She make all right. Here in german we feed the red squirrels at the same way. But we give them kitten-breeder-milk with fennel tea (1:3 mix).

Squirrels are easy to raising... Hedgehogs, Bunnys and Mice are difficult...

@P4brains Thanks. I guess people don't read the info for the video. I take in over 1,000 wild mammals a year with a 95% release rate. I teach Fish & Game accredited classes in wildlife rehabilitation. There are a few different ways to properly feed baby squirrels. Some use syrings, some bottles, some tubes. There are also a few different formulas which one can use. I use Fox Valley formula made for squirrels. Some use other types. There is more than one way to properly feed a squirrel.

@ashlanas Yes, I'm licensed and know what I'm doing. I've even written manuals on the subject and have been doing this for over a decade. You can feed prone or in an upside down V. You may use a nipple or not. You may use a 1 cc or 3 cc depending upon the squirrel and your skill level.

Thanks for the informative video on the angle. Unfortunately I found a 1-2 week old baby squirrel after the pharmacy was closed and I couldn't go out to get pedialyte, so I used a mixture of 1 qt water, 1 tsp salt, 3 tsps sugar to just get him through the night until I can get him to the rehab center tomorrow morning. He is bruised and had cuts I treated with watered-down peroxide--he's making chattering grunts right now, hope he'll make it through the night.

I got 3 baby sqiurruls there about 4 days old and I've bene feding them puppy milk but the puppy milk is made out of goets milk I don't no if the milks doing it or not the feet are all sweld up and 1 of the teo nales came of and I fink 1 of there toes are broken and the tales are the same please help me

Baby squirrels need a special formula that can be provided at a wildlife rehab center. They cannot drink cow milk.

Well i actuallty found five and they all sadly pasted on, i recomend bringthing to a wildlife center ASAP they wont be able to surivive, if you are going to keep them a one a nite you can make your own pedialiyte like i did, am im only a kid haha, its just sugar and water u can look it up online

should feed Esbilac puppy formula - not kitty. Feed with syringe (not bottle) as squirrels aspirate very easily (can cause pneumonia). We are raising one now from about 3 weeks old - he just opened his eyes yesterday.

Hey Mary,

I have a baby squirrel that I found (fell from a tree).

My problem is that everytime during feeding, she would fight with me, squirm and wriggle around.

And how often do you feed the squirrel?

My squirrel is around 3 weeks old and is now drinking around 2 cc's of esbilac every 3-4 hours.

Is that not frequent enough?

During Hurricane Charley, I went out in the eye to inspect damage and found a nest of three baby squirrels that got blown from the tree and had to care for them until I could get them to a wildlife rehabilitator, which took about a week. All three survived and were released together in December of that year. Thank goodness I keep pedialyte cubes and powdered puppy formula in the freezer for emergencies like this because Wal-Mart is not open when a Cat 4 storm is passing.

I didnt know you could feed them Pedialyte. I asked my vet what to feed my baby squirrel cause I had been feeding it cows milk and they told me no kitten's formual or cows milk cause they fed that to a couple of babies they had and they died from it. But they said puppy's formula is better for them mixed with water. I also added a little bit of human baby cereal( the flaky rice kind) to it to give it some texture and its been helping alot because my baby was having probs gaining weight.

A bloated stomach could be gas, constipation or mega colon. I'd give baby gas drops then make him drink a bit of water. Is the squirrel pooping? Is he straining to go poo?

Yesterday, when cutting down trees, I found 4 squirrels, which still have closed eyes. I would like to help them survive. My questions is about the food. I am from European Union and words Pedialyte & Esbilic does not mean a lot to me. I assume that is a brand name of some animal food, sold in the USA. Can you suggest me what milk to use and what to do before giving it to the squirles

@SlowCOOKERsi You should try to reunite babies with mom. Mom is alive and wants her babies. Put them in a box under where the tree was that you cut down. She will take them one by one to a backup nest. If she doesn't, we give human hydrating fluids then puppy milk. Thanks.
