  • 27 mins 40 seconds, funniest thing ive ever seen.

  • Ken - you are a most wonderful man to enable us all to see your amazing collection - well done and a big thankyou to YOUTUBE too for making all this possible.....xxx

  • This is such a great movie. Inspired me when I was just getting into film as a youngster. Made me realise that British cinema is important.

    Thank you Ken Loach.

  • Inspired idea for 'distributing' some of the most important British film works of our times. The Freedom of 'Free', and worthwhile, Speech!

  • thank you!!!!

  • I just love the Yorkshireness and this makes me very proud to be from Yorkshire. 1:08 is magic.

  • Wow. The whole thing. I love this film. It reminds me of my youth in Lancashire (Late 70's/early 80's) Pure magic. How many films are made these days with this level of authenticity? Very few I think. Very few.

  • I have an exam on this tomorrow morning, fucking bullshit

  • No way LOL 0:51

  • i cant understand a word. speak american! jk jk.

  • Is that all his mum gives him for dinner at the beginning? A packet of crisps? LOL

  • @BlackSabbathFan1985 There's a couple of kids i know up my street who live on crisps for dinner & eat anythin put on a plate in front em :) , It's a council estate like, but it's better than nothin eh ^-^

  • @glitterNsnow We had people like that Google Paul Sykes ... Barnsley ...

  • @K2Dogs Wow, what a man. Thanks for that, dint know he built meadowhall :D

  • @glitterNsnow Well we won`t hold that against him...lol.

  • Jud... WHAT a bastard!

  • Never miss a chance to watch a Classic film....... Living in Barnsley it always brings back great memories , so true of Northern Life in the best way , always neglected, but showing our great qualities ,makes me feel proud to come from a Great town .

  • @K2Dogs Totally agree with you! We need to keep our accents/dialects: its what we're all about.

Bet you don't get mistaken for an Aussie in the US then........like I did - twice.....and I thought I was talking posh! (SE London and prad of it!!! lol)

    Seriously adore this film

  • ave ya seen r billy?? aye es in here with me

  • love this film, it's ace

  • Is this designed to piss off the people who own the rights Ken? No matter the reason thank you for sharing your wonderful work with us.

  • OOOH, WHAT A WHOPPER!

  • optional english subtitle would be perfect here. Hear us!

  • Cor ! # what a good film ..!

  • Hands off cocks, on socks.

  • @willpreeview LMAO!!!! Dya know, its funny what little snippets in life we remember.........why would I remember this lol!!!!

I sometimes say it to my son when I get him up for work........and I'm always reminded of Kes :)

  • Ohhhh, this is like visual nectar lol!!! This will always remind me of happy times at school - SE London Comp full of 'erberts!!!! Honestly, they were great times. Must have been around 13/14. Had to watch this in the school hall for English. Me and the gals took the p*ss out of the Northern boys.......and the shower scene bought the place to its knees.

And now I see it as a British Classic. Thank You so much for your masterpiece, Mr Loach x

  • so funny so sad and so enteryaning a classic

  • proud t b frum yorkshire

  • hourrah that was brilliant, ages I wanted to see that film, since reading the book

c'est trop un chef Ken Loach

  • C'mon Kes come teh CRAAAIIIIIGGG DAVID!! propa bo' I tell thee. Love this film anyway. Just thought about the reference from Bo'selecta......bizarre

  • @TheAaron87

Ha ha somebody empty me piss bag....Propper bo i tell thee

  • ... i had to study the book for english literature gcse. at the time i hated it and detested watching this film in lesson but for some reason right now i'm watching it with interest - how odd.

  • The original film on vhs, had an extended scene in the classroom. When hes talking about Kes to the class, more questions are asked, that version is funnier. But I cant seem to find it...

  • You cant believe how hard it is too understand this accent for a foreigner. I think i got 30% of the words...but i like though

  • @servicetek7 haha you definitely wouldn't understand me then, i'm from the same town

  • Love this film...anyone who has an older brother can relate...definitely in my top 10 of all time. "switch out light then"..."switch it out yourself" haha

  • @NovusOrdo2012 the bird's called Kes, kids called Billy, and his teacher is the only person who showed him a bit of respect and interest.

  • as much as i like this film the accents don't seem right...as of there to profound

  • @scaleop4 i duno..im from Barnsley where it was filmed and it sounds pretty accurate to me... although i agree at times it sounds a little put on

ken loach thanks for sharing your art for free ... I am a fan Argentina yours ... a living in madrid ... I always go to the cinema to watch your movies and will do ... thanks

  • Sir leads the troops, jealous of youth, same old jokes since 1902....

  • "We'll be Spurs sir, so there's no clash of colours".

  • Hellava film ! I remember reading the book in our english class and then the teacher showed us this great film.

  • probably one of the best videos ever made .. also my father was starred in this :)

  • you see his cock and balls when he come out the shower isnt he underage though :S

  • ha ha look at the teachers face when hes running back after he scores that penalty all chuft with himself

  • @AllanHable BRIAN GLOVER was a decent actor and started is glittering career off more or less in kes .. he also starred in aliens 3. he died mid filming though if i recall correctly

  • I read the book at school and found it quite depressing. Must've been good though for me to remember it.

  • @neraknelly nobody cares

  • @ryko26 Thanks -but you shouldn't refer to yourself as a nobody.

  • they just dont make films like this no more tv is crap now

  • 9:00 my little lad loves the old comics

he is reading The Dandy in this

  • i did this in english GCSE

  • This IS NOT the ORIGINAL Version of "KES".... This is the overdubbed MGM version dubbed for the American Market. Keep your eyes open for the original version on the BBC. Proper Barnsley dialect, why the original was not released I just do not know. ViC

  • Love Ken Loachs' films, they are very gritty and realistic and it's great to see what England was like in the 60s and 70s

  • wicked prog- i loved the book too- nice1 :)

  • English revision!!

  • this was filmed in the same area i live.

  • oh god, we watched this in english for gcse -_-;

  • HAHAH fucking love it

  • Superb.

  • arr bless, he nicked the milk but put the bottle back :-p

  • watched this at school many years ago still got the book givin at school classic

  • incredibly moving

  • i have to study this book at school and it depresses me so much I was relieved when (spoiler alert) kes dies

  • Ken, you are badass for letting everyone watch your films for free! Cheers!

  • Whats the poin of a really poor voice over??????

  • @THEHORNEYRABBIT it's not dubbed, they really speak like that, it's called Tyke

  • @THEHORNEYRABBIT This is Barnsley, you know. It's in Yorkshire; half of the locals speak like that. Visit Barnsley someday and you'd know.

  • @AltonTowersChild "Along Came Polly" is probably more your kind of film.

  • @piccanninni LMAO Yes, it looks like it.

  • @AltonTowersChild how can it be boring and your usernames called that?????

  • @gunnerbrennan It's boring for me because I don't like football, I don't understand their accents, it's old and basically I want something with comedy and adventure. My username's called that because I like Alton Towers, so I don't see anything wrong with that.

  • @AltonTowersChild Oh, come off it. You don't know anything about good films.

  • @DanielL5583 We all have opinions about things, just because I didn't like this film doesn't mean I don't know good films. Plus I'm 13 so it's not like I'm going to enjoy this.

  • @AltonTowersChild What difference does that make? I'm 14.

  • @DanielL5583 Young people don't usually watch films like this.

  • @DanielL5583 School probably made you watch it though. I like it but would never have watched it if school hadn't made us.

  • @Pentdad Never watched it at school; my parents loved the film.

  • @AltonTowersChild I am 13 and i love this film, totally understand the accents aswell.

  • haha legendary film!

the football scene has to be one of the greatest scenes in british film history

  • Hands off cocks...on socks

  • Comment removed

  • Come on Kes you Bastid...come to Craiiig Daaavid!

  • I'm from Burnley, but love that Barnsley accent i think its the shit! Apparently its fading though ive read.

  • epic film

  • Fuck their accents.

  • WTF do you mean by that?????

  • Great move this is, brings back memories.

  • Love this film!!!!!!

  • Jud is a fucking bastard >:(

  • Loving this film, so, so good, but i must say.... worst ending ever!!! ok, not ever, but... it was a bit of a let down considering how good the rest of the film was.

@jeffrey44 u sucker haha. is this film where bo-selecta got it from? thats so random, craig david is from southampton :-S

  • All ways liked Kez we watched it at school some time in the eary 70s when it was still a new film, I was about 14. It reminds me off school as my school was just like Billys and all I had to look forward too was a life down the pit I did not want. I only worked down pit for 5 years though I was one of the lucky ones I got out just in time to see all the pits shut. :( :) Any way great film that takes me back to my youth in a mineing village. :) 10/10

  • damn.. thats just what life was like when i was growing up. We could get pissed up with 10 bob and still have enough left for fish an chips on the way home.

  • I thought 10 mins was the max limit for uploads ...

Oh well least it's not broken into parts like other films on here

  • @colintraveller not if they are a partner

  • @colintraveller Paid Youtube partners don't have any upload limit. Unless you are a Youtube partner (Which 99.9% of users are not) then you can't upload videos longer than 10 minutes.

  • @snoozeterminal lol :D

  • It's amazing that full films are on here!

  • Bloody hate

Casper's brother right sick psycho he was.

My dad told me tales how he got canned and such.

school was not much joy for me in high school it was a rough neck place.

  • aaah a regular cigarette factory aren't you

  • @snoozeterminal it's not courteous, it's unnecessary. people are free here to comment all they want on the film without worrying whether you've seen it or not. and they will continue to do so despite you're little whinge-session. you're simply being pissy because you're too impatient to wait and read the comments after you've watched the video. and i'm not interested in your opinion of the grainy, sepia, low-res photo of me in giant headphones and hair pinned back.

  • annither great Ken Loach filim. I read a book about the cast called ''Life after Kes'' which was really good.

  • Nice 'fuck off' picture.

  • I'm older then 21! :L

  • The guy singing the song in the bar makes faces just like Lee Evans

  • @AlbiTheRacistDragon6 Dude I thought the saaaame thing! Total Lee Evans right there...

  • Wank film

  • @WildCardCal i hope tha dunt its got small boys in it,

  • adverts? grrr.

  • gay

  • brings back memorys of english lessons back in the 70s great film

  • u can see his ball sack :L and his tiny todger

  • Incredible film, I love the the football scene its fantastic, takes me straight back to the time, love the creation of the two teams and the reality of the players left waiting to be picked, the lads chatting, not that interested in the game, the multi-assorted football kits, and Brian 'Bobby Charlton' Glover, genius. What a film, one of the best ever.

  • my uncle directed this film tony garnett :)

  • @jumpbiker333

I think you'll find Ken Loach directed it. Tony Garnett helped adapt the book into screenplay.

  • Whats the crack here then? i paid 12 bob for the DVD but i can watch it on my computer for free!!

  • a great little film, not seen this for years.

  • WTF!? I watched this for 1 hour and 46 minutes waiting for Craig David to appear. Don't waste your time, he is not fucking in it.

  • @jeffrey44 is he fuck in it LMAO!!

  • brilliant

  • go on kez!

  • brilliant film its interesting to see how life was like back in them days

  • Remember the first time i watched this well 1 hour 46 mins and 35 seconds well spent.

  • Filmmaking at its peak - yes, but A Clockwork Orange and Withnail and I are a different class.

  • I remember this film, but I'll never know why we were watching it in a sociology class!

  • one of my favouites

  • anybody of that era knows exactly what KEN LOACH was trying 2 achieve by making this classic. we know who we are.!!. especialy the P.E. SEG.. happy days indeed. tough but happy days. then he follows it up with RIFF RAFF. pure quality, THANK YOU KENNETH LOACH.

  • All time fav film *****

  • Bring back the cane.

  • 36:20 and few seconds fter that makes me happy, albeit fleetingly

  • @snoozeterminal hardman? firstly, i'm not a man. secondly, i'm making a valid point and that's your response? i think any intelligent person can see that it's pretty fucking stupid to read the comments before watching the film. everyone knows people talk about the film in the comments.

  • This film was made in 1969, the Thatcher Creature didn't get into power until 1979. I recall people thinking they were going to do something progressive by voting her in. She didn't do much for women in 10 years despite being the first (and maybe the last for a long time) PM.

  • reminds me of bo selecta

  • Thanks for posting this film, we all get richer

  • british film makin at its best. those poor lads actually got cained for real and got paid extra for each take it took to get it right-ouch!

  • @drewbdrew33 I went to the bloody Christian Brothers and got the cane and leather regular. When I looked at this I thought it looked way too real. Figured they must have just had the actors get really caned! Strange though when you think back to how it was considered the norm. They probably were'nt even paid that much extra. These days there's hell to pay if you make an animal merely uncomfortable on a film set:)

  • @mogadishusneeze I doubt they were really caned in the film, it wasn't a real life documentary fgs

  • @NikkiClo Well I was referring to the comment of the other guy who maintained that they had been paid extra for authentic caning.

"It wasn't a real life documentary fgs".... Do you have a degree in stating the obvious or something?

  • hah KES! we wtached this in schoool.. and found it disturbing how pedophillic the PE (gym) teacher is..

  • ADVERTS!!??

  • Seen this film so many times in GCSE English xD

  • @ToutSniff

we're watching a bunch of mgm films too. james bond though lol

  • @ToutSniff

same but for me it was back in 2000

  • Quite possibly the best British film ever made.

  • We watched this in school

  • nice rear-naked chokehold at 58:20

  • Our school watched this in a theatre. IT was long, and it didnt help since they added another scene.

  • better than over hyped 3d shit show avatar

  • My grandfather, Colin Welland is in this film. He's the teacher.

  • @mrsparckle - and you young man, should be rightly proud of that fact! Wonderful film

  • dingles haha

  • c'mon kes c'mon kes y bastud

    its craaaaaaaig david

  • @SEECH7 - Nice one! 'Spose everyone has to have an influence from somewhere

  • i always liked this film. doesnt get boring.

  • one of the best books i ever read, it reminds me of home.

  • brilliant. every time i watch it, it brings back great memories of growing up in barnsley. running down sarah anne street and onto john edward street 5.09 minutes in. the end house on the right and side is the place i was born. looking at it now-what a dump lol

  • it swoop down here like real fast

  • ohhhh i studied this for GCSE English Literature!!
