@Maximo20009 The injury was so damaging underneath that the skin was already detached underneath. This really didnt hurt at all. By the time I removed all of the damaged skin and meat I was down to the bone. I could see nothing but white. All the nerve endings were killed I guess.

An excellent testimonial on why you should always wear steel-toed boots when you work.

Depending on the severity of the damage, you can often relieve pressure from blood buildup underneath the nail by heating a needle red-hot and burning/melting a hole into the nail. Much easier than removing the whole nail and reduces the chance you'll end up with a in-grown toenail when things grow back.

I'm not a medical doctor though, so don't construe anything I've said as medical advice.

@Azaz0th yeah I think the real lesson learned was to be wearing steel toed boots. When it happened I just had a pair of new balance tennis shoes on. I thought about the hot needle idea but the thought of that seemed worse

lol Nasty. I had an old claw foot tub fall on my big toe years ago. The pressure was incredibly painful that night and I got no sleep. Next day, I took a very small, sharp screw and using my hand, slowly screwed it into the nail. When I finally broke through, there was a tiny stream of blood that went about a 1ft - 1.5ft into the there for a brief second. The relief was instant and complete. Later, the nail did finally come off with no pain and none of the drama in the vid above.

Come on people, not in 2010! Some times you cause hemorrhage when pulling the small vessels and rapture can occur, therefore, you need medical attention to stop the bleeding and have a laser ray insertion to stop the bleeding. Please don't do it yourself. It is the shortcut to gangrene and or loose a foot. Especially if you suffer of any health condition!
