  • Quit crying and ... DON'T WATCH IT .... EINSTEINS

  • new kind of diplomacy ..this is new ..maybe this is the future of diplomacy after all

  • excellent talk - very interesting

  • @unapologeticmind: my brother. I do not know the guy in the video. I know my share of the planet Earth. I try to keep balance. happy new yea[e]volution

@the guy in the video: I want a job at your institution. as a janitor.

@world from everyone: we are ready for you to talk about PAX ROMANA, EU's Galileo Project, The Pope, The Orthodox [sunworshipers Jew man, our evolution. I am calm

    La multi ani!

    R

pps: influence the moment and not the man

  • a great video, I especially liked the description of his 'red pill matrix moment'. That time in life when all you believed in is turned on it's head and you have to choose between living a lie or finding a new direction... can be painful but is ultimately extremely rewarding

  • I love his hair O_O

  • AMAZING!

  • Wow, great talk. Too bad this didn't exist when the ANC was 'ending' apartheid; who knows what would have happened?

  • a charmed life

  • So he went from someone we should kill to some one we should all worship.

    lmao

  • whether you like him or not, he got us talking, which i am pretty sure is the main goal of Ted "Talks"

  • Not enough "uh's".

This guy makes a living speaking for nations?

  • i pretty like his talk. After all, the independent diplomat is an alternative to solve problems that current forms of diplomacy usually fails to deal with. The idea itself might not seem that dazzling, yet to put it into reality, Mr. Ross definitely had to consule lots of people and organize many activities. His intention and success so far deserve our admiration. Besides, since the meetings he arranges aren't open to the media, i don't think people will get mad at what he said in TEDTalk.

  • This guy is SO FRIGGIN BORING. That's 2 Tedtalks in a row that I couldn't make it through, cmon guys

  • @InsideDating sugata mitra's ted talk was one of the best ever though

  • @InsideDating imma let you finish...

But Carne Ross had the best TED talk of all time.

    OF ALL TIME

  • for those reasons this guy resigned people become terrorists, some people will do anything for profit, pollute, kill, pay a war, pay dictatorships, and they have a lot of power, terrorism seems like the only way possible to set the things right. Of course if you are the tyran you will depict it as irrational aggression and don't recognize that they might have a reason.

  • nice !

  • Not the most articulated speech, but a fresh and interesting perspective.

  • Me becoming a diplomat was random... I had a childhood fascination with international relations, and the cold war.

    What?

  • Terrible speaking but an interesting subject. uh uh uh uh um um uh uh

  • I saw this third party setup towards the end of The Sopranos and was wondering why this didn't happen sooner.

  • 'just tear everything up and jump'. some of the worst advice you'll hear. and he's advising governments. scary.

  • @128pagenovella "tear up everything and jump" was advice on a purely personal level.

  • @TerhiTheFinn Haha. I must admit that I didn't think about the fact that I was complaining about complainers!

  • @thelaughingout

Um the organization is called tedTALKS as in a forum for Socratic dialog so yeah let the comments and conversations continue because it encourages good commentary and shapes the way we consider new material

  • dis guy looks like jjabrams

  • @ForCurrentUse contradiction, not oxymoron. jus sayin bro

  • NEWS FLASH: TEDtalks is not all about one thing. There is variety. If a subject doesn't interest you, that's okay. Don't watch it. Complaining about it is silly.

  • all diplomats are useless money grabbers who talk a lot and get nothing done!

  • He's like a real life John Hodgman ;)

  • WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW SLOW DOWN FAT MAN!!! Western Sahara was NEVER colonized by Morocco. There is no western sahara. It's all morocco.

Your goal (you bastard) is to divide the world into even smaller countries. DIVIDE TO CONQUER!! That's what you do, that's what you want!!!

    STOP SPREADING HATRED!!!

TED bring back scientific talks!! What's with all the garbage talks lately??/

  • @tkherbi9a A) you're plain wrong and b) you're wrong plus c) do you have a biased perspective, being from a Moroccan family?

  • Interesting how he describes those events in Kosovo in 2004.

Simultaneous anarchy in whole Kosovo? You need very good organization to damage and destroy 30 churches and monasteries in less than 48 hours all over Kosovo.

Only event comparable to it was Kristallnacht of 1938.

  • A very good talk.. i dont see why there are dislikes.

  • @abhi5a because 6 min in and he is still talking about worthless crap.

  • @morthim

the stuff he says leads up to his story... without that it would incomplete and not as interesting....

  • Very interesting talk.

  • Good luck on the Israel/Palestine issue.

The dream of Israel doing the right thing and moving back their borders seems more and more futile, and Palestinians doing the right of not sending missiles for a full year won't change a single comma on the Israeli side.

  • that was simply beautiful, someone who is actually trying to unite groups of people instead of pursuing the selfish interests of his own group and further dividing the world. kudos

  • Souther Sudan is going to be a new country in the next few years.

Thank you for that classified information?

  • What a jerk! Excuse my language.

The fact UN failing in it's duty doesn't make you a hero. I don't believe that there is a single reasonable person that interested in "independent" diplomat as their country representative.

Not everything is negotiable! Get it!

2007: "treat the terrorists by law", "(Gordon Brown), make a coalition with Iran" - Yep. You are a great specialist in Meddle East politics and mentality... Jerk!

  • @drive83 at least hes trying to solve the worlds problems, what are you doing to stop genocide?

  • I think that TED should in the future try to avoid inviting speakers who are clearly working as political lobbyists (or political mercenaries as I'd rather call them) and who are taking sides in territorial disputes and ethnic conflicts. It's not in line with the message of dialogue that TED otherwise promotes. This speaker and his onstage service ad for future clients clearly does not fit into any kind of dialogue and can rightly be seen as offensive by the peoples he's paid to lobby against...

  • @unapologeticmind His "onstage service ad" for his non-profit organisation, is no different from every other charity that TED allows on.

I'm sure it could be seen as offensive, but I don't think that actually excludes it from being a good talk. Controversial speakers can be invigorating. In any case he is talking about dialogue, and promoting dialogue in world affairs. If he represents a side then I suspect it's as much because they need help as if they are right/wrong. Views should be aired

  • @unapologeticmind Listen to yourself you brainwashed fool. He's a diplomat offering his services to naturally interested parties that get squeezed out by the big boys! What's wrong with that? He's goal are peace, and to which degree he's biased towards what, probably depends upon each situation. You clearly can't distinguish indivual british people, from whatever uniform british tribe you imagine in your stupid head. Peace out!

  • @unapologeticmind

Welcome to social evolution. If people don't like what their getting they will go get it somewhere else.

  • @unapologeticmind Why not just invite both sides? TED is a platform for people to get their views across. I don't mind it at all.

  • @unapologeticmind is he taking sides? i thought that the main objective of his organisation was to get direct dialog going between dissidents, affected residents and international bodies like the UN Security Council. and they're non-profit.

  • @unapologeticmind You can call Carne Ross a political mercenary if you like but that is missing the point. This is a man who has highlighted a huge problem within the structure of the UN. There are thousands of ethnic groups ,tribes, etc, whose future is being discussed but they may be represented by a government that may not understand or care what is going to happen to them. Surely you can understand how this is an significant problem that needs to be remedied...

  • @thewabbit10882 Let's first start by appointing UN officials according to the populations of respective countries...currently 60% of the UN office-bearers are US. That's why people hate the UN. How come people are concerned so much about minorities when the majory of the people aren't given a voice? Where the security council seat for India!? That's 1.1 billion people unrepresented!!!

  • @unapologeticmind This might not be interesting for you, but it is really interesting for me, and I can't see why something interesting shouldn't be allowed on TED. He's not promoting himself, he's bringing up a huge problem in the UN and in this world in general.

  • @unapologeticmind I don't understand why every people are criticizing him... He is bringing a great point: Some countries or Nations have no way to express themselves in the world because they don't have diplomat that can help them to express there view or, simply, to be hear... So those nation currently just remain silent. Did the small countries of Pacific had leverage during Copenhagen? No they just had to shut up while the rest of the countries didn't care about their interest.

  • @unapologeticmind I would perceive this as promoting dialouge. If he is taking sides on any issue it is that of a side that would not have otherwise been heard amidst the 'official political lobbyists' who work for big governments and promote such small voice-crushing generalisations as 'wars on terrorism'. Everyone has a 'side' in every territorial or ethnic conflict, even if that side is complete indifference from a world away. But indifference is uninformed and wouldn't make a good ted talk!

  • @timmit59 And I myself am often indifferent! But even from the viewpoint of 'this is a ad to attract the service of minority groups' (which I don't think it consiously is), I still think it has value. Everyone has the right to a voice, and for small states/groups that have no hope of communicating effectively through a foreign buerocratic system this would be a valuable service. The best people to solve a problem are often those closest to it, they should have the opportunity of representation

  • ...but anyway who can say no to a free drinking night out with a former night club bouncer turned professional killer and rapist (Ramush Haradinaj). He sounds like a really nice guy and I'm sure he and Carne Ross had a lot of fun together discussing their business with some liquor to spice things up...

And dootzky is indeed right, Kosovo is not even a UN member state and most UN states refuse to recognize it despite the hardline and controversial US/British promotion of its "independence"...

  • @unapologeticmind ...I understand why you say he is a mercenary. Maybe a better way for him to make a difference is for him to train diplomats within groups that have no experience, to introduce them to the right people and then for him to step back. Whether he is paid for this work is beside the point. Either way he is trying to provide a very valuable service.

  • @unapologeticmind

You just failed your listening comprehension test.

  • @khatack this is correct.

  • Outstanding talk! Someone from within needed to cut through the established BS and this man is very brave to have done so.

  • i felt i since of calm, satisfying resolute as Carne Rosse explained the condition of state governments and political systems. I have been thinking what he described so eloquently. It seems, I never took the leap towards what I had believed to be true :P Now it is time for the collective and each individual to own up to the roles as citizens of the twentieth first century. The Time for Globally Acknowledged Interdependence is NOW!

  • LOL, an "independent" British diplomat who just happens to be promoting British imperial interests in the Balkans, what a coincidence. This guy is a joke through and through, he's selling his services to whoever pays him well, all under the false guise of "ideals". It obviously didn't matter to him that his Kosovo Albanian "prime minister" drinking buddy is now in the Hague tribunal awaiting trial for murders and rape among other things, a really nasty guy but hey earning a living comes first...

  • I miss the reasonable, thoughtful, bright, scientific, creative TED Talks.

    Where did they go????

  • @racpembertondual i agree

  • @racpembertondual I know :s I do too

  • @racpembertondual

You didn't enjoy this particular TED talk?

  • @racpembertondual Then I think you should watch Tyler Cowen's talk called "Be suspicious of stories". Chances are you didn't find this talk very interesting because he wasn't telling a story, he was telling the truth.

Anyhow I find this very interesting.

  • Comment removed

  • You idiot, Kosovo is a part of Republic of Serbia, you can't declare it independent. That's like if you would declare TEXAS is independent country, outside of USA laws. Fucker.

  • @dootzky shut up ¬.¬

  • It's still pretty courageous to get oneself in the mix and attempt to affect positive change in world affairs. He seems well positioned to be able to pull some of the right strings.

  • Governments are less capable of affecting needed changes because they're less willing to do this, and more willing to intrude upon the citizenry in matters of privacy and prosperity. Looking to ourselves to do things is precisely what governments spend so much behind-the-scenes effort and tax money to avoid.

  • He blew himself out of the water at 4:44 when he notes he was the chief negotiator for the sanctioning of iraqi WMD's....like wtf dude....u were wrong! you werent independent, ur a brainwashed monkey following government orders.

  • @BrutusAlbion he never said he was....

  • @FreedomForMankind Douche.

  • "Independent Falling" diplomats are easy targets for international government puppet masters. Translation: Different refreshing labels for more of the same thing.

  • The cartoon at the end was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh, i liked the presentation to :) very interesting.

  • This is pretty interesting to watch. It's so obvious that this is a man who hasn't come to terms with the person he really is.

  • @TheFourthHatedMan very weird indeed

  • Great talk. TED needs more guy likes this to teach about world affairs.

  • Is he Christopher Walken's British cousin?

  • It just feels like he isn't honest. like he is hiding something.

  • @TheFourthHatedMan That's what I was thinking, pretty much

  • he seems to be having some kind of inferiority complex. Just saying.

  • I understand that speaking publicly can be very difficult without ums and ahs, it's a hard habit to remove. But he is driving me nuts, I wish he would stop.

  • @Jaikkanen agreed. really starts to get annoying after a while. but other than that, it was a ok speech :)
