  • Opps sorry the Stamp Act was 1765.

  • The Colonists did smuggle in Sugar and Molasses during that time as they felt it was a threat to their "natural rights" as free men. If strictly enforced the Colonists in New England were faced with financial ruin. This trade was one of the principle means of wealth for them. Believing that the Act was unjust they did smuggle and England allowed it to pass for a time. The Stamp Act was passed in 1764.

  • You don't have the right facts. Somewhere along the line you were misinformed. The sugar act was passed in 1733 and it was a high duty placed on sugar and molasses from the West Indies in exchange for lumber and fish. The fish were inferior qualities of fish which were not salable in New England and elsewhere so they were trading it for sugar and molasses. Sugar is Molasses. Also Some of it was used in exchange for African slaves, to be sold to the Southern Colonies.
