im an auditor for one of the biggest banks in the world and they pay is great (80-90k 6 years out of undergrad) and the work is interesting, very little number crunching actually.
I'm 35 and interested in going to college for accounting. Would an Associates degree help me get started somewhere? I am also working at a job completely different to buisness and am pursuing online vs classroom courses. Do companies accept online degrees as much as classroom degrees? Thank you!
@Code9aa idk - but i'm 20 and starting community college to like you also get an Associates degree in accounting... I honestly think a classroom one would do you better but that's just my point of view..lol
Umm... Okay yeah I wish they hadn't portrayed accounting like this. I'm an accountant. Not a CPA. We don't start out making $50,000/year. I have my bachelor's yes, but even after 10 years of working in accounting my salary isn't $50,000. It's MUCH less than that. I make apx $40,000/year and that is high. I'm seeing $10 and $12 part time jobs VERY regularly.
And it isn't easy to get your CPA. You need a Bachelor's PLUS 120-150 hours in accounting. That's alot.
Forget about accounting , The monetary system is no good for the Human race, join the Zeitgeist movement and support a Resource Based Economy. ...do something good with your lives.
@peterjol I know your good intentions and have watched both Zeitgeist films but there's one thing: economics IS based on resources, namely attempting to allocate resources most efficiently, by definition.
@nlitement watching the Zeitgeist films doesn't explain a Resource Based Economy ...you would have to listen to Peter Joseph's lectures and also look up all Jacques Fresco's material and read his book, 'The Best that money cant' buy' before you could have any understanding of a Resource Based Economy and why it is so essential for the future of us all.
fuck im majoring in accounting and approaching my third year in college.....its soo difficult n a lot to remember.....idk if im gonna make it ): but i really want to stick to it because im already pretty far in the course n took a lot of required courses for it already...ughhhhh
My aunt is a CPA and she makes a great living. Lexus, house in Rancho Cucamonga ,Californa, and she has time to be a great mother! I am happy that I have the opportunity to be one in the near future

@heartlessvietboy Yes after you get your bachelors degree then you enroll in graduate school for about 16 credit hours of accounting courses, then pass the cpa exam. Roughly 5 years of schooling
I don't think it was a scheme. Schools were where children learned behavior and ethics. They grow up to learn more things. In foreign poor countries they don't even go to school. They just play. There is no such thing as "Mathematics" or "Sciences". Some villages just learn regular contemporary language. Some were just day cares.
@VinceFSU07 In NC, I have to take 6 hrs of introductory acct classes, then 24 hrs of accounting concentration courses, and then an additional 20 hrs in grad school.
@tighttritenight do you have your bachelors in accounting? if not that would explain the 6 credit hours of undergrad accounting courses. I could be wrong about the 16 grad credit hours it could be 20, but someone was telling me that the cpa exam takes almost a year now to finnish. I know someone who is a CFO he said he got his certification in 2 days. If you have any info on the cpa exam it would be much appreciated, if not i'm sure i'll find it out myself.
@VinceFSU07 The actual exam is 14 hours. The requirements to take the exam differ from state to state, but most require at least a bachelors and a minimum of 150 credit hours. Getting an MSA (Masters of Science in Accounting) will meet all of these requirements. I'm working on my bachelors right now. I don't know if I'm going to become a CPA or not. I actually prefer managerial accounting.
@VinceFSU07 My bachelors degree, however, requires 6 hours of introductory accounting (Financial & Managerial. All college of business students must take these) and then 24 hours of accounting concentration courses. That is the requirements for my university's college of business. I'm sure it differs among universities.
@supremo502 only a bookkeeper, witch makes a preety low salary. If you want to be a real financial accoutant get a four year degree. Im going to a 2 year community college first because my grades in high school were preety bad, and then im transfering and its cheaper!
@supremo502 you can actually become an accountant or bookkeeper, but not a 'certified accountant'. Certified accountants make much more but there are still plenty of jobs available for you if you choose to take a 2 your accounting course.
Accounting is a solid career I think, It may seem boring but I am gonna take an applied degree with a designation in it. The pay could be better but work experience will pay off in the long run. I will be done by the time I am 22 an work for the rest of my life anyways, Accounting hear I come!
Too good to be true.

I wonder how many people ran to their closest University website and researched their Accounting degree after hearing that it only takes a BS.
