To me Gears 1 had the best horror feeling to it, Gears 2 had more of an action feel to it, where Gears 3 had an epic finishing-the-fight adrenaline moment. Though for the comments below I agree to both sides, killing the squad leader can send the rest of the team in disarray, but it doesn't exactly work if each member has a strong individual personality, like jaycarmine's reasoning of Marcus' personality, and the other being, what the cog soldier displayed leading to his death by the berserker.

In RAAMs shadow *SPOILERZ DONT READ IF YOU DONT WANT TO* RAAM kills Valera, a member of the Zeta squad which Kim is in charge of. he wants revenge and crashes RAAM's reaver and goes to kill him until Barrick stops him. So RAAM's pissed at Kim and wants his revenge. probably why he didn't kill the rest of delta.

Sure, that punch was of pure vengeance, but the killing of the squad leader was just the strategy of RAAM and queen Myrrah.

Only in this case the ''head could be replaced'' because of Marcus' natural leadership. I know all about Gears of War and trust me, this strategy worked on a lot of squads. What IS funny or makes you think a lot about, is that RAAM already tried to kill Kim the EXACT same way he did here. It just makes me think: ''So... he finally got him''. I mean, Kim was determined to kill RAAM, but RAAM almost had killed kim in the DLC. But RAAM still gets him here, in the same way. Weird, isn't it?

However, as the queen says in this cutscene, RAAM's strategy, which the queen approved of, was to kill the leader causing the rest of the gears to be disassembled. ''Cut off the head of the snake and the body dies'' meaning: ''Kill the leader and the team will be disassembled.'' It was their strategy.

@jaycarmine Yea thats true too I remember reading somewhere that after RAAM was killed the Locust Army was unstable for a time even with the Queen around. Then when Skorge took RAAM's position the Locust were back on their feet. Speaking of Skorge I wonder if they'll do a campaign about Skorge like they did with RAAM. I'm doubting it though since Skorge was kinda weak sauce compared to RAAM. Skorge might just be released as a multiplayer character alongside new maps as DLC.

@TheCajunGambit1 Exactly. To the Locust horde, RAAM's failure and death seemed to spell certain doom; the outer hollows were destroyed taking millions of lives of drones. The tide of the war was turned to the human's favor and weakened the Horde's defenses against the Lambent. However, RAAM's failure caused the Riftworm to awake and allowed his successor Skorge to efficiently use it as a massive counterattack to sink cities. I think Epic failed giving this new boss Skorge a meaningful role.

@jaycarmine RAAM'S failure didn't awaken anything. It was the Lightmass bomb that did. And the reason why Skorge can control the Riftworm is because he's basiclly the "Pope" if you will, of the Locust. He's the ONLY Locust that can communicate with and lead the Riftworm.

Indeed, Skorge could control the Riftworm because he is the general of the Locust Horde (The Pope is the queen) but if RAAM was still alive he would still be the general and could've controlled it, too.
