It bugs me how (usually north Americans) tend to "dis" male figure skaters. The guy is jumping and twisting has body 3-4 revs over a surface that can easily crack open his skull and KILL him. See any padding or helmet?

Male figure skaters, (and I know several), are tougher than any hockey player I've ever meet.

@123firefly321 i have great respect for him 2! but ther's a difference from skating alone and being attacked going around 50 km an hour slamming into boards. you need padding otherwise hockey players would die. figure skaters are not being pushed over! they are definitly in better shape than hockey players but in terms of endurance hockey players can regain strength extremely quickly.

Believe me, anyone who figure skates respects you...It is sad that male figure skating has gotten a bad rap...It has a lot to do with the "atistic" elements (or dance) involved in this sport. I'd love to see a new type of event, (along the lines of an X-sport), that took out the artistic components but left the technical. An event like this would appeal to a lot more men and to women (like myself) who are skaters but not dancers.
