I think Gary Oldman was an outstanding Oswald. He got the mannerisms and the annoying "lip purse" perfectly.
Watch the film "Immortal Beloved". It's a great story. Try to get a copy that has the directors commentary. Watch the film. Then watch it again while listening to the director.
"It is now abundantly clear why the C.I.A.'s covert operations element wanted John Kennedy out of the Oval Office and Lyndon Johnson in it. The new President elevated by rifle fire to control of our foreign policy had been one of the most enthusiastic American cold warriors. Johnson had originally risen to power on the crest of the fulminating anti-communist crusade which marked American politics after World War II."

"Sometimes people sort of glaze over about the notion that the Mafia and U.S. intelligence and the anti-Castro activists were involved together in the assassination of President Kennedy. In fact, there's no contradiction there. Those three groups were all in bed together at the time and had been for several years in the fight to topple Fidel Castro." --Anthony Summers, journalist and assassination researcher, interviewed by Bill Curtis for the cable TV program, Investigative Reports
Lee Harvey Oswald was an informant directly to the Kennedys. Hell, according to Gerry Patrick Hemming, Oswald met with RFK in his cell in Dallas the night JFK was shot. This is why the notes of the questioning of Oswald went missing. Because it was included in the police notes.
Oswald was infiltrating the Mafia through Guy Bannister, Jack Ruby, Clay Shaw, and David Ferrie. He had obviously been trained as a spy. They somehow found out and Hoover and the Mob framed him.
Jfk one of the best movies of all the times great edition and assembly the critiques on a possible conspiracy in the death of jfk cannot cover the perfection of this movie Directed masterfully by oliver stone
TRUE - No offense, but Stone took a lot of liberties with this story that were not his to make. For example, he either by design, or sheer ignorance failed to mention that Connally's jump seat was LOWER and to the LEFT of JFK...making the "magic bullet" theory unnecessary and meaningless. Now every idiot out there with a DVD player thinks the "magic bullet" theory is relevant.
This attorney who went after Clay Shaw was, LONG BEFORE JFK, the laughing stock of the judicial system.
krata - If I was being FRAMED the first place I would have run to would be a daily newspaper.
Instead, Oswald goes home, grabbed his gun (yes, HIS gun) from his boarding-room. Then, goes outside and shots a cop. Then RAN to a local theater to hide. When he was approached, 21 patrons of the theater WATCHED Oswald try to shoot the officer.
Look, Oswald is either guilty of killing two men or, he's guilty of being mighty stupid. Either way, he's hardly a "hero".
@CubanCheGuevara Thank you!!! I can't belive people think this slime is a hero. The movie brainwashed them. The jfk movie was an bunch of lies twisted to look like a documentary. Talk about mind control! glad I found someone who wasn't taken in.

Hmm. Looking at this again, after some time, I see they did a good job recreating some of the black-and-white Marina and Lee shots, down to the clothes and backgrounds, and he looks darned good! He is even Tiny (as was Real Lee) while being led out by the DPD. I wonder if Oldman is short, or if they just cast TALL DPD actors!
My dad's best friend robert groden helped make this movie and spent alot of time with him. He said that gary was very nice and funny. I am SOOO jealous of him for getting to meet him.
Though Oldman had the VOICE down, I always thought Willie Garson (sp) was a far better LeeLookAlike ("Quantam Leap," "Ruby") as was (John?) Pleshette in 1978's "Trial of Lee Harvey Oswald." Oldman was just a little too - creepy. Oh. But then, I guess that was the point...
I wish someone would make a video comareing Oldman's performance with real-life footage of Oswald, it would be spooky, and would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this actor deserves far more recognition.
Gary Oldman was a fantastic L.H. Oswald in this movie... I didn't even recognize him in it. And when I saw him in another movie i said "Hey, thats Lee Harvey Oswald!"
That right there is the sign of a good actor.. you remember his character more readilly than his name.
I felt the same way about his Sid Viscious portrayal: Although I was very familiar with SV for years before I ever saw Oldman, when I think Sid, I see Gary.
Uh yeah, there is actually great debate about that by his fans. He's never even been nominated and Julia Roberts won a damn Academy Award? Proof that there is evil and injustice in the world...and stuff.
Yeah, actually, it seems to me that in this film, many of the ensemble of actors were superb. Kevin Bacon, Ed Eisner, Donald Sutherland, and especially Gary Oldman...but ironically, I don't include Kevin Costner in that list.
@vegasbaby92 I do, his acting was just so damn natural. This movie didn't go any where near an oscar because it told the truth about the government. Same thing happens with any movie that goes near the truth. Rosewood, etc. etc. etc. Make no mistake, the closest any industry has ever gone to finding the truth is the movie industry, because it is ran by individuals and what they believe should be added in a movie is added in a movie, not what big corparations think shoudl be added.
@vegasbaby92 Absolutely! I rather regret that he is too old to reprise the role in a more truthful film about LHO's life rather than wasting his talent in this discredited film.
@vegasbaby92 Gary Oldman should have gotten nominated for every fucking film he was in, apparently he's not worth one oscar since he was never nominated, which proves the oscars are bullshitters
We watched this in class my junior year. I couldn't stop thinking two things: 1. WOW, Gary Oldman totally is HOT. and 2. WOW, Gary oldman totally looks like a hot version of Lee Harvey Oswald.
you know i love how in the movie they always zoom in on his eyes. like they want to let the world know how beautiful gary's eyes are. anyway he totally became oswald in this movie

Gary Oldman sounded and looked the part of the 24 year old Oswald, despite being nearly 10 years older in real life.
Check out Hannibal (2001)- Oldman plays a disfigured gay pedophile, Dracula as the old and young Count Dracula, etc.
Why Oldman has never gotten an Oscar nom or win is mind-boggling to me.....
