  • he seems much more soft-spoken and earnest here. ah youth!

  • You'll be dearly missed, fellow.

  • Look at him here and then look at him now. See how your own fucking cells can destroy you! What an intelligent design indeed!

  • " I miss the second world war "

  • @StraussBR i *missed* the second world war actually

  • Eerie, they begin the show by announcing the death of a journalist of cancer...

  • He was kinda good looking!

  • How was the Iraq war anything to do with fundamentalism islam ? Iraq was a secular nation...and Saddam actually curtailed the rise of any islamist groups (mainly the shiites) through mass murder and genocide. The US government has NOW put in a shiite islamist government that IRAN supports. . I can't believe that has 7 thumbs up...What a bunch of stupid idiots.

  • @Laher1986 How can a sunni dictator, who was oppressing shia arabs, marsh arabs and kurds, be considered a secular leader?

  • Get a load of the Tea Bircher talk of 83.-)

I heard a critique of former Utah Governor

Jon Huntsman by one of the "philosophers

& seekers of truth" of today, "“On a good day,

    he’s a socialist. On a bad day, he’s a communist,” - Darcy Van Orden, a co-founder of Utah Rising"

It's still 1958 when The John Birch Society

was co-founded by Fred Koch, daddy of the Koch Bros.

Hitchens wrote about the Bircher bookstore outside

the Mormon Tabernacle which he visited when he

    1st arrived in the US.

  • I really enjoy watching these older news day broadcasts. Lamb holding up and reading from one of several newspapers laying on the table has an authentic, somewhat folksy, non-sterile feel to it unlike modern news shows full of demagogic personalities and flashing animations all over the screen.

  • There is no change. He still thinks of himself as a Leftie. Supporting the Iraq war is based on his viewing the fundamentalism of Islam as dangerous and Saddam as a right wing dictator. Hitch could never see Saddam as a 'socialist' as he has styled himself, as Saddam is more like Hitler than anyone else.

  • @chazwyman ahmen. People are so thin skinned they accuse Hitch of being a turn coat just because he takes a position not in line with the left. its sorta sad. Call hitch what you will but the guy thinks for himself.

  • @chazwyman that is not true he is definitely more conservative nowadays

  • Hitchens haven't changed that really, some think that hes suddenly right-wing because of his support of the iraq war. But hes quite consistent otherwise. He admits to view the world through marxist eyes and thats rather "recent" in hitch history.

  • wow christopher has changed his position totally. i think iraq 1991 changed him profoundly...

  • okay...okay....okay....

  • Hahahaha, at about 4:00 when that caller is explaining American politics to Hitch you can see him look at the host and try not to laugh. Hitch probably knows more about America than the caller, and this was 20 years ago!

  • @AndrewDewittBaker More like 30 years ago

  • Back when people were worried about liberals becoming mushier haha...

    Reid/Pelosi democrats are total wetbacks.

  • seemingly less surly in his earlier years

  • Kicking ass is the early 80's :)

  • Geez there were a lot of inarticulate people calling in to C-span in those days. In dealing with them, Hitchens has the patience of a saint, but the cunning of.... well, of someone admirably similar to the mature Hitchens. Impressively similar.

  • Reagan violated the Prime Directive! 8:20

  • Hitchens has changed a lot since then, I can't help thinking of Iraq when he is talking about Grenada....

  • @neoldd1 That's certainly on the mark.
