Ps, the other week I had a week long school trip in Germany. We drove through Holland/Netherlands on the way to Germany. Enjoyed the 2 hours in Holland/Netherlands more than the 5 days in Germany!

@TheCanada619 Nope. We were liberated by the First Canadian Army. The Americans only played a role around Eindhoven, Maastricht, Grave and Nijmegen. (which is ALL in the south) The rest was mainly done by the Canadians, the British and the Poles.

@urban7rat Well...this anthem is about Willem van Oranje-Nassau, a german, our father of our nation. He is the first person narrator of the anthem. So "I am Willem of Nassau and I am of German blood." He led the battle against our oppressor, the king of Spain. He said that it is your right to stand up against your King when he is not loyal to his people. The german blood issue is not about the dutch but about Willem van Oranje. We are just dutch or "Nederlands" how we call it.

The emperor Charles V was a Roman Catholic but Willems parents were Lutheran and Charles wanted Willem raised as a Catholic.
