when you are near the cages, do they ever reach through and touch you? when my cat wants something, or is trying to get my attention she'll reach out and touch me, and with how comfortable they seem with you close i was curious whether they ever did that with the staff there.
OMG whooda thunkit? Was that Joseph, the lion? Anyway, what a happy cat - but he looked like a stoner! Too cute. Great job of enrichment. I'm sure you've tried tobasco sauce, curry and other of the stronger spices . . .
such beautiful, beautiful creatures.... i love watching any videos about your big cats. i'd love to be able to work with them... i know you need special training, but that's always been a big dream for me.
@JacobLoves12 Yeah they are. Most of them are not good candidates for breeding stock as their pedigrees are unknown and some are even inbred and BCR wouldn't want to pollute the wild stock with inferior breeding patterns. They did have a family of sand cats that were left intact because their family line could be traced back to wild parentage.
@skippylexi No, we don't have any contact with our cats, it's simply too dangerous and if we did have contact it would reinforce the insane idea that these cats can make good "pets" which they do not...
@BigCatRescue so you've never put your hand through the cage when it wasn't looking to touch it for a quick second. i mean what if it's back was turned. couldnt u stick ur finger through and touch it.
@skippylexi Nope, anyone who does this is instantly dismissed form our volunteer program and I know how fast these cats are, even if I could i wouldn't.
@skippylexi No we can easily move the cats without resorting to sedation. All of our enclosures are built with two or more section with a sliding door in the middles. So we can simply bring a food bucket and treats call the cat over to the side we want them in while another keeper closes the door :) No stress or drugs required and the cats get a food treat, everyone wins! :)
@BigCatRescue no problem keep em coming. living up here in canada i've visited florida a few times. it's a really nice state keep up the good work. and keep the videos coming :)
@BigCatRescue have you ever had to go call the fire department to get a cat from a tree? just kidding im supporting youall the way but have you ever had to help one of the cats come down from some where
I'm going to have to find out if my little big cat (don't worry, he's a Siamese) likes cinnamon or not. I already know he like just about anything with cayanne pepper in it.
@Krowsnose Yes, we believe they were raised together at the roadside zoo we rescued them from, in the hopes of breeding a liger? We don't breed at BCR so both cats were fixed to prevent them from doing so, they live well together so we built a huge enclosure for them to share :)
@BigCatRescue you should have gave them actual whole cinnamon sticks not the powder cause they wind up breathe it in when they go to smell it and I don't think that would feel to good..let's ask Steve O. He's probably already snorted his share and if he hasn't then maybe he'll do it as a benefit..yea give them whole cinnamon
@MrJonesgg But they would then consume a large amount of cinnamon instead of being able to rub on the loose cinnamon on the ground which is what they enjoy to do with new scents because they have scent glands in their cheeks :)
i love white tigers. they are SO beautiful. Its a shame how they were created the way they are. Is it true that the breeding of white tigers is the reason the tiger species is endangered?
@hishippiegirl White tigers are bred in captivity this does not effect the population of wild tigers, but in many cases tigers bred in what we call backyard breeding facilities to kill the tigers for their body parts do effect wild populations of tigers. This increases the demand for tiger body parts to be used in medicines etc... which gives poachers more incentive to go and kill wild tigers :(
This is so interesting, It seems different breeds of cats are affected differently by the Cinnamon. That pretty cool. I figured they would all react the same way.
LMAO This is from "The Hangover." Search "TIGERS LOVE PEPPER." Allen goes "Tigers love pepper, they hate cinnamon." Thumb this up so people get the reference.
@soledmt We already knew that the cats enjoyed cinnamon, they enjoy all different kinds of scents and spices we give to them for enrichment to stimulate their senses. This isn't cruel this is what big cats love!
@BigCatRescue I had experienced with wild cats in South Amercica. For sure this scents and spices stimulate senses, but they are senses that wild animals are not used to sense the way the video shows, therefore, the eyes cold suffer instant irritation and disturbing reactions. This could be proved because wild animals has evolved senses used to survive in wildness.
@BigCatRescue Cinammon is an escence wild animals can find in wildness , and thats why they like it powder could irritate them. Plus, you are stimulating senses that wild cats enjoy in their FREEDOM, they use these senses to explore lands and leave their smell to mark territory and leave messages between other wildcats. It seems cruel to me. Videos posted shows what the context wants to show, u must educate ppl
