I'm a young designer and graffiti artist, I know there's a million out there but I feel like my art has a unique individual style.
If you just take a minute and give me a chance I'll make you a believer. I would love nothing more than to have a loyal following on YouTube & Twitter. If anyone who reads this could press the "THUMBS UP" others will see it. Just a simple button push will make a huge difference.
I listen to this song and think about the man I'm not over and also of my favourite brother, who died this past November 20th. It's a good song about the process of moving on and trying to engage with the world when you're still grieving.
This song makes my all time favorite list. But I honestly thought that the other person singing the song with George Michael was a female, because of the lyrics and the voice. Until I saw the video. Still a nice song though.
rap will be dead soon - lovers will want true love music like this - gangster shit is a fad like so much other bad music - the good music will return - remember disco was suppose to last forever - lol

@shelia926 The point is, you were OVERLY idolizing a decade that, in your own words, is no different than today. I can't lighten up because I have a point to make, and that is the 80's was not this utopia that Youtube commenters like to purport. It just wasn't.
@knmlover Well, don't take my word for it, research it yourself. And yes, I was there. I lived on Irving St, In Washington D.C. from 83 to 88 and attended Woodrow Wilson High School. Graduated class of 88. Joe Gibbs was the Coach of the Wash. Redskins. John Riggins was the All-pro RB. Marion Barry was Mayor and Ronald Reagan was President. I could go on but like I said, if it was good to you then congrats. However, for a lot of poor and minorities, the 80's sucked ass.
@simmad0wnn0w I think a lot of us like to romanticize the 80s because we were young and didn't have a care in the world. It was a time of carefree youth for a lot of us, and though times were just as hard as any, it's good to look back on those years and reminisce.
The 80's had good music, but it was not this idealize time that people on Youtube would have you believe. Wiki crack epidemic, homelessness, AIDS, S&L crisis, cocaine use, contra hearings, gangsta rap, gang violence, list of recessions. The 80's and early 90's should come up quite often while reading the articles. Don't take my word for it, find out for yourselves.
IMHO the 80's actually sucked but the music was outstanding.
@simmad0wnn0w SPOKEN LIKE A TRUE IDIOT WHO WAS JUST BEING "BORN" IN OR AFTER THE 80s. I LIVED IT. I WAS THERE. NOTHING IS PERFECT. BUT, I CERTAINLY WOULD TRADE THIS JUNK SO-CALLED 21ST CENTURY NEW MILLENNIUM NONSENSE TO HAVE THE 80s and 90s BACK! TODAY SUCKS!!!! AND, THAT'S ON EVERYTHING! I KNOW.

Wow. I agree with everyone here, this song can stay up to anything out now. And I remember my girlfriend broke up with me a few days before this song came out. Like us 80s kids did with all breakup songs, I would play this groove and think about her. The 80s were awesome. We had tons of great artist...who could actually play and sing!!!
I remember making a video slideshow with collections of my now ex-lover's pictures having this song playing in the background, with heartfelt messages expressing how he meant so much to me and a very special place i reserved for him in my heart. Somehow things eventually ended exactly what this song means.... Dealing painfully with the breakup, unable to let go and move on.
I simply love the song, love Deon & George was in high school in the 80's best time ever!. This song Heaven help Me was recorded over & over on a casette called the Heaven help me tape I played it constantly since I have gotten to know Deon pretty good, great man!

@shelia926 Dear Sheila...I feel the same way about this song..."class of 1990" our group is very close and stable; not like today where kids are texting bad things, bullies etc....yes...I remember cruising the strip with my polka dots and nissan sentra w/alpine stereos and 12 inch speakers behind making out to "Can you stand the rain"....LOL
@shelia926 You are either being disingenuous or blindingly nostalgic.
I was in high school during the 80's. There was a crack epidemic at that time. Homelessness was at an all time high. Cocaine and crack use was at all time highs. S&L crisis had this country in a depression/recession.
Maybe you were younger and sheltered from what was really going on in America. Yes, music during that time was great. However, NWA was popular from 1986 to 1991. The time-frame you referenced in your comment.
I LOVE this song. So sensitive, especially, with George Michael on backing on vocals. Thought it was actually him when it first came out. I can definitely tell how intimate that influential connection was. Great pair.
George is such a big part of this song's vocals - I wonder why he and Deon didn't get equal mentioning on the label. If they did get equal mentioning - I don't recall that.
beautiful song.. i was a kiddie when it came about, but an awsome song. I wish we could go back to making music. maybe everyone would not be so mad! I am searching for a song if anybody notices the lyric.. it is a man: the chorus, im a man in this world and i deserve a loving girl, cant you see why dont you please notice me? .. another part cause i have been watching you, ooohhh girl ive been watching you... then it goes to this chorus again. it is an 80's song. If anyone can help please!!!
i was a kid i was around 6 or 7 I loved to jam to this on the radio... I love the last part of the song!!! where has the music gone when I could jam on the radio I cant do that no more I have to jam to my cd's RADIO SUCKS!!!
The first time i actually read the lyrics, I realized how much great of a great and beautiful song it is. Song typifies the need to keep on going and to move one. A true classic
Funny when you remember a song from way back but don't know any info. This song triggers so many memories, both good and sad. I'm glad I at least remembered enough lyrics to find it. Beautiful, heartbreaking song. Life has come full circle already.
@ChrisDom71 I feel EXACTLY the same way. It takes me right back to the senior year of high school -- with all of its plusses and minuses. I heard it on the 80s channel today and came online to find it. Good times.
Heard this 15 years ago and ever since then, I could never get it out of my head. Whenever I hear this on the radio today, it takes me back to those innocent pre-teen days.
Although Deon's vocals are fabulous, imagine this being George lead vocals version? Could of been amazing on Faith. I wonder if there's a version with his vocals in the archives somewhere.
Of all places to hear a song for the first time, I heard this one on the headphones while getting an MRI. Hearing that song was the best part about that MRI experience. This song made me feel good in a way only a well conceived song could. Quality it seems, never dies.
I finally heard this song purely by accident on the Sunday radio this morning.....OMG so long since I've heard it and I've tried over and over to remember something that would help me find it.....I cried it's so beautiful.....
OK, that intro (bass hrmnics, the trmpet, those chords on the kys, acoustic gtr or that insanely loud rim shot-- just b4 1st verse)? Whispered vocals? The drm prgming? The vocal arrangmnt (how he phrased and sang "oh, such a waste of time...")? 4 a pop song, there is more groove in this track than 88% of stufff in the past 20 yrs Grt lyrics, too!
Been looking for this song for awhile now. Had it on a cassette tape from back in the day, but of course most if not all tapes are gone. Glad to be reunited with this song.
I heard this song as a child and have loved it ever since. I never knew who sang it until today, just remembered the chorus and typed it in the search field. Songs nowadays just don't groove like they used to.
love this - and love the comments - I feel the same way - awesome song with such talented musicians involved - I'll never get sick of hearing George Michael on anything and I would have loved to hear more from Deon Estus too - take good care everyone and thank you for posting this :) !!
I don't know why but this song popped into my head tonight and, thank God for youtube, here it is. I've been longing for my teen years lately and I was 16 when this came out. I think maybe subconsciously I'm just sad that the times we live in seem so nihilistic and dark compared to what it was then. The 80's weren't perfect but at least the music was pretty and the attitude was optimistic. Everything is so plastic, forced, and fake now.
@Cranberry333 You hit the nail on the head honey!!! That warm breezy grown and sexy, sipping champagne on the patio or veranda with your beau under a full moon
Met Deon at George's C2C show in Philly on 10/29/91. Very nice guy! I think he was impressed that I was actually talking to him about his record...and then, about his bass solo in the long version of I'M YOUR MAN!
@Shaliecia1980 I am becoming a bigger fan of satellite radio, as radio becomes more dull and repetitive. Although I will always think I am the best DJ :-) The 80s were great and to be a kid during those times was so fun. We need to bring that back in this day in age. We are long overdue. The 2000s were just some uninspired times, especially the later half of the decade. And it still continues into this new decade with this current music.
ughhhh. was hoping to find this on Itunes.. no luck.. I love this song

ChrisDom71 1 year ago 3
@ChrisDom71 I feel EXACTLY the same way. It takes me right back to the senior year of high school -- with all of its plusses and minuses. I heard it on the 80s channel today and came online to find it. Good times.

I agree with a lot of these comments...such a soothing song to my ears from back then to now

Must be a great feeling 2 have George Michael doing ur backgroundz...huh?!!!
w3345 1 year ago
@w3345 Well, Deon played back up for George as Bass player in the group WHAM ! in the 80's. One good turn deserves another...This is a good thing !

Heard this 15 years ago and ever since then, I could never get it out of my head. Whenever I hear this on the radio today, it takes me back to those innocent pre-teen days.

great song. you can easily tell that this was a george michael produced track.
the production of the track is very similar to george michaels faith album

George Michael's smooth voice in the background! ah yeah!

This song was like a ballad of saying goodbye to the 80's kinda sad and appropriate.
SSGT1968 1 year ago 2
@SSGT1968 Yeah, it is - '80s were the best of times and I miss those young, free, & innocent days of just being a kid when life was simpler
dreamweaversable 1 year ago 4
@dreamweaversable It really wasn't simpler, it just seems that way because we're older and less naive about how the world works.

They don't make music like this anymore.

This is a rare music that connects your soul and nature.
despotcustodio 1 year ago
OK, that intro (bass hrmnics, the trmpet, those chords on the kys, acoustic gtr or that insanely loud rim shot-- just b4 1st verse)? Whispered vocals? The drm prgming? The vocal arrangmnt (how he phrased and sang "oh, such a waste of time...")? 4 a pop song, there is more groove in this track than 88% of stufff in the past 20 yrs Grt lyrics, too!

I heard this song as a child and have loved it ever since. I never knew who sang it until today, just remembered the chorus and typed it in the search field. Songs nowadays just don't groove like they used to.

I LOVE that breezy, sunset, cruising-by-the-ocean sound of slow tempo songs from the late 80's early 1990's.
