...his natural playing style is a better match to this Haydnesque Beeth. than it is to Chopin...yet I would have liked it more "juiced"...more Beethovenian "drama" and "wit" sparking out of things...
His playing makes my heart go pitter-patter... dang! His technique is so good and the dynamics are so appropriate! Bah! I'm jealous of his playing and in love with it at the same time! Mixed feelings here!
this is so discouraging. I've been working really hard on this piece for quite some time. and it doesnt merely sound as beautiful as this does. im supposed to perform it soon. it will be a joke if they heard this first.
I just saw him play this song live a few days ago.. I don't really like classical music but Rafal is a man who is so much fun to watch i couldnt help but be at the front of my seat enjoying every minute of his performance. Oh and he played this song, it was if possible even better than this rendition.
Yess!!!! I do agree!!!!! I love the music he selects. Do find me a hard one to impress, as it is a strong reputation of mine when it comes to music. Such talent is to be awed at regardless of the filming. Just to know he played this...
I have to say, such understanding of the composer's expression reincarnated by his hands.

wow, Rafal is so musical - his playing is quite beautiful - much more so than many contemporary pianists. Worried about his technique though - it's obvously very good, but the handful of greatest pianists ever have superlative musicality AND technique and im not sure his technique is strong enough (listen to the left hand figure - it's obviously weaker than the right hand one
this blechaz is a name to remeber .the best playing I've heard in a while. His Chopin mazurkas and etude floored me and now a thoughtful finely detailed thinking Beethoven.wow.He's got it all!

Very nice playing. But this is obviously a music video, finger-syncing to a studio recording, and not a live performance. Very disappointing that this is done and becoming so widespread.
Sorry, you are wrong. This was recorded in this room at this time. But Rafal played the piece three times; for video editing one whole audio take was choosed and the video takes were edited to the audio. So you have some video shots which are really live, and some are not, because they refer to the other takes.
This sonata has so many elements of the late Mozart sonatas. Beethoven was trying to develop his own style. This is the embryo of Beethoven's great sonatas. I hope that Rafal tackles the 32 sonatas 10 years later. By then, he will have more life experience to make it as good as Kempff and Brendel. Good playing, Rafal! You are already a virtuosic pianist. Next is to become one of the greatest pianist in the 21st century.
@wesmusic72 yes, the problem is that you don't become a great pianist, you are born one and your full potential can be seen already at a very young age. Listen for example to M. Argerich's playing at the age of ten (Schumann Concerto) and you can observe that she has developed physically but her talent was there inside her back then. Mr. Blechasz's playing however is extraordinarily good but it isn't great and you can see that this is pretty much everything he can give out of himself for piano.
I've been waiting to hear a Blechacz play something other than Chopin (which he does better than anybody else in my opinion btw) and he certainly didn't disappoint!
There is something in his sound and articualtion, what makes his playing close to the Richter's style. However I've never heard interpretation of this sonata by Richter, I think it would sound very similar

very interesting piece, it sounds so much like mozart

Funny, it sounds to me like early Beethoven. It's very much a scherzo, which I don't think Mozart wrote very often. Haydn maybe?
