I have a question. When do you go to the 4th fret of the low E? You go from an A to a D to a G and then are you suppose to finish the whole strummin cycle of DDD DU UD DD. So is it that last D stroke that you go to the low E? hope someone can help thanks
So I watched some videos of Jack Johnson and his back-up guitar guy playing this live. When he plays it live it is indeed 1 step up from the record so it become:
A->G (barre)
G-> F (barre)
D-> C (with some strums on F too)
E-> D
The intro guitar lick starts on the D string at the 9th fret (on the record it starts on the 11th) and is played while he hits the other strings which are muted.
Marty’s version matches the recording of the song which is obvious when playing along.
@sraleig I think a majority of us came here to learn a song and have fun playing it. Why does music have to be such a picky thing for people like you. Music is about chilling out and having fun not about playing every single exact note perfectly. Id even bet that Jack Johnson doesn't give two shits about how people play he's song, just as long as there having fun doing it.
How you could screw something so simple up is beyond me.. do your homework... WRONG CHORDS there buddy... If your going to try and teach someone to play that song- teach them the right way.. Why not trying watching Jack Johnson himself play the song.. maybe then YOU would learn something
Just checked out a few vids of Jack Johnson playing live and it looks to me like the main chords are G-F-C-F. Check it out for yourself if you are unsure.
Yo Marty, great cover. Any reason you chose to play the opening with single notes rather than chords like Jack does? I'm a beginner (one month in) so this cover is good picking practice :) Thanks, keep up the great work!
Hey thanks for this because loads of jack johnson songs are really hard! i was just wondering how do you play the last bit ''hope that time will take our lines away'' is it the same as the verse?
Pretty Cool lesson here, Covers the topic quite well. Ive just made a bunch of detailed courses for beginners and advanced guitarists that you might be interested in. Check it out! would love to know what you and anyone watching this video thinks. Its totally free, and i mean TOTALLY
Oh man, you make me learn every song 1000-times faster! Thanks so much, I dont know why I pay 20$ to my guitar instructor for a half hour if I van just learn it from you. So please keep doing what you are doing!
Great lesson! I don't have a great talent in music and it makes especialy strumming patterns hard to figure and that is where you make yourself stand above the others for me. One thing i noticed in this video that you didnt metion. On the Double pattern played for the D chord you do an upstroke after finishing the pattern once and it sets you up for doing it again instead of playing the 7 downstrokes. If i'm wrong let me know. people reading this, try and see how it sounds for you.
You show us how it should sound. How to basicly play (the chords), and how to play it short. Not many of the persons in the youtube lessons do alle those things which is why it is difficult to follow. You make it as easly as possible. Thank you very much! :)

from your grammar i'm guessing you're not american?
Jsalcedo23 1 year ago
@Jsalcedo23
Well if you're gonna call someone on their grammar I might as well join the party...
1) Sentences start with a capital.
2) No ending punctuation on the first sentence.
3) There is a k in know.
4) The I in I'm is capitalized.
5) American is capitalized.
6) "I'm guessing you're not from American" doesn't make sense.
I'm done trolling for now though so this grammar session is over.
P.S. Marty you are a great teacher. Keep doing your thing man!
