This would be one of those times where I would shake my fist at my parents and demand to know why they didn't keep teaching me Cantonese. I only understand bits and pieces of this dang song. ;-;
It's in Cantonese. Believe me, my family speaks it on a daily basis and if it was in Mandarin it'd sound waaaayyyy smoother instead of choppy as it does here. And if it was Mandarin, sounds like "DAP" and "NGOH" wouldn't really be present.
It's not Mandarin, it's Cantonese. The Mandarin lyrics don't even SOUND like this. Go look up Wu Jian Dao on Ting Dong under Andy Lau's song lyrics, and then apply what you said to those lyrics. Accent or no accent, I'm pretty sure no one can screw up the two languages THAT badly.
That's me to. I used to speak fluent Canto, but when I started going to school I forgot most of it. I only know basic because they happened to teach my cousin only Canto and no English.
Same here. And I just finished my first semester of Chinese I (which is Mandarin), but I'm much more familiar with Cantonese. It's easier to pronounce in any case. XD
Your lucky you get to take classes. I was going to, but I found out that the classes already started so I couldn't go. I agree, Canto is so much easier to learn.
I managed to get in because it was the spring semester. I'm going to have problems with the fall semester sign-up because I need to get my concurrent enrollment form signed and turned in before fall semester starts. And it has to be signed by my high school counselor, so I'm screwed. XD; I'm sad that Canto is somewhat disappearing.
I can understand and speak it but my knowledge is limited to household conversation and some SLIGHT pissed talking from those rare moments where my family gets pissed off. There are classes for Canto here, but I'd have to take an hour (or more) long drive to the classes. xP
Even Eric Tsang is better then Jack Nicholson is this Movie, and as always the original is better that the adapted ,i think the American Version should change the title from The Departed become The Adapted :P, appreciated Martin Job which make HK movie more popular & even if i'm not wrong (correct me if i'm wrong)because of this movie Martin won his first 1st oscar usually he is only nominated,anyway seeing HK version makes me highlighted 2 best Actor at the moment Andy Lau and Tony Leung..
So we think that another HK movie is a better version of an American version....WHAT ELSE IS NEW!!! HK RULES FOREVER! But I do like the line from the Departed: "Maybe, Maybe not, Maybe Fck yourself." It sounds like something someone would say in Cantonese! LOL
So if you're looking for a heavy toned crime thriller, the infernal affairs. But if you're an action junkie and is looking for some entertainment with an all time great storyline, The Departed.
Where the HK version kept the action off screen and uses tension of "a bullet in the barrel instead of a bullet fired", Scorsese's Departed has action all through the film. While some might say that this is a bad adaptation to the original master piece of a script, as an action movie the departed is more entertaining. Its also some what art cult, to the extent of its work of the Boston culture.
HK's version is sooo much betta! Martin tried to cram it all in one movie and now he's goin' for a sequel which doesn't leave much to the imagination let alone a new plot and a new script. anything based off Infernal Affairs, I have high expectations for it and sadly, I prefer HK's version. [=
The HK version focuses on the plot and the situation of the characters, as a crime thriller it is one of the all time greats. But its not wrong to say that Scorsese has a whole different movie in mind. He took the same storyline and put it in an American gangster action movie.

No. My high school only offers Spanish, American Sign Language, and French. I have to take it at a nearby community college in the evenings.

This script is an all time classic! Its potentially explosive straight from the start with well crafted characters trapped in the situation.
