@GUGregg From what I've seen on the TV, these air traffic controllers don't have so many flights on their screens that there would be any real chance of directing two flights, so similiarly numbered as 1529 and 1549, in a climb pattern at the same time. And just in case it happened, ATC gives instructions to another pilot who reports that Sully said he was going in the Hudson. That means the channel is overseen by a group of experienced pilots who can chime in with necessary corrective advice.
Dude, don't be a douche...The guy is a hero in my book. Does not matter how much training that you have. Some people could have all of the training in the world and still freeze up in a hot situation. Trust me. Some of the toughest guys I know with extensive training have done it right in front of me.

The controller's tone definitely changes. Even though indirectly, the controller believes the lives of those people were in his hands. All in all good job on the pilots part for staying calm and performing a spectacular landing. Good job on the controller for trying everything in his power to help and last but certainly not least good job on the New York Port Auth on the rapid response!!

Surprising that the pilot gets his flight number wrong (says 1539) and somehow the ATC hears 1529. It's like playing a dangerous game of telephone.

Not technically a hero. Remaining calm is what've been instructed to us. Panicking woudln't help. It will only restrict us from thinking properly.
