If you recall, in the story, Snake is the one who left Meryl after their 6 month relationship and disappeared for almost 10 years. Then when they reunited after all that time, Snake brushed her off every time she tried getting close to him.
I'm not saying that he never loved her, but that's what happened. Meryl got dumped, and was later able to move on. Personally I think Snake wanted her to move on.

Otacon lives in MGS1, if he died, then he wouldn't be in MGS2 and 4. Besides, Meryl and Otacon are both in MGS4. =) When Snake and Meryl make it out of the tunnel and Liquid dies, Roy calls him and Snake explains that someone needs to get Otacon. That's how Otacon lives... =D
@KyokoFujita The only issue i have is that having both Meryl and Otacon okay would mean that the Meryl ending in MGS1 is assumed correct? however in MGS2 snake started with the Stealth camo, which you got from Otacon with his ending in MGS1, in which Meryl dies...The only explanation would be that they either had both endings to MGS1 happen at once, or they took Meryl's ending and Otacon gave Snake the camo later on anyway...

im a noob when it comes to mgs story i only beat 4, and i know big boss is the orginal snake and that his name is john and that he had clones or children which came out to be solid snake and liquid. how is it that snake is so young in mgs 1 and 2 but in 4 his old is it some aging process did he die and get cloned again any help?
Well Snake was born in June 12, 1972 (June 12 just like MGS4's realease date). That means that in MGS1 (2005) he was 33 year old. In MGS2 which is like 2 years later he is 35 but looks like if was on his early 40s. Now in MGS4 it happens in 2014 which means he was really 42 but he looks like if he was on his late 50s/early 60s, which is okay.

I think the reason why Snake left her is because he developed a more parental relationship towards Meryl than a lover. He was a mentor to her but Meryl wanted him to be more. I guess he felt that it wasn't right to use her like that and he left before it got even more complicated.

Epic, brought a tear to my eye. I love the story lines in mgs1. I have yet to beat mgs4 so I cant judge it yet. Of the other two the next best story line to mgs1 is mgs3 then mgs2.

@Betrce77 its in the MGS and part of the main story ( what happened to Raiden between the end of MGS 2 to the start of MGS4 ) but its not as stealth based and theres no snake. It looks amazing though!

They should've at least decided to let Meryl take care of Snake until he passes away instead of Octagon, and not have her marry Mr. Shitty Booty. It would have been neat to see snake get injected with the genes Naomi and Vamp had to turn back young or something so He could've married Meryl instead of that dissapointing scene I ALWAYS skip when I play the game. I can't believe I anticipated Meryl and Snake being reuniting after so many years just to watch her marry a guy who whines and SHITS.

I think in MGS4 they are just trying to phase Snake out. I personally think its fucking gay, Snake = legendary awesome. To replace him with raiden would instantly make me lose interest in the franchise, seeing as raiden seems like a guy youll see on bourbon st taking dicks in the ass for beads.

They have their reasons and they arent phasing Snake out their letting raiden have his on game(notice the fact its called Metal Gear Rising not Metal Gear Solid 5) and Snake has Peace Maker coming out.... Snake isnt gone they are just letting the fans of Raiden have that character as a playable character

Dude it will never be the same, peace walker is coming out on a PSP which is sort of a side project for Hideo. Raiden is NOT cool in any way. He looks gay, sounds gay, I love how people are like Snake cant come back hes old blah bla it wouldnt make sense. But NONE of metal gear makes sense lol, for instance, Raiden cuts his arm off as a ninja but they miracously sew it back on and give him his body back after its known fact that Once you become a cyborg in metal gear your body is destroyed.

Some Konami dipshit explained away Meryl and Snake not getting together because "it was just flirting and that was it" or something like that, when quite clearly (as I literally just finished playing through MGS1 again) they were fricking in love! So the tool obviously doesn't even know what happened in the games!!

Yeah I read that, it was with Ryan Payton who got into the games industry because of MGS1. Well to come off with that shit he either has never actually finished it or only gets the Otacon/Snake ending....
They were clearly supposed to start a new life TOGETHER, so at the very least we should have been given a reason as to why that never happened!
I wish Johnny took a bullet in the head in MGS4 Act 3!

Solid snake and meryl should have got married in mgs 4 instead of johnny which was really awkward and it just doesnt seem right since snake has known and been with meryl longer. If only snake was younger in mgs 4 and didnt age so fast because of the way he was created.

He doesn't age because of nanos, who told you that? He is still gonna age fast because he is a clone. Period, nanos aren't bad, it's the way you use them not the way they make them, and has nothing to do with snake's aging.

im a noob when it comes to mgs story i only beat 4, and i know big boss is the orginal snake and that his name is john and that he had clones or children which came out to be solid snake and liquid. how is it that snake is so young in mgs 1 and 2 but in 4 his old is it some aging process did he die and get cloned again any help?

Well Snake was born in June 12, 1972 (June 12 just like MGS4's realease date). That means that in MGS1 (2005) he was 33 year old. In MGS2 which is like 2 years later he is 35 but looks like if was on his early 40s. Now in MGS4 it happens in 2014 which means he was really 42 but he looks like if he was on his late 50s/early 60s, which is okay.

I think the reason why Snake left her is because he developed a more parental relationship towards Meryl than a lover. He was a mentor to her but Meryl wanted him to be more. I guess he felt that it wasn't right to use her like that and he left before it got even more complicated.
Maybe Snake wasn't being a jerk but he was trying to save Meryl from confusion.

Epic, brought a tear to my eye. I love the story lines in mgs1. I have yet to beat mgs4 so I cant judge it yet. Of the other two the next best story line to mgs1 is mgs3 then mgs2.

The MGS4 footage used is from trailers/previews released before the game came out. Again- I say check the date.
MGS4 was released JUNE 12th of 2008. This video was posted like 4 months before that.

Meryl obviously still had feelings for Snake at the beginning of MGS4. It was he who kept pushing her away. The reason for that is up for debate but I'd say it's obvious that Snake also had feelings for her at one point, seeing as they were together for a few months. This video is a tribute to their relationship- It doesn't matter if they ended up together or not. However long it lasted, they did genuinely care for eachother
