can someone PLEASE explain this movie to me. I know i didn't spend 2 hours of my life on something not worth watch. i simply didnt get it. so please someone tell me what the f*** i just saw.
@Yayakills lol it can't really be explained like that. I'll give you some tips though. First of all, it needs to be seen at least twice (it makes a lot more sense the more times you see it). Second, it's about life - think about your life as you watch it. Third, the mention of the book The Trial by Hazel near the beginning is a big clue (that's a book worth reading, similar to this film in a lot of ways).
One of this movie's many beauties is how it weaves moments of love and euphoria into what it otherwise a psychological horror film.
Also, my interpretation of this movie has shifted from several viewings in the theater in 2008 to several viewings recently on DVD now, three years later.
At first I identified with Caden. I still do, but now I am also horrified by him. And hope not to end up like him. Yikes.
Can anyone explain why the sound changes at 1:53:45? It sounds like there is a change in the audio levels of Ellen speaking to him in the microphone. What does that symbolize? It gets me every time I see that part. It then happens again at 1:53:50 when he stands up. Any ideas?
@questionsleadtotruth i believe that signifies the p assage of a long stretch of time. the voice is less clear after each stretch, because Caden has aged and his world has deteriorated, as signified by not just the fuzzier connection to the voice in his ear but also the increasingly chaotic outside world.
You are unbelievably awesome for uploading this! Thank you so much! (I don't get people asking for other titles & subtitles; give a mouse a cookie & he's gonna want a glass of milk!)
@Metaldude1231 Actually YouTube just gave me the feature back without me realizing it, but since Universal owns the movie they'd remove it and possibly close my account. I could if I would though :P
@ahappykitten My father died. They said his body was riddled with cancer and that he didn't know, he went in because his finger hurt. They said he suffered horribly, and that he called out for me before he died. They said that he said he regretted his life. They said he said a lot of things, too many to recount, and they said it was the longest and the saddest deathbed speech any of them had ever heard.
Thank you so much for posting this! Best movie of all time.

Not into psychological angst movies, but Hoffman is a great genius of an actor in every movie and part he portrays.
