the lingering sounds after playing a part of the melody gives people chills, and it sounds very Mafioso, since the Godfather composer Nino Rota, used mandolins to give it suspense and feeling. As CannonedAle said, the minor dissonance also contributes which makes the song very much "The Godfather". :)

I think the sound of the piano gives it the feel of piece played on a piano you would have at home. The home feeling has a kind of connection to one of The Godfather's central themes - family.

I think the minor dissonance caused by the pianos tuning adds TONS to this song. Lets be real, its been done a million times. who isnt captivated by the melody alone? I have never in my life liked a remix or another version of the original. But I cannot say why I liked this more, but I do... The chords are longer and more drowned out on this old piano. It seems to add a character and sense of melancholy to a song already so rich and full of the flavor of life. Like your looking at the surface from under the water. Sleepin' with the fishes.

Lol, it's a combination of both actually. I still have it but it's not playable anymore (I just lay things on top of it like a shelf, hehe), there's a LOT of missing keys (I recorded this a few years ago when all the keys were still there). I ended up replacing it with a digital piano.
