nothing wrong with triggering a drum kit...it's takes the place of mics, can be setup before hand to create a mix that the drummer wants, and it helps with smooth response from the kit

as far as what you hear on recordings in the metal genre, most drums are simulators via plugins anyway, unless it's a band who has money to throw down on good drum recordings, mixing, and mastering...which the majority of people that say they can "record your band" can't do
