  • omg... take a look at 1:25

  • at 4:52 the Skies open and Heavenly Light caresses everything :)

  • I saw her 4 days ago in Vienna: the Final scene of Capriccio was breathtaking.

  • Absolutely - she owns the Countess do you not think?

Also so nice as a person - she was so patient with everyone backstage, and autographed my programme.

  • @Tuperatacu i saw her in vienna in June in this role! You are right! She´s just breathtaking in that role!

  • Perfectiion - that touching, introspective middle scetion was masterfully executed - I'm seeing Fleming perform this role in Vienna on Sunday - looking forward to it SO MUCH!

  • Hi there. Please let me know how the Sunday performance was. I saw her in this at the MET a couple weeks ago, and she was simply fantastic. She constantly amazes me in the fact that she gets better with age...much like te Kanawa. Thanks.

  • She was AMAZING!!!! Wrung tears out of me! To hear that voice come at your body is one of life's highlights, no?

And Flening wins any contest against te Kanawa - she communicates more effectively on top of that beautiful, creamy, earthy, heavenly voice!

  • I know exactly how your feel. Nearly every time I am in New York, I get the chance to speak with her. Her earthiness is unbelievable. I sometimes have to remind myself that I am in the presence of a human being. I simply can't believe that she can make such heavenly musical sounds and still be an ordinary woman.

  • Renee simply can do no wrong. She is by far the world's greatest soprano. At nearly 50 years old, she is at her absolute peak, and is singing better than ever. I was her at the MET opening a couple of weeks ago, and am still amazed, especially in the Capriccio. I also got the chance to talk to her at the reception afterwards at length, and there is not a diva bone in her body. I don't think she actually knows how incredible she is.

    Brava Renee!

  • It's always interesting to hear different people singing the same pieces and it is highly subjective as to who is better- for me in Strauss- it's Te Kanawa, Schwarzkopf, Isokoski, Fleming and Norman. This is a beautiful performance and Fleming has vocal splendour and golden tones but she ought to sing with a little less indiscretion. I feel she tends to swell too much in some of her notes but this is a minor matter in view of such vocal beauty. Brava

  • Gundula Janowitz: great singer, yes - but sorry to say, no low register, and weak medium range, so her Vier letzte Lieder are far, really far from being satisfactory. But I repeat, splendid artist but not in a repertoire requiring a full, round medium range and secure incursions into the lower range of the instrument.

  • I was discussing sopranos, past and present, with some opera directors and conductors, e.g., comparing their voices, in particular in Richard Strauss' "Capriccio" and "Four Last Songs." We all agreed that, after having heard Gundula Janowitz' peecise, pure, golden voice, all subsequent sopranos have been descernably less satisfying, no matter how popular they are among current audiences.

  • I don't like the way Renee sings a lot of things, but I will admit that she's always brilliant in Strauss and Mozart.

  • i dont think anyone has ever or soon again sing Straussian's melodies such as the one beggining in 4 55 as divinely as Fleming.

  • KIRI TE KENAWA...lol..I mean are you kidding? There is Feicity Lott, Kiri Te Kenawa..and let's not mention Lisa Della Casa or Pilar Lorengar!!!

  • besides Kiri Te Kanawa are u kidding me with all the rest 3rd class singers u mention ? :)) Also Tsoutsa Moutsa has sung this... you know her?

  • 3rd rate?...Not a vocal connoisseur...Happy New Year to you too..

  • no just your expectations beggin from very low. U probably have no idea what separates a great voice from any other. Happy year to you too!

  • I do have an idea...lol...I will not comment on Ms. Fleming's vocal traditions but simply to say she has said many many times there are those before her who have done much more wonderful things with her repertoire so hey, she said it....I didn't!!!I trust you are a singer and your opinion is based on firmer things than your stereo and sight preference.

  • stunning!

  • Stunning!! Thankyou for posting!! Although i think the year may have been 2006

  • Stunning! wow! What a beauty she is, too!
