unnecessary

  • thanks man ;)

  • dude, thanks a lot for your video

  • i've seen people use the knee first thing and they do fine, they just bring it far into the centre to keep the weight there. having said that, i do think straight up is better if you can do it.

  • omg y did i watch this

  • dood not good land to hard move up a bit more i just jump up and surf

  • i learned that when i surfed in hawaii

  • Wow thats amazing!! Your amazing!!!

  • Dude gromits no that!

  • haah! seriously brah!

  • lol dude u land on the board 2 hard...lifting ur body way 2 high when u pop, u got mad dents in ya board?

  • dude i just figured that out like 2 weeks ago and i was surfin for like 7!!

  • Thanks from an enthusiastic newbie.

  • now do it on a shortboard when you cant use your feet to push off you kook

  • why would any non kook watch this?

  • How DO shortboarders do it if they can't use their feet to push off?

  • just gotta push fuckin hard and get to your feet i find it easyer on a short board than a longboard

  • join the NSSIA.....

  • not helpful

  • youre retarted

  • @redneck2319 thank you

  • @dany55655 so sorry
