the day this lady stopped flying was a sad day for the world, more educated people can explain why the commercials wudnt buy her, i see it as a reminder of britain and france losing there belief
This video makes me sad that they could just retire a great jet.. But i also agree with scrapping it as we all need to have something great to remember for our country, if concord would of gotten older in BA and AF people wouldnt have seen is as the symbolic aircraft it is nowadays ..

Fucking amazing plane. Why did they get rid of it? They each had life in their airframes left. Amazing british achievement to produce a supersonic airliner.... so retarded its no more. No shuttle, no concorde, we are going backwards as a planet, it doesn't make sense. Make a "concorde to the sky" campaign and raise the £15-£30 million needed to raise her again.
concorde is such a beautifull majestic plane i had the great privilage of being at the end of runway at heathrow at seeing this amazing plane take off over my head made the hairs stand up and goosebumps, want her back :( surely with todays technology they can make another be a cake walk.
Forget the royal family....forget the history. Concorde was the only thing to make me proud to be British! And nothing else has come close to her since.
(con't) My grandfather, who was a travel agent and had buddies in the airlines, was able to arrange a quick visit inside the Concorde by the fine people at British Airways. This was back before our era of paranoia, when you could freely stand around JFK and take photos without fear of harassment, and go straight to the gate without a ticket. I must have been no older than 10, and I got to sit in the Concorde's cabin. An experience I will never forget. Wish I could've flown in it, of course. =)
I have a quick story I hope you'll enjoy. I grew up (and currently still am) not to far from JFK, about a 15 minute drive in VS. As a small child, when we were out to dinner at a diner I used to draw the Concorde on my paper placemat, begging to see if we could go down to the water to see it. Sometimes we got to, and it was always the highlight to my day. Then, one of the coolest things ever for a child happened.
@anomalousclouds That was a cool story. Have you gone to see Alpha Delta at the Intrepid museum? I used to live under the approach to heathrow airport and i always enjoyed sitting in my back garden watching her come down to land. She would be so low that you could make out the detail on her underside. I used to keep track of her on my radio scanner so i'd know exactly when to go out as long as she was landing on the right runway. I live near one now and she looks sad now she's grounded
How ironic is the praise the crowd gave this plane, considering how many New Yorkers (I didn't say ALL) tried to stop Concorde from ever coming to the Big Apple in the '70s. Their lawsuit went to the Supreme Court. Maybe these people are cheering because it's finally gone....Just joking!
It makes me sad thinking that I never got to fly on this plane. It is comforting however, having heard and felt the absolute raw power it produced during takeoff, followed by the numerous car alarms it set off. I still remember watching it with absolute awe as a little kid, fingers against the fence parallel to the runway at heathrow. I also believe that is why my hearing isn't upto scratch nowadays!
I remember tht great day in April 1969 sat on my dads shoulders waiting for that take off from filton in the cold. Well worth the freezing wait as those olmpus engines roared i tingled alover and became very warm fast Fantastic...
i remember the day i saw the 1st concorde to land in liverpool airport, its sad to see it go, however if everyone gave a bit of money to the SCG we can get atleast 1 concorde back in the skies.
Best Concorde video ever! I was in tears! R.I.P Concorde and God's speed, you will be missed! Going to the Air and Space Museum in DC in June can't wait to see the Concorde!

For the very first time i have to say: the music match perfectly with the video and of course, with the moment! Its a sad moment but was very beautiful.
SpeedBird Concorde one your cleared for take off, two seven left, surface winds at two, forty at ten....... Speedbird Concorde One, Ccleared for take off, two.....seven... left
For me as an motorvehicle engineer, concorde gets way more credit than A380. She should be back in service, should never be retired. Concorde flew for 27 years without any accident. Building a supersonic airliner requires way more professionalism than a subsonic liner. Hats of to the engineers who made it possible.
On a winters afternoon Concordes flight from LHR to JFK would set off after sunset in the UK but because of her supersonicness she would "catch" the rising sun, a sun rising from the WEST. Now that is cool!
Just because of a CRASH.... they Retired her? That doesn't make sense. If they can fly the worlds biggest passenger Airline (A 380 Airbus), Why can't they keep flying the Concorde?
Concorde wasn't efficient. Their runningcosts were simply too high. But many of us, including myself, feel depressed seeing this perfect exemple of glorious engineering of the past.
They did'nt just retire her about a crash, They were going to keep her in service until 2012 but due to running, servicing costs and 9/11 and the crash they decided to retiire her. I think thats right.
I remember in the 80's I used to sit at the top of my apartment on the roof and watch planes take-off and land around me. Then I saw the Concorde, and I was amazed to see the beautiful bird fly. I miss her...!
This video bring some water in my eyes. What an emotional part of history we cen see here. The controllers from JFK are emotional as well. Thanks for beeing there and show us the last flight from KJFK.
If wayching Concorde fly didn't turn you, then there was something wrong with your switch.
The most beautiful aeroplane ever built and if it hadn't been for the rank jealousy of the Americans it would have been made better and better and would still now be flying round the world.
I saw Concorde as a schoolboy at the Farnborough Air Show and it was so beautiful grown men had tears in their eyes after it had gone. Will they be as sad when the last 747 takes off?
Unbelievably sad outcome for the most beautiful bird to grace our skies. Having them as museum pieces is no better than caging a wild animal. Jeremy Clarkson got it absolutely right in saying the loss of Concorde was the biggest step backwards in aviation history. Exhilaration has been replaced with monotony.
I realy had to fight against my tears. This is such a great aircraft ! A beauty, a swan with grace. I miss her, Even though I could never afford a ticket. Good bye my love !
I worked at JFK from 99 to 2002 and it was always a thrill to watch the Concorde take off from over the customs parking lot. Everyone stopped what there were doing once those jets were fired up at the beginning of the takeoff.
Long live the Concorde, it was quite a special bird in the sky, you actually felt the vibration in your chest, great feeling.
Speed Bird 2, What a name for the best flying machine mankind built and then de-commissioned. Shame on people who caused its demise from commercial aviation.
Its such an eye watering conversation between the pilot and ATC
What a video. It brought tears to my eyes. I never saw one on real life ;( I guess, Concorde was greater than the sum of its parts. And trust me on this one, is to say something.
I'll watch this till my dying day. I love art, and I can tell you that there is no work of art greater than that transcendental machine. And its form came purely from functional imperatives. I think it is the most beautiful physical object ever created, maybe ever will be created. I can't watch this without crying every single time. If that doesn't prove that it was more, much much more, than just a machine, nothing does.
the radio conversation says it all for me this is how Americans and Brits should get on, not slagging each other of over you tube i bloody love you yanks lol group hug
In fact British Airways was making profit, it was the French who were'nt, they made the decision to retire the fleet, and of course with the plane manufactured from french and british parts they would be no longer able to maintain them, Have been on tour of corncorde at manchester airport, such a beautiful piece of engineering we have definately taken a step back and that A380 it a total monstrosity if thats the future, god help us.
@2009theknight exactly right, the reason the french didn't make any profits was because BA adjusted their prices to suit what people actually thought they where when they were actually alot cheaper, once they did that they started turning a profit, in her whole time with BA she turned over .75 billion profit for them.
Amazing story that the ATC that issued the 1st landing clearance into JFK in 1977 would issue the last takeoff clearance from JFK in 2003. Incredible! Aviation is the only field where mankind has taken giant steps backwards. To retire the greatest invention after the space shuttle really puts mankind heading in the wrong direction when it comes to Air Travel. I love my 777 but it's no Concorde!
I agree. We should have sealed up the windows, put in new avionics, put on bigger engines, painted her all gray and converted her to a bomber for the RAF. She was not designed for the role but she may have had a new lease on life.
i dont think anybody on here realizes how much money and maintenance those jet required and thus is why they got rid of them...sure it's a shame but ya gotta do what ya gotta do and the mistake was building them in the first place...a waste of british airways and air france's time
@cliffthelightning You could be right, I find that really sad though, the Tupolev's safety compared to the Concorde is absolutely disgusting. Not to mention the infamous airshow crash, where the thing literally broke apart in front of everyone!
@cliffthelightning I beliece that if they restore her, most of the concordes have been kept in very good condition so theres a good chance with the right funding that she could fly again, the TU-144 though, never, she's not safe, just look at how many major failures it had and crashes. the tu-144's were deemed unsafe for flight.
well, there is some hope, though not commercially. there is a group who is currently been receiving donations over the last 5 years(i have to check that over) but what they have been doing is restoring a Concorde to the point that it will be able to taxi under its own power :D hopefully from that small step, it will be able to leap back into the air once the program gets going. but i have to stress that i hard this only from one source so far so i have to find it on more sources to confirm it :)
i felt sorry for all Americans who watched the final Departure from JFK...i know i would of hated seing an amazing Plane take off for the very last time (In that country)....fast ending of concorde in USA i guess :(
the day this lady stopped flying was a sad day for the world, more educated people can explain why the commercials wudnt buy her, i see it as a reminder of britain and france losing there belief

2009theknight 1 year ago

@Tampaslice Retiring the Space Shuttle too now. What's left?

all-time favorite concorde video, beautifully put together. Love the music.

Back in " the days " people did care less about money and more about setting goals are a dream. I wish we could do that again.

concorde will never return its 'airworthy certificate has been suspended , altough the tupolev tu-144 may return at some time
cliffthelightning 1 year ago
@cliffthelightning You could be right, I find that really sad though, the Tupolev's safety compared to the Concorde is absolutely disgusting. Not to mention the infamous airshow crash, where the thing literally broke apart in front of everyone!
jlebesis 1 year ago
@jlebesis Didn't the..ahem..French..have something to do with that? Vehemently denied of course...
edj66 1 year ago
@cliffthelightning I beliece that if they restore her, most of the concordes have been kept in very good condition so theres a good chance with the right funding that she could fly again, the TU-144 though, never, she's not safe, just look at how many major failures it had and crashes. the tu-144's were deemed unsafe for flight.

It wasn't the same anymore, since they put this bird in the museum way to early. One giant step back in time for mankind.

wotmeworry333 1 year ago
well, there is some hope, though not commercially. there is a group who is currently been receiving donations over the last 5 years(i have to check that over) but what they have been doing is restoring a Concorde to the point that it will be able to taxi under its own power :D hopefully from that small step, it will be able to leap back into the air once the program gets going. but i have to stress that i hard this only from one source so far so i have to find it on more sources to confirm it :)
