DO YOU THINK THEY CAME UP WITH THE GROUP NAME WHILE ONE OF THEM WAS SITTING ON THE TERLET BOWL?...DRIPPITY DROP WENT THE POOH! LOL STORMY WEATHER IN MY JOHN!! LMFAOO..
Jack You had a fantastic sound and still do. I changed your group name on these specific later releases in my library to Poopyheads. Ha. Never liked the other word. It's maybe because of my parental/Catholic parochial school experience. I'm guessing that "Dreaming Of You" was also originally recorded and unreleased in 63 or 64. Brian
Hey Brian, Thanks for all the nice words. The bible says something like When i was a child i did childish things. Not much to add to that. You can call us anything you wish. And you are right about Dreaming of You . We later re-recorded it as The Kaptions. Same group and band. I'm still broadcasting on the doo wop cafe every thursday nite from 6-8 and sunday mornings from 8-10. All eastern standard time. Join me if you want to. We have a lot of fun.
I had a friend about 35 years ago in Trenton, NJ who worked for WTNJ named "Sal T" who had this record and I ever held it in my hand once. GAWD what memories are flooding back!
@frankp3 Jerry Greene and Jarret Weinstein. They worked for Slim in Times Square then started The Record Museum store in Philly. Greene was also into toy trains.
Oh lighten up everybody! This is a classic version of this great song sung by a classic group. (What's in a name anyway, as long as they can sing like they do?) I for one think the group's name is hilarious (I like it better than if they were called "The Five Stoners")...................and I'm a great-grandmother!! WTG LYTATION!
Fantastic Stuff...Thanks for Posting, Any Idea of the Year? any history you can supply me with about this Group would be greatly appreciated, are they a "Big Daddy" Style Band? and whats the name all about.... Cheers from London Town.
Hi. this was recorded before i met Val. Or had just met him. One of the group went to school with Val. That's how i met him. His involvment would be the fact theat he pressed it during the 70's when i wasn't into this music. The lytations and 5 shits are the same group man for man. Thanks
I'm sorry, I'm not buying. for all these reasons...
1 No DJ would ever play a group called the 5 shits. 2. This record number on Chance was issued with Willie Nix. 3 Based on the record number, it would be dated in 1954.....there was no sound like this yet.
Let me try to clear things. The stormy weather side was a legitamate recording by The Lytations. late 63 - 64. I wrote the song and sang lead. The flip is a practice tape the Contenders on Java. Again my song with me doing bass & lead. just a sound check really . Never completed the tune. A close friend put this record out in the 70's . Never intended to be played on the radio , although a few did. And of course the spoof continues on to Chicago with the Chance label. Jack
@lytation Nevah mind the peanut gallery. You said you were young and having fun. And it's a good little tune!! Thanks for sharing the story and the song.
@handinside Art Sheridan and Ewart Abner owned Chance. When the label went under Vee Jay bought the masters and hired Abner. He almost got fired when he embezzled funds from the label which was one of the causes to kill Vee Jay at the peak of their power. Abner then worked for Motown.
@srercrcr I imidiatey would play the 5 Shits. Because they theee shit! I although play the Gay Poppers. In Germany. Where "Gay" means homosexual and "Poppen" means havon' sex. I rather smile and love the music.... This is just great!
i took so much payola back in the day i have a huge mansion now, thank you payola! and the artist i played the most got hugee!! ahahahahaahh (evil laugh)
Great idea. You could have people call up and request this one, ask 'em why not, accuse 'em of payola and curse 'em out. Seriously, the flip side was a real nice, friday nite sort of record.
Thanks for the nice weords. Only two memebers were n the lytations as well as the Contenders. Myself and Frank Torpey. It's a long story. I kinda wish thay hadn't pressed them as the 5 shits also. Jack
Yes it is. God bless you. Pretty Litle Girl is an Unfinished Contenders song. Uncle sam called me . Stormy Weather is The Lytaions. My first group. Jack
I once heard a long-time DJ on a low-power college radio station once say that 45 you have is one of the most sought after 45's out there. Either way, nice version of the song.
thanks for the kind words. I didn't name the doo wop cafe. I only do a show there. To me it's all music. Some good , some bad. A good song is a good song reguardless. Give my show a listen . maybe you'll hear something worth while, jack

Excellent doowop!. I marked this as a favorite as well as "Dreaming of You".
A funny choice of a group name that I can appreciate!.
A less harsh group name might have been "flatulence and the colontones", or the "cryptations"

I tried the "doowop"cafe & the only problem is they play anything from Al Martino to pat boone to elvis to acker bilk, etc. Not what you would classified as doo wop. Doo wop should not be in the site name, very misleading.
