I like Lawson more he's my fav player but i liked Ray also when he was at unc. As of right now Felton is better but give Lawson a couple more years and he can pass him.
It's definitely Raymond Felton, more of an all-around talented basketball player and prolly a 2nd tier PG in the L. Ty Lawson got great speed but it kinda stops there. He is more of a sparkplug, inconsistent shooting and not as versatile as Raymond.
Raymond will prolly be a starter for the majority of his NBA career and put solid stats. Ty Lawson will prolly s remain as 6 man type of player and primary backup PG on the bench....So overall, Felton edges Lawson a little bit.
while chauncey billups was injured last year and ty lawson started, he averaged 17 points and 6 assists. that was for like 8 games, so a starting role would prove to be AT LEAST a 15/5 year, which is pretty good for a PG. hes learning from chauncey, and when chauncey retires, lawson will be more than ready to take over the denver PG position. he shot over 50% from the field and 40% from the three point line last year. amazing potential. go denver!

I doubt they would blow them out, but I think it is possible.

The core group of 2009 always struggled somewhat against as equal athletic teams such as 2008 Kansas. May would score at will on Hansbrough and McCants would have posted up and scored on Ellington at will. Lawson may ahve the slight advantage over Felton. But 2005 UNC had more athletic supporting cast than 2009 UNC.

I have been watching ACC basketball for almost thirty years and I can honestly say Hansbrough is nowhere close to the greatest ACC player ever. Tyler played a full four seasons in a weak and watered down ACC era anyway which helped to pad his stats. Worthy, Sampson, Bias, Laettner and Duncan were better overall players. I like Tyler but he is not in the league as the all time ACC greats. The best undisputed ACC player ever is David Thompson anyway.
Also just because someone is the all time scoring leader (especially in a weak era) does not mean they would dominate a match up one on one against everybody. Sean May in his prime the last part of his junior year would score on Tyler at will and also he would defend Tyler well do to his size and rebounding skills. Tyler always struggled against bigger more athletic men.

I'd give the slightest and I mean the slightest of an edge to Ray, but that's just more of a personal preference for his playmaking skills as an assist guy. I think they were equal as scorers and in ability to step on the gas and get to the rim at will. Both mediocre shooters early on who became quite reliable by the end of their careers.
Big ups to you on getting Raymonds playing days at Latta HS. He was a superstar in HS. His games used to sell out fast. over a thousand ppl always got turn back because the gym was full to the max. Kids used to cry, adults were mad. They all wanted to see Raymond. When he played my school and beat them, ppl rush to get his autograph. LOL

Felton and Lawson HAD TO SCORE but he didnt and thats why his PPG was always low until his senior year when he HAD to score some because everyone left. IMO felton was not better hands down than Lawson.

Um exactly wat do you mean by athletic? a sprinter is athletic but so is a wrestler. Do you mean just vertical? B/c lawson has better speed. The difference in the two is that felton is a point guard that is/can be a scoring point guard and lawson is a one man offense that is/can be a point guard if that makes sense. Don't know who has more passion b/c felton didnt have to battle wit a toe injury sooo who knows. They both help us win so I love em both.

Ty shot a higher 3 pt %, avg. more points, more steals, had pretty much the same amount of assists, and emerged as a GREAT leader. I love Ray, too, but i think Ty's better
Ty may be a better scorer, but he doesn't play half the defense, literally, if that. Forget the steals stat, you can be a bad defender and rack up steals. I love Ty, but he got absolutely destroyed by Teague, Vasquez and Rice this season. Ray doesn't get lit up like that by anyone, not even inthe pros. He's not a gambler, so the steals may not be there, but Hollinger put him in the top 6 defensive PGs in the NBA. Ty may be a little better on offense, but not enough to make up the defensive gap
They both won the Bob Cousy Award(top PG in the nation) and were both robbed of getting the NCAA Championship MVP, which they both deserved. Ty won ACC POY, but would he have if JJ Redick and Chris Paul were his competition? No.
Ty def. got robbed of the MVP of the final four. However, Sean May completely deserved the final four MVP easily. He went insane in the tourney that year.
Sean put up the stats, but we all know who the MVP was. Without Sean, Marvin would have developed and they would have contended for a title. Without Felton they got beat double digits by Santa Clara. Without him, the offense didn't operate at all, Sean would have barely scored.

more experience? you have to look at them both at their stages of their careers. Felton whent to the NIT his Freshman year, lost int he second round of the NCAA to Texas the next, then his Junior season won it all. Ty went to the Elite Eight his Freshman year, final four his sophomore, and finally National Champion his third.
If you looking based on both being juniors, Lawson was the more dominant player during his time.
as much as i like lawson and how much he grew this past year, i still think he's not close to felton's level.felton had better half court handles and was ableto use spin moves to slash to the basket better, and his vision is better than lawson's, jump shot's still better, and finishingat the basket still slightly better. the main thing that lawson does a little better than felton is that he's still quicker end to end,but even then not by a lot. i'm lucky to have been able to see both whilat unc.

Look its easy to assume he was the best player on the team because of the Santa Clara game, but if we had even a half way good point guard we win that game. I would put McCants and May as better as far as being the dominate force on the team and Ray was valuable as far as he was the only point guard worth putting on the floor!

We all are Tar Heels here and I can safely say we love both guys! I just have to wait and see can Ty alone with Tyler and the rest of them will us to a championship like Ray did. Have we all forgot the steals and the big three's this guy took in the title game to help us? He was playing against two of the top point guards in the country and both was on the same team,and not to mention Luther Head! Ray is top dog till someone knocks him off in my book!
I watched ray play in high school and have had the opportunity to attend UNC while Lawson has played here. Both are amazing PG's. I would have agreed with you last year and at the beginning of this year. However, Lawson has matured this year and shown he has the ability to step up when the team needs it, illustrating he deserves to be POY. Watch him carry the Heels to the championship!

I personally feel if UNC finishes this year's run off correct then it is safe to say Lawson, if nothing more was statisticly better, a better long range shooter, and less turnover prone in college...that said I believe Lawson will not be the NBA player that Felton is and is becoming. Just think Felton athlete ability creates a higher ceiling than Lawson has.

I'd give the slightest and I mean the slightest of an edge to Ray, but that's just more of a personal preference for his playmaking skills as an assist guy. I think they were equal as scorers and in ability to step on the gas and get to the rim at will. Both mediocre shooters early on who became quite reliable by the end of their careers.

Big ups to you on getting Raymonds playing days at Latta HS. He was a superstar in HS. His games used to sell out fast. over a thousand ppl always got turn back because the gym was full to the max. Kids used to cry, adults were mad. They all wanted to see Raymond. When he played my school and beat them, ppl rush to get his autograph. LOL

Kenny Smith (TNT) was better than BOTH of them! National Player of the Year while at UNC!!! The GREATEST pg ever at Carolina however was PHIL FORD! Bet that up! Do your research. Find video. He was UNSTOPPABLE! And would be the same if he played in the 2000s like Ty and Ray. Unfortunately drugs and alcohol tarnished his pro career. Bad boy though! Cold beast. Felton and Lawson HAD TO SCORE but he didnt and thats why his PPG was always low until his senior year when he HAD to score some because everyone left. IMO felton was not better hands down than Lawson.

Anyone who says Ed Cota sucked knows exactly SHIT. Hands down the best handles at UNC. Felton and Lawson were just faster but when it came to dribbles and passing the rock felton and Lawson couldnt touch him. Dont get me wrong. IM not saying Felton and Lawson didnt have handles but they were more of the scoring type and thats why people say they are better.

Um exactly wat do you mean by athletic? a sprinter is athletic but so is a wrestler. Do you mean just vertical? B/c lawson has better speed. The difference in the two is that felton is a point guard that is/can be a scoring point guard and lawson is a one man offense that is/can be a point guard if that makes sense. Don't know who has more passion b/c felton didnt have to battle wit a toe injury sooo who knows. They both help us win so I love em both.

Ty handles the ball well, but Ray excels in more areas then Ty. They are both insane though =P

everybody gets ripped sometimes, even ty. Not everyone has their opponent career it on them on numerous occasions like Ty did. I love Ty, but your homerism is making me point out the negatives. He isn't the all around player Ray is. They were close offensively with Ty being a little better shooter and finisher, Felton was/is lightyears better on the defensive end. Tougher player, more reliable, better leader. Gotta give the overall edge to Felton.

what are you talking about, dude? Most well educated carolina fans admit that Lawson is probably better than Raymond. Raymond has his # honored, and Ty's going to have his # honored. Ty's junior season was possibly the greatest season an ACC PG has had in 30 years. is A/TO ratio was phenomenal, Raymonds was not. Ty shot a higher 3 pt %, avg. more points, more steals, had pretty much the same amount of assists, and emerged as a GREAT leader. I love Ray, too, but i think Ty's better

Ty may be a better scorer, but he doesn't play half the defense, literally, if that. Forget the steals stat, you can be a bad defender and rack up steals. I love Ty, but he got absolutely destroyed by Teague, Vasquez and Rice this season. Ray doesn't get lit up like that by anyone, not even inthe pros. He's not a gambler, so the steals may not be there, but Hollinger put him in the top 6 defensive PGs in the NBA. Ty may be a little better on offense, but not enough to make up the defensive gap

They both won the Bob Cousy Award(top PG in the nation) and were both robbed of getting the NCAA Championship MVP, which they both deserved. Ty won ACC POY, but would he have if JJ Redick and Chris Paul were his competition? No.

Sean put up the stats, but we all know who the MVP was. Without Sean, Marvin would have developed and they would have contended for a title. Without Felton they got beat double digits by Santa Clara. Without him, the offense didn't operate at all, Sean would have barely scored.

more experience? you have to look at them both at their stages of their careers. Felton whent to the NIT his Freshman year, lost int he second round of the NCAA to Texas the next, then his Junior season won it all. Ty went to the Elite Eight his Freshman year, final four his sophomore, and finally National Champion his third.
If you looking based on both being juniors, Lawson was the more dominant player during his time.

as much as i like lawson and how much he grew this past year, i still think he's not close to felton's level.felton had better half court handles and was ableto use spin moves to slash to the basket better, and his vision is better than lawson's, jump shot's still better, and finishingat the basket still slightly better. the main thing that lawson does a little better than felton is that he's still quicker end to end,but even then not by a lot. i'm lucky to have been able to see both whilat unc.

I've been on here and stated That I'd take Raymond Felton over Ty Lawson. But I have changed my mind a bit. Ty has proving he can lead a team and be the best player on the floor. He has done one thing Ray has never done in his career at UNC and that's be the best player on the team hand down. That's saying something especially when you are playing arguably with the greatest UNC player of all time in Tyler H. Love them both but Ty is the better point guard!!!

Look its easy to assume he was the best player on the team because of the Santa Clara game, but if we had even a half way good point guard we win that game. It wasn't anyone on the level of even Bobby Fraser on that team and in fact Bobby came in and started over a So Q! I would put McCants and May as better as far as being the dominate force on the team and Ray was valuable as far as he was the only point guard worth putting on the floor!

Well when we say who's better we are talking about as far as in UNC system! Ty was far and away the best player on UNC team this year and that's saying a lot seeing that Tyler was on this team. Name a time when Raymond was far and away this good? NO and I mean NO ONE could check this kid when he was clicking and as good as Raymond was he was never this good in college. Tyler wasn't consistent in scoring points this year, in other words, he got shut down alot of times. MJ, Atwan, Phil, & Hubert never got shut down at UNC. Tyler wasn't even the best player on this team, it was Ty Lawson.

There have only been 3 points guards in history to be named ACC POY and Ty is one of them. Ty has a higher scoring and assist to turnover ratio than Raymond. Also, Ty has twice as many no turnover games as Raymond. I gotta go with Ty

Well the one thing you can see on these clips are that Raymond is way more athlete than Ty. Ty has him on assist to turnover but Raymond has the winning drive of a champion . And until Ty proves me wrong and win it all for us ill feel the same . But we get to admit Ty is on one of if not the best UNC team in a long time and we should win it all this year!!

We all are Tar Heels here and I can safely say we love both guys! I just have to wait and see can Ty alone with Tyler and the rest of them will us to a championship like Ray did. Have we all forgot the steals and the big three's this guy took in the title game to help us? He was playing against two of the top point guards in the country and both was on the same team,and not to mention Luther Head! Ray is top dog till someone knocks him off in my book!

I watched ray play in high school and have had the opportunity to attend UNC while Lawson has played here. Both are amazing PG's. I would have agreed with you last year and at the beginning of this year. However, Lawson has matured this year and shown he has the ability to step up when the team needs it, illustrating he deserves to be POY. Watch him carry the Heels to the championship!

I personally feel if UNC finishes this year's run off correct then it is safe to say Lawson, if nothing more was statisticly better, a better long range shooter, and less turnover prone in college...that said I believe Lawson will not be the NBA player that Felton is and is becoming. Just think Felton athlete ability creates a higher ceiling than Lawson has.
Love 'em both, but Lawson is the better college pg, Felton, NBA.
