  • What a coinkidink!!! This is my workflow going from my Nikon Coolpix P100 super-zoom. Yeah, Nikon uses the same container format as QuickTime but it really is easier and you save hours of suck dealing with rendering if you go from the AVC h264 codec to Apple Intermediate Codec. Soon this all won't matter: FC Pro X will be able to deal with ANYTHING in the timeline. No more transcoding! However, my poor little MacBook doesn't have the video card mojo for FCPX.

  • Review from Sanyo Xacti HD1000

    /watch?v=4FAUR6AcsHY

  • nice vid.. is it possible with this cam to upload 1080 hd on youtube ?

  • To the DanniShow

MPEG Streamclip is also available in a windows version. I have that as well to convert files for Sony Vegas Pro.

Follow the tutorial above but do it on the PC.

  • anybody know how to do this on Windows/PC?

  • Thank you for this tutorial!

My only problem is the size of the resulting .mov file, 5 times bigger than the original (in my case 130Mo -> 830Mo). Is that just normal or are there other settings to change?

  • I shouldn't have a problem with this process using a Xacti HD1010?

  • Thanks Bob. Your a life saver.

  • thank you so much for this. was very clear!

  • If you get a green screen, in Quicktime, when trying to view 1920x1080 (full HD) video, then you need an extra decoder component. i could give the URL, but apparently, YouTube silently filters out such postings - search for "avc1Decoder". Hint: go to Apple's main site, then click "Downloads" and enter "avc1Decoder" in the search field.

  • Thank you Bob Hudson!

  • This video is extremely helpful. Thanks for making it!

  • Thank you for this video. Not only am I strongly considering the Sanyo, but you taught me some tricks about MPEG Stream that i didn't know. Thanks!!!

  • I have the SanyoXACTIHD1000.

    the camcorder works real wall.

  • Bob, I own a HD1000 and I am now considering buying a Macbook, but I am not sure which with model/processor to choose - 2.0 Ghz or 2.4 Ghz. What are the specs of your Mac that you are using for the editing of the HD1000 clips?

  • Just got to think of another thing. How about the memory. Do you think 2 Gb will be enough for the editing or would you reconment 4 Gb?

    Thanks in advance. :-)

  • I have the dual 2.16 GB MacBook with 1GB of RAM: works great (but then when I started editing video on a Mac I had a 233mHZ processor and 64MB of RAM)>

  • If anyone knows a web site where they show how to modify the Sanyo hd1010, please let me know. I was thinking to remove the built in lense and have it replaced with a 1/4" or even 1/2" lense to have a wider angle of view. I have the feeling that Sanyo lense is cheap.

  • By the way, i just found out from various forum the reason behind the green screen issue.

The "full HD" 1080p options play back fine on the camera. However, FCP Express and iMovie HD can not import this high bit rate AVCH264. While importing, the clip shows up green and audio is present but no video. Lower resolutions (everything up to 1280x720) imports fine and looks spectacular on playback.

  • I am planning to purchase the Xacti and want to maintain the highest quality. Can i import and edit MPEG4 AVC/h264 file without conversion or do i have to turn them into a proxy file (such as apple intermediate ?).

I hear people complaining about green picture ? What's the story ?

I also checked sanyo web site and they recommend using a dual core2 mac. Will FCP 6 work with the Sanyo ?

    Thank you

  • I can see no loss using the Apple Intermediate Codec. I used to consult on DVD production and got to be fairly sensitive to compression losses. My first XACTI was standard 640x480 video and I bought it after taking some sample video, converting it to DV and then to MPEG2 for a DVD. The quality stayed very good all through the process: I think the the 7320P to AIC to DVD or whatever is even better.

  • Bob, I still have the green screen problem even downloaded the avc1Decoder. Any other advise?

  • Easy to follow and very informative presentation. Cheers

  • Bob, AWESOME workflow. Thank you very much!! For those with the GREEN screen problem, just download and install the free avc1Decoder from MyCometG3(Google for it).

  • Great tips, thanks very much.

Can I ask what program you are using on your Mac to record the screen videos you do?

    Thanks again.

  • I use Snapz Pro to record still and motion screen captures - great program!

  • hey bob i have some problems importing full-HD 1920x1080 off my Sanyo to my mac , the video is always solid green but has the sound? any ideas? no problems on any other settings, cheers mate

  • Bob/Vincent

I too are having nightmares trying to get the 1920 x 1080 into an editing program without GREEN screens?

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

    Julian - Sydney Australia

  • Great tip, thank you for sharing.

But I suppose that it means two basic things:

1.- iMovie can't read the files right from the camera

2.- the best quality is 720p

    ¿Am I right?

  • I think iMovie only reads DV files and some MP4 files, but with an Intel Mac, these XACTI files and my import method is the faster than importing from as tape=based camera. 720P is not the best quality but I think it is the best compromise between quality and storage space.

  • Thanks for posting--looks like great solution for Mac users!
