While I agree with conix9 about the purple, I think its a great animation short. What's the trick to making the movements so smooth and fluid? Mine always comes out jerky. Please check out my claymation. The lighting and everything's awful, but its my first attempt.

For my more recent animations I use a mini dv panasonic camcorder, and I have always used Newplast plasticine.

If you pause the video whilst the splash is happening then you can see that I have made loops of plasticine that I have moved outwards and then split into different sections over each frame.

Do you physically turn the camera on and off? and how many shots do you use for the jumping bit at 0:28? Also how much do you paint each time at 0:58? Sorry for so many questions. This is amazing and I really want to have a go!

I use a program which allows me to click on a "capture frame" button that takes a photo and places them in order.

I painted about a half centimeter for each frame at 0:58

I've never had that problem-- my camera's awesome. But still I notice filming animations at night works the best because there's no natural light coming in from the windows.

Nice work man. Very original -- 5 stars. Lighting's an issue though. I assume you photographed this during the day. What I do is I block off my windows so no natural light can come in and use good lamps if I shoot during the day. I recommend shooting at night.

well as it was my art exam it had to be done in the classroom, i did block of a window and had my own light supply. However the thing causing the flickery quality is the cameras white balance adjusting as i put my hand in shot, it doesnt normaly do it this much but the setting had reset for some reason. I would have tried to edit the occasional frame but as I only had 8 hours for the whole thing i didnt really have time : )

Not that many frames show the purple spreading, also i wish i had made it a lighter coloured purple, it overwhelms the other colours. but oh well :)
