does anybody know anything about Ozone surfboards ? I have a 8'2 X 22" foam/glass and it is sweet. I think it may be a rare board, I can't find anything about it anywhere ?
It's amazing how little people know. Here are some facts.
The term fiberglass means nothing. Its like saying my cake is made from flour. Duh! Of course it is.
Epoxy and polyester boards BOTH use Fiberglas. Here is the breakdown. A foam core (polyurethane "pu" or polystyrene "eps") a resin (polyester or epoxy) and the cloth (usually fiberglass). You can make a board using pu or eps by hand, by machine or from a mold. It makes no difference. A "pop out" can be a pu blank and polystyrene resi
the way to go is definitely hand shaped epoxy... I have a Rusty Slayer 5'10" in epoxy/eps and it rides like any other polyester/pu boards out there, it turns on a dime and handles size just like a poly board would. so it all depends on the quality of the board and the dimensions, if you like a poly board, but want the epoxy durability, order it a little bit thinner and you should be living the dream. Rusty is great at this, bear in mind i'm not sponsored by or work for Rusty. I'm just a client.
I surf on both boards and the Epoxy is definitely easier to paddle and catching unbroken waves is also easier. Fiberglass is better for maneuvering on the waves such as turning. Overall, I would use epoxy. The only issue is that epoxy boards bubble when left in the sun.
this guys a kook....and im selling a brand new 6'0 rusty "dozer" if anyones interested..it's a real pulled in squash similair to the dumpster diver of channel islands it's by 19 2 and a quarter
I had 6'2" epoxy and fibreglass boards which were near identical. Always felt like the epoxy went slower and also the fins were specific to the board, and were poor quality (bottom turns were poor)-left my epoxy in the azores for when I go there, but I would never by an epoxy for my regular board. There is a good reason that these more durable and often cheaper boards are not dominating the market
there lots of variation on the epoxy/fibreglass boards now (e.g. fibreglass sandwiched in epoxy)
@advenger32 buy a shortboard, longboarding is wayyyy more slow and mellow. shortboards allow you to rip up the wave and and the amount of tricks you can do on a shortboard far exceeds any longboard out there. just take the time and learn on a shortboard and you wont have to try and sell your used longboard when youre bored with it!
You can use polyester resin or epoxy resin on fiberglass mat.
Epoxy resin can be used in small quantities indoors, but polyester stinks and has health issues. Epoxy on fiberglass is stronger than polyester on fiberglass for the same weight.
"Expertvillage" my ass. You don't even know what boards are made of. The majority of boards built with epoxy resin have at least one layer of FIBERGLASS. Calling a board "fiberglass" is totally stupid. fvckin KOOKS!!!
what's he talking about???? epoxy is lighter, stronger, doesn't smell when working it, this guy is on drugs. Give me an eps with epoxy any day. Flex??? what flex.
What the F#@#$.What he meant to say is that EPS boards do not flex like a PU,thus a stiff corky ride.Surfers rely on flex to get them in and out of turns.That is why PU is still king.EPS is almost there,but 100 dollars aboard more.Resin X is the answer!!!!!!
Resin X. my friend Yes nice point they are, but there is a new resin out that can make EPS flex like PU.Shaping EPS is a pain in the ass.I don't like it yet.Maybe I never wil.Epoxy is for yuppies and kooks good one.Now that I think about it you may be right lol
how old is this video? Those old pop-out type epoxies are still around because of their durability for travelers, but hand shaped eps epoxy boards are pretty much standard now
What a crock of shit, I just got my new epoxy board, hand shaped, none of this machine shit, the quality if epoxy is much higher then that of fibreglass now, many shapers use cheap glass, and it cracks and dings, much quicker compared to that of other glassed boards, also the type of board you get is determined by how you surf, not just looks and durability.
if u havnt surfed much url want sumthing a litle bigger for learning urd probly want a 6''0 ft board or mayb bigger and with quite abit of width just while ur learning, url learn faster on a bigger board getn ur balance and stuff sused
pllease i need help i got a softy 8ft board... bran new cause im a beginner at surfin and i paid mostly every cent of my alouance. But somehow ther is a tiny hole. not even like a half ring. on the nose. Will that affect my board or is it broke or anything... How can i fix it :.(
Do you know if fiberglass (or epoxy) is an acceptable material to use for making a custom storage tank for alcohol? I would like to build a 5-gallon fermenter for making beer.
not quite that big, go with something about 2 feet taller than you, maybe 1 and a half if your super duper skinny or 2 and a half if you really, well, fat
Actually fiberglass surfboards are made using either epoxy or polyester. It consists out of thin layers fiberglass with epoxy or polyester between it. This is a process called hand laminating...
how tall are you how much do you weigh have you ever surfed before? typically funboards are the way to go but if like a shortboard template get something like 6'8-7'2 wider in the 19-21 range and a bit thicker from 2 5/8-3" hope this helps
I'd go with the epoxy, they are more stable, easier to ride, and they don't get damaged easily. They won't turn fast though... if you're a casual surfer, epoxy is the way to go
Epoxy appears to be the best. Dont count on sales people to keep you "informed" about high priced surfboards. Ask the people on the beach that actually look like they know how to surf - that is where you will get the truth.
i have an eposy and fiberglass but some asshole dropped in on my and dinged my epoxy so now it has a hole and i went to go talk to his dad and he wouldnt listen or offer any money to help pay for it and its 50 to repair and im only 14 parents need to teach there kids surf etiqute
Plz help what board is the epoxy one?

I'm a beginner surfer. Which type should I choose, epoxy or fiberglass? (I already know the size I need.)
I'll be riding small Norcal waves, so I won't get thrown around too much, but I want to be safe. Which kind would be best for a beginner? Thanks!!!

Fibreglass vs. Epoxy?.. It's fibreglass in the epoxy as well..

You know little and talk too much about what you don't know.
Like your tipical used car sales man...
Lots of bull.
Epoxy boards can be handshaped or can be the molded type.
Polyester boards can be handshaped or molded as well, but few are
Almost ALL well known shapers offer more than one construction type;
among this: *polyester resin&polyurethane blank your standard since the 60's
*epoxy/eps handshaped
*epoxy molded like the ones made in Asia(finnish paint &color on the outside)

His Vocabulary is off?
EPS vs PU
EPS = Expanded Poly Styrene
PU = Poly Urethane
You can glass either one in Epoxy Resin
EPS can only be glassed in Epoxy Resin
Polyester Resin can not be used on EPS
Both boards are milled on a CNC machine.

I'm getting a new surfboard...
But I"m not sure what size I am.
I've really only surfed with my dad's.
But I don't have a clue what his size is.
I"m not big at all.
5 foot.
and I don't weigh much if that even matters.
Any help on picking one out?
