Yes GPS is used on all types of newer aircraft, and systems are retrofitted onto old planes. Most GPS systems like the Nuvi's only receive signals and do not transmit any signal at all, therefor they do not interfere with any equipment on the aircraft.
That being said, if your flight attendant tells you to put it away... and you refuse, don't be surprised if you are detained upon landing. Flight attendants generally are over-stressed, over-worked, and underpaid.
when i put my garmin on charge its display maps disappear and screensaver come up. i try already to change display properties but it didnt work. any 1 know how to fix it. help me
Yes. Most commercial planes are fitted with GPS these days for assistance, though not usually used for navigation...about 470 knots..about cruise speed for a lot of airliners
Yeah, i remember when my dad was little, he had this GPS he used for his boat, it didnt show color, and only had black lines on a blank screen to indicate sailing waypoint, or for vehicle, roads.
Think about it had the passengers of hijacked airliners on 9/11 had one they could tell the FBI exactly where they were and where they were headed. When the terrorists said we are heading back to the airport thy would have known that was bs almost instantly. Its cool to see exactly where you are during a flight and your airspeed. There is a setting where you can tell your altitude too.
I got my nuvi 350 about 3 hours ago. This is an incredible GPS for it's price. I even bought a refurbished one from Garmin for 250 bucks and its perfect.
what else is cool I did that with my Nuvi when I flew and the roads do match up when you look out the window as to what it shows on the map so they are very accurate

Many pilots would disagree with you. GPS is commonly used for navigation in medium sized jets and in long range autopilot flights

I do think gps can be dangerous for safety of the aircraft.Gps could disturb navigation tools.
be carefull next time
aziza88 3 years ago
dumbass, no it cannot. GPS is only recieving signals that are already in the air.
Parafly9 3 years ago 13
yeah...already in the air.
