@raindropgirl05 and Aylang I have a question for you. The boy is young, he may be 8 years old, but why is he chasing the girl? In the Peach Orchard Part 1, the first scene shows a young peach tree in blossom, and then the girl as a spirit or phantom appears in front of the tree and only he sees her. He's curious about her, I don't know why, do you? At the end of Part 2, at the moment he spots her in the orchard, the peach trees disappear? Is there not any symbolism at this point in the film?
Yes this is Gagaku which is Traditional Japanese music from the Heian Period of Japan which was originally from the Chinese and came to Japan during that time.
NO I THOUGHT THAT SHE GOT CURSED BY TYHE ASPEACHES N THEN THEY AND THEN THEY UHH UHHH OH YEAH THEY TURNED HER INTO A PEACH I SAW IT CUZX THEYRE GHOSTS! DUH!!! LOLOL (I'm mocking you. I think anyone with an I.Q. above 4 gets it.)
Sorry, I do not feed the trolls. But for future reference, when you are attempting to "mock" someone, you should do so by sarcastically adopting their tone of voice, not by producing something otherwise entirely unrelated to their previous statement. And if you have to inform someone that you are mocking them, then the sarcasm has failed. Cheers!
This is one of my favourite, too. For some reason, I think the boy is caught between his repect for the trees (nature) and the desire to be with the girl who attracts him (in a curious sensual way). As soon as he sees the girl, his respect for the trees is sidestepped. His appreciation for beauty can't stop at just the visual sense. His desire is driven by what the illusion of the girl represents. And so the beauty that is there (was there) disappears and is lost. That's my take.
@onepeaceableworld I don't think it's relating to his respect or not at all. They promised him just one more time would they blossom, and only for a moment. The spirits left with their respective trees, and only the young girl was left, who was unrelated to the trees because she is obviously younger and not involved in the dance.
I think that Kurosawa was saying something about the development of Man's relationship with nature. In Sunshine Through the Rain, the boy out of sheer curiosity innocently intrudes on the foxes wedding and incurs their wrath. In this episode, the boy is still innocent, yet he has a desire to possess nature and literally devour it. I think he realizes for the first time cost of loosing touch with nature (the freeze frame shot). He enjoyed the fruits of nature not realizing what the cost was,
In The Blizzard the boy is now grown up, and he is now in direct conflict with nature. Nature is an enemy that he must conquer. However, it is only the intervention of the female mountain spirit that he and his men have survived. It isn't entirely clear whether her intentions towards them were good or evil. Nature is beautiful but it can also be fatal. In The Tunnel another grown man confronts his own guilt in the ultimate affront to nature, war. The Crows brings us full circle.
The painter meets Vincent van Gogh inside one of his own paintings. Van Gogh has a child like nature even though he is an adult. He imparts the wisdom of getting back in nature to the younger man (from a later time, as well). I don't feel the remaining episodes are necessary because we've already gone through the cycle of innocence (youth) to experience (adulthood) to wisdom (second childhood). Fuji & Demons deal with war but very unsubtly. The Village crudely rehashes points made in Crows
Mh, finding more Gagaku (雅樂) should not be that difficult...finding more of the music in this clip impossible, since it is not a piece out of the traditional canon and I suppose was composed solely for the Movie...
Please, should somebody know where to find more of this music, please let me know, doesn't matter how long time might pass, please tell me. This is heian period, I love it, I've been looking for this kind of music everywhere, and there's only edo period...Yoroshiku onegaishimasu, arigatou gozaimasu!
i'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but i found out about this film from a comment on watch?v=bm8XpWidUac&feature=related ; it's called etenraku but i'm not sure if it's from the heian period though. hope that helps
the girl who was the spirit of that young peach tree is going to remain there, not as the rest of the "dolls" that have left because they felt offended.

No the other dolls I don't think remain offended. The father of the boy had cut down the trees to nubbs so I believe the spirits/dolls couldn't remain there any longer except for the little girl who was a sprouting version of young tree that they must have missed.
the prediction of nuclear in the movie is real, It actually happens, people have been warned but due to japanese's tsunami nothing helps much.

So the young girl was really the personified essence of the last remaining peach tree in the orchard manifesting in physical form. Beautiful concept.
