when i saw it first i didn't get it, but now it just makes totally sense.. effie is just talking about her life and tony's. her parents always blame tony for everything bad that happens.. which it's not fair 'cause he is trying to help effie.. she realizes that and decides to help him back. Tony is often a jerk but he is really careful wih effie, he always help her not to get caught, what is very nice.. he is a really good brother
