Yeah, you might notice that Gene Tierney is 1,084 times more sexier in her police interrogation than Sharon Stone is in her famous twat-flashing outing. Michael wants to bang Sharon-who wouldn't?" But you fall in LOVE with Laura!
Im watching Laura on Tv now, Gene Tierney was soooo beautiful, so elegant and just divine. Her eyes really captivate me and Im only 25! lol. Its true Hollywood stars 2day, although there r sum beauties out there, they just dont quite have that same elegance and quality as the old Hollywood greats.
@RaikenXion I've got Laura on DVD and watched it often. I think it is an excellent film. The entire cast is very good. I enjoy Dana Andrews, Clinton Webb, Vincent Price and Judith Anderson very much in this film. All great at acting. No only do we not, I my humble opinion, find faces like Gene on screen today, the way many stars today talk is not as elegant as they did then. I even like that B horror film House of Wax just so I can listen to Vincent Price pronounce words in the English language.
@boblackey1 I agree, people were more honorable, even noble back then, they had proper values, the only thing I think was abit of a problem about those times was how popular smoking was back then (obviously people didnt fully understand or consider the dangers to health smoking could cause), and the fact alot of these great stars of that time smoked and even made it look cool to do so. Other than that I think those were simpler and in alot of ways better times.
@RaikenXion Go to the search box above and type in "camels doctors" and watch some old TV commericals which bost that MORE DOCTORS SMOKE CAMELS THAN ANY OTHER CIGARETTE:=). Well Gene herself was a lifelong smoker and died at age 70 from lung disease. Vincent Price, also a smoker most of his life, died of the same lung problem as Gene but somehow managed to live to be very old. He was 82. I like Vincent Price at the end of Michael Jackson's title cut THRILLER. The credits say "rap by V. Price".
@boblackey1 I will check that out. And yes indeed quite sad that alot of the old Hollywood greats died of some sort of cancer mostly due to smoking, i guess that was the "in thing" then, kinda like these times, social drinking seems to be the mainstream 2day, well especially where Im from atleast. Yes Vincent Price is cool in MJ's Thriller video, he does all the narration. I liked his role as the Inventor in Ed Scisscor Hands. Its sad that there arnt any Iconic figures around anymore.
What an exquisitely beautiful actress. She also seemed like a genuinely nice person also. They just don't come along very often for sure, and her movies encompass quite a great quality of her work. I think her films will always endure-because of her. There was so much more to that charisma than her great beauty.
what's that movie called at 0:59 dangit i don't know the name of it because i saw it half way through the movie on tv lol and i fell in with it :] she's an amazing actress
she was married to oleg cassini the dress designer.her first child was blind and death because gene caught german measles while at the uso , she supported her whole family with her earnings. the poor dear went crazy in the end, couldn't recall her lines. she was a wonderful beautiful person inside and out. hollywood really discovered her. she went on a tour of the studios as a teenager, and her beauty , they offered her a screentest on the spot! get the dvd its got two commentaries and more.

It seems, that you are right! But that type of an actress today is not possible any more! Look on the ordinary people! I doubt, that they want to see such a great person like Gene Tierney!
Anything that is a thing of beauty is to be admired regardless of who is admiring, if it be a rose,a person or indeed a scene of natural beauty, a persons beauty shines from within, Gene had both which made Gene all the more admirable, dont you think.....
You're right. She wasn't a sex symbol like Rita Hayworth or Marilyn Monroe but unless mens have gone blind she certainly could drawn them to her wether it was on or off screen.
@Jewmy Agreed! i FEEL THE SAME WAY. We girls today have no role models for beauty, style, class, and acting. They got the Tierney's, Leighs, Stanwycks, and we get Jennifer Anniston and Angelina Jolie. Life is so unfair.

I wish I could find the still photo of Laura arriving at her cottage in her car. The print that Channel 13 occasionally shows doesn't have the scene, surprisingly. Considering the importance of when she arrived there and what she did over the weekend, etc., the deletion of the exotic roadster rolling up is odd. Is it a Bugatti? A Delahaye? It was a correct car for her!
I just finished monitoring and downloading 50 renditions of the theme song from Laura. From the haunting refrain, to Johnny Mercer's simple and silken lyrics, the song was adopted by all instrumentalists who desired to show off the emotional delicacy of their playing. This classic was recorded by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Mathis, Charlie "Bird" Parker, Dexter Gordon, Yehudi Menuhin & Stéphane Grappelli, Errol Gardner, Oscar Peterson, George Shearing, Bill Evans, and others.
Usually those smoking scenes are so silly, but Vincent Price looks genuinely nonchalant in that scene. Like he's in his own living room. He was an underrated actor in many respects I thought. I'd like to have seen him do more dramatic roles, than being pigeonholed into all the horror genre roles. Great match of song to movie clip. Best Laura version ever. Thanks.
oohyllab: Gawd YES! 'Leave Her to Heaven' was one her best! Simply *loved*
to *hate* her in that performance.
The 'stretch' Tierney made from her previous roles in "Laura" & "The Ghost & Mrs Muir" is what made her one of the best actresses ever! Simply proved that Gene Tierney wasn't just 'another beautiful face'! But - OH, what a *beautiful* face! The themesong,"Laura" *so* befits this amazing actress!
whthe: Great video of probably the most beautiful woman *ever*, Gene Tierney! Loved the clips from "Laura" & esp. those clips from "Leave Her To Heaven" (the most beautiful woman you love to hate). But, Ms Tierney 'had me' with "The Ghost And Mrs. Muir"!
Thanks for posting this haunting melody & the trip down memory lane to over & over again enjoy this amazingly beautiful woman & the equally timeless theme song.
She was a flawless beauty (and one of JFK's girlfriends) but there's something that's cold as ice about her. That is why roles like Laura and Leave Her To Heaven (as a murderess) suit her the best.
Smashing!! This, and Rebecca are the only ones left I really want to buy anymore. I have so many classics. Thanks for the wonderful post, with this haunting version of the theme song. It's a shame this Sinatra song couldn't have really been in it somewhere, replacing the old repetitive song. Very effective!! Thanks.
Was this song recorded for this movie, or just a coincidence? Franks' voice sounds a little different here! Gorgeous! Really cool movie. I just love it.
TheProvanClan; I'm *so* with U re Gene Tierney being the very best! But, I gotta tell ya, I think 'robtaylorhelicopter had Michelle Pfeiffer spot on as prob the *only* actress of today that compares to Gene Tierney with true beauty! It's those eyes! It's the impeccable flawless skin & their God-gifted amazing bone structure!
Tigerlily21: Wheuff! You're so right re Michelle Pfeiffer! Probably the 2nd most beautiful woman *ever*! Both were blessed with the greatest facial bone structure & captivating eyes. The only other would have 2/b Sophia Loren! Gene Tierney shall always remain #1 - probably due to music such as this, "Laura"!
My favorite movie since I'm 14 - she was the most beautiful actress and what a life ! Laura was the perfect movie, and I love Dana Andrews - it's good to find on the Internet other fans ! (ZANUCK was damn right)
That's a lovely, well-edited tribute. Nice job. What glamour and untouchable beauty. You captured her mystery well the way you put this together. Cheers.

Sadly, she battled with lengthy bouts of deep depression. Treatment included electric shock treatment, and, much to the delight of locals I would imagine, working the counter of a department store. Imagine that, nipping into a shop and being served by Gene Tierney. Dreams are made of lesser stuff.
An all time favourite film of mine. Gene Tierney was just gorgeous. Alongside Sinatras faultless interpretation of such a beautiful piece of music, this is very very special. We can wait around, but the likes of these will never come again.
I believe Vincent Price said something to the affect that when Gene Tierney came on the set he and other male actors could basically go home. All eyes were on her.
